  1. :001_smile:classic hand tools do the whole range of Granfor axes, however Axminster power tools are selling Wetterings, thse come with a large poll. if you can wait and get down to the festival of the tree at westonbirt(august bank hol) classic hand tools have a big marquee full of goodies at show rates.

  3. if the land is fenced (stock proof) then find a pig farmer and let him put some pigs in there. pigs are the best demolition workers going and you dont have to do anything.
  4. i bet they make it an olympic sport soon, that wil be something to watch, better than watching england play football

  6. i did an advanced first aid course in 1977 when i was in the army and have kept up to date ever since. one of the first thngs they taught was, LOOK, LISTEN, THINK, ACT. look around the accident site, listen to what anyone who saw the incident says, think about what you are going to do, then act on it. this gives you time to gather information and prepare yourself. It has helped me on several occations. hope this helps you.
  7. buckthorn thorns are much longer, theres a whole load of it on the hill behind my house. dont mess with it.
  8. brill, and very rustic i like it:thumbup:
  9. Hi Dave, a hot air balloon can in theory land anywhere however there are areas marked on the pilots maps that are no landing or fee charged, height restiction etc. 99% of farmers are brill, and very helpful when it comes to letting us recover the balloon, some want a fee or a donation to a charity but all in all round here there are good relations with all land owners. a few weeks ago one of our balloons was going to be charged £100 by the land owner. i knew the owner and went up to see her on sunday and we now have exclusive rights to land on her land. being nice and polite to people costs nothing. as i have been doing this for 12 years i could tell you some real horror stories. this area is great to fly from so come on down.
  10. great photos, i have been launching and recovering hot air balloons for the last 12 years. the only photos i have seen that were better were ones taken at the balloon fiesta last year but they were taken by a pro photographer from one of our balloons. we fly from bath, bristol, westonbirt, usk, staverton airport(cheltenham) and north wooton near wells. contact ballooning network for more info and prices. we flew from westonbirt last night and could have filled the basket of 16 twice. sorry guys but couldnt miss out on the free publicity:001_smile:
  11. my eldest son is really clued up when it comes to cams and lenses if you pm your mobile i will get him to call you and give you some serious info:001_smile:
  12. just a thought, use wet room flooring, just google for it then find a supplier.
  13. brill, i milled some of the Red woods that ere taken down in Ashton Court Bristol. one was just over 8ft dia:thumbup:
  14. ho hum! ok i have read all the blurb, i have got a big milling job coming up in the next week or so. could you please pm me the cost in total for 20ltrs and i will give it a go:001_smile:
  15. found this, findersia australis (crows ash) or australian teak. think you will find that crows wood is ash. this being he most versitile of woods in the uk. i wilcheck with a friend of mine in the morning. if there is such a tree then he will know of it.
  16. i find the best way of coming out of the end is to bring the far end of the bar through to half way, then pull it back then push the drive end round to meet the cut. that way you will always keep two rails on the wood. KISS:thumbup:
  17. no upper body protection needed. checked with a really clued up bloke who has done just about everything. he actually said that as a "chainsaw mill" was powered by a chainsaw you had to wear the pants. if the chain breaks in the cut it is going away from you and will generally get trapped in the cut. i use "c" pants so all protection at the front to protect my two fruit and veg. might even think about getting a box.ha ha!
  18. did some checking up today, you should wear chainsaw trousers and boots. skid lid not ness, common sense says to wear eye protection and muffs. when they bring out some really good anti vibe gloves then i will get some. even in hot weather you should protect your neck from sunburn.(heat stroke) remember dont work when your tired, you cannot come back the next day to finish if your in hospital.
  19. hi Rob, did that job in solihul, piece of cake, then on thursday the boss rang me and wanted me to go on site in Newcastle under Lyne. i went up there and the job was done and dusted in 45 mins. you might say it was a long way to go but at what they were going to pay it was worth it. the building is going to be fantastic when it is finished and i am glad i did my bit. more power to the Alaskan Mill. i will get the photos up as soon as i have time. Bob:thumbup:
  20. i use either tung, teak or linseed oil but do not use danish its no good for out side. pay attention to the end grain. leave on for 15 20 mins then wipe off excess. then burn the rags do not put them in the bin they could self combust. repeat 48 hours later.
  21. i use normal protection but i also use chipper muffs, my reason for this is you are closer for longer to the drive head and sometimes i put in ear plugs. as for tripping over as you come out of the cut simple answer is switch the thing off once you clear. that way if you are using a big bar 50" 60" you can move round to the front and lift the whole mill out and away. eye protection is a must but i dont use a skid lid. you can buya head band and visor fron b&q. i sometimes use a mask mainly for the fumes if you are cutting low down.
  22. I got one of the first ones in the country @ the festival of the tree @ westonbirt. brill bit of kit. either brush it out with a wire brush or burn off the shavings with a braising torch. if you get to westonbirt this year (August bank holiday 27th to 30th) Classic hand tools have a big marquee full of goodies. my holy G cost me £45 last year but there were only two in the country at the time.
