  1. I was there but I must have been enjoying my free milk too much too notice
  2. Have to agree there, I think they just sit at the back of your mind subconciously niggling away and just add to other stresses, so from now on I reckon if I get a spare couple of hours its off to the wood or something similar
  3. I'm not defending her, what I'm saying is she had the balls to do what she thought was right, same as Churchill did, unlike any politician we've had since who can talk us all dizzy and still end up doing nothing
  4. Mate I'm from the farming community, so don't speak to me about life experience, losses, suicide etc, farmers have had it as bad as the miners got it but for alot longer, I know people who have lost thier entire lifes work through foot and mouth or TB, farming has the highest suicide rate of any industry in hte UK, mining is not the only industry thats been affected by government, so have our fishing, steel and car building industries
  5. Well I got caught out yesterday, was fine when I got up and when got to yard, knew was running bit later than i wanted to be and just ended up being one of those times where suddenly one thing after another holds you up, to the point that while loading the trailer I had a really bad anxiety/panic attack, had mild ones before but this one came on sudden, splitting headache, chest pain, stomach going the lot, calmed down again after about 5-10 minutes but felt rough the rest of the day, no idea why it kicked off, guess things have been building up recently again, so after had done the job I had to do this morn, filled the saw up, turned the phone off and went down the wood for a couple of hours thinning my xmas trees which has been needing doing for at least 3 years, seems to have done the trick feeling alot better tonight
  6. The fact that we're all taking time out of our lives to discuss her means that she did her job, yes she was controversial and unpopular, but you can't make an omlette without breaking eggs and you can't please all the people all the time, with reagrd to those still moaning that they are/were caused to be unemployed due to what she did all I can say is, if you really wanted work you can find it, it may not be what you want to do, but theres always a job if you want one, the improvements to the benefit system were what caused the problem and its easy to sit on your backside, wialing and nashing and blaming your life on someone else, whilst you have your hand out taking money off the backs of those who are working
  7. Nothing wrong with running some scrap, as has been said at the minutes needs must, as an aside its more regulated now, you have to produce photo id at the weigh bridge and if they have'nt yet they are changing to cheque only payments at scrapyards, I usually run in a few loads a year due to accumulated scrap taken out on fencing jobs, if I can make a days money or more for a couple of hours work wheres the harm ?
  8. Years ago due to rushing and not wearing chainsaw trousers I took two small nicks out of my left knee, when I'm hedgelaying I have a machete in a leather scabbard, was walking along with saw without brake on while saw was running down, caught scabbard and flicked it round in front of my leg and caught my knee, lesson learnt, took kerfs out of my thumbs a couple of times when sharpening when trying to pull chain round and snags, last month while hedgelaying rushing again, forgot to put visor down while cutting a small stump (1 inchish) span it up the bar and hit me right in the eyeball, heard/felt the pop and honestly thought had burst my eyeball by the pain, note to self, more haste, less speed
  9. As was said on the radio earlier, she always had the courage of her convictions, rightly or wrongly, she had more balls and backbone than any politician/PM we have had since, is everyone going to tirade about Teflon Tony in the same way when he turns his toes? Nobody can deny she made some unpopular decisions, but she stood her ground, the stuff thats being passed round on facebook at the minute sums up the state of this country at the minute, absolutely zero respect for the dead, you may not have liked her but have some respect!
  10. It was all simpler years ago [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mURhNIjc-Kw]"I know my place" - YouTube[/ame]
  11. Emergent service class, must be a long emergence I been self employed for 20 years
  12. Warm and sunny here for last two days, brother reckons it was up to 11 c yesterday, so I've took the plunge and got me hair cut as I was starting to resemble grizzly adams after this long winter so now doubt will now turn cold again
  13. Another vote here for strauss, not the cheapest but you get what you pay for, last very well, sizes can be a bit over generous but sometimes its no bad thing
  14. Seconded for the samsung, I'm on my second one not got all the bells and whistles of some of them, but decent battery life, reasonable camera, etc mine has been dropped, bounced, squashed, dropped in water and survived all the dust mud etc chucked at it, I fancy a smartphone but i know it just wouldnt survive
  15. As Jethro said the only mistake Tony Marten made was he didnt get the second bugger!
  16. I know the feeling mate, its been feast and famine for a while for me no continuity to the work its either that much to do you can't get it done or nowt at all, I agree that going cheap can get you in a hole when you want to get back to sensible priceing but when the devil drives you have to do what needs to be done, I've done cheaper day rates labouring over the last year to keep the money flowing, but its easy to go out and earn nowt, you can stay home and do that without spending the money on fuel etc, its a fine line but when it comes down to providing for your family you have to do what needs to be done
  17. King Goblin, Adnams Broadside, Old Tom, Blandford Flyer (far too drinkable ), Gingerbeard, I always find ones i like and then forget what they are, thats my excuse to keep trying them anyway
  18. Eldest of 5, 2 brothers (first one died when I was 3) 2 sisters, none of my own got 3 stepsons, 3 nephews and a niece at the last count
  19. I had'nt been to the dentist for 17 years due to a particuarly sadistic one, eventually went back last year as pain from one rotten one was getting too much to bear, ended up having to have 6 removed in the end, one of which despite being given maximum amount of anasthetic still hurt like a beach, think I called the dentist some choice names despite a mouthfull of pliers and left a hand imprint in the arm of his chair I do self medicate for most things but teeth removal is one I cant manage myself
  20. £65 a cube here still, not pushed them greatly this winter as did'nt have time to cut enough last year, so still got fair bit to go at
  21. Neighbour at the farm had thier heating oil pinched thier tank is only 30 yards from my diesel tank which was empty at the time anyway, they only realsied when I went to ask if it was leaking as I had opened a manhole on the yard and stank of kero, they thought they had a problem with aga as had only just filled the tank, scum had undon the union at the tank drained it and done it back up, but must have spilt a load which had found its way into the drain
  22. Spent 9 days on a moor fire few years back when I was keeper on the Peaknaze moor near Glossop, was started by a dropped cigarette and burned 300+ acres, had 3 helicopters water bombing and filling temporary resevoirs, but the only one of them who was any good was a lad from up scotland he'd fly the bucket in just a few feet above ground level and make everyone count the local lads would panic and let the water go too high up so it would evaporate before it got near the fire due to the heat , one of the Peak park rangers told me the last fire they had on there before that, turned so quick that they were running ahead of it to get back to the vehicles and get them off the moor and eventually burnt itself out when reached the Snake pass
  23. Beat me to it, I had a half axle off Robert Wraight for my 6610 year before last as the king pins had warn so badly that they had cold welded themselves into the swivel housing , but without showing any play while driving
  24. Horses for courses, if your only doing firewood fair enough you need to get loads out in a day, in my case firewood is a sideline to help with cash flow during the winter when I'm hedgelaying and therefore the time spent having a chat and potentially picking up work for the rest of the year is time well spent
  25. I have but as is usually the case on a job I cant remember any of them hence I usually ask for the ferkin, doofery, gadgy etc, if you work with me long enough you know what i mean anything with an engine is female due to them all being temperamental
