Stihl 028 AV super it about 23 year old once fell in a ditch full of water while running, pulled her out drained the tanks sprayed with wd40 and has run ever since unlike my two huskies which are a constant pain in the rear

Shocking I haven't been on for months and its still the same old discussion I'll say what I've said before, when it was perks of the job, i.e what ever came out from hedge laying and scrub clearing or any windblown when clearing fence lines, when your paying £60 a ton to buy it in then it your walking a fine line for profit, the only load I've bought in this year was off a tree surgeon who needed it off site to avoid penalties on the job so I only payed the transport which meant it worked out at £30 a ton, as I've got a log burner at home I'm not to worried if its not flying out the yard, I just supply a few regulars to cover the costs of cutting my own and gives something to do on a quiet day

I've got same problem, just bought a bigger tractor but to put a loader on it is 6k + vat which is what will get for old tractor I have which has got a loader on it so for now I'm trying to keep the old one going

NFU did originally used to include tree work in an agricultural policy, but when I renewed either this year or last, cant remember, it sya in the exclusiions that you are not covered for felling on roadside or haulage of timber but you are still covered for forestry works

I bought in 30 ton of poplar earlier in the year, only cost me haulage so its worked out at £10.50 a ton delivered just need some decent stuff to mix with it now

I still use an axe, have got a splitting maul, but I find a good 5-6 pound axe is a lot quicker and less damaging to your joints than a splitting maul, I'm too tight to buy a splitter

I did once read that Alder is also known as the "Jesus tree" it was claimed that the cross on which Jesus was crucified was made of Alder and hence why the timber turned red when cut, ie being the blood of christ, not going religous just what I read I've burnt loads of it over the years very good firewood and good to mix with faster burning woods to slow them down and keep the heat in the fire longer

I've used Medallion in the past always very helpfull and quick on delivery, good quality as well

I've spread mine round the borders in the garden and on the veg patch, doesnt seem to be doing any harm and apparently onions are very fond of it

Bought in 30 ton a couple of months ago as only had to pay transport for it, been splitting it into billets and leaning it against the timber stack, dries pretty quick with the sun and wind we've been having, will start cutting and mixing it in and stacking undercover, always burnt alright in the past when I've had it -
"handballing job" has got me some funny looks in the past, plus usually yelling at each other with ear muffs down only to realise client or joe public is stood nearby current favourite put down for any numpty behaviour on a job is "one million sperm and you were the fastest!"

Trouble with fire wood nowadays is the same problem as with everything else, joe public be he/she toff or not buys on price not quality, customer loyalty through quality of service and product seems to be a rapidly declining thing

I would make on myself but I have a long history of good intentions and unfinished projects best thing is my brothers a hydraulic and fabrication engineer but getting hold of him to do owt is nigh on impossible

As cheap as possible I'll run it off the tractor, was looking as I've got about 30 ton of poplar sat on the yard at the minute up to about 3ft diameter in seven foot lengths, I was thinking best way to dry it would probably be to split it into sort of 3ft billets and stack it like that so it gets more air round it, seems anything above about 2ft stroke suddenly jumps up to thousands of pounds

Ok not very well titled but having been looking around for a splitter that I can use to billet up this poplar thats now occupying my yard the biggest one I've come across has about 24 inch capacity does anyone know of one without going into megabucks territory? Ta

I've just bought in thirty ton of lombardy poplar, only had to pay the delivery so worked out about £16 per ton, now need some nicer stuff to mix it with, but st that price I couldnt turn it down

Beat me too it mate or the Admag always people trying to beg a bargain in there -
We used to use Roundup but mixed with a dye and some wallpaper paste when treating stumps during scrub clearance jobs, the boss reckoned it stopped the round up running off the stump and the dye means you can see which ones you've done

I got quoted £75 a ton delivered for green ash the other week, needless to say I have'nt bothered, I'd say if it was £55 a ton delivered thats not a bad price from what I've been hearing

I have heard about this years ago when I was still keepering, but there was a story that one keeper after endless poaching of his pheasant pens, rigged one above the pen gate facing down with a live cartridge in it, unfortunately one morning he forgot to disarm it before going through the gate, not pretty for the person who found him

Been the second generally quiet year in a row but been worse from about october through to now, now however I've got a load of fencing and hedgelaying to get done before end of February, so typically started it today and pulled a muscle in my back

I did ask the policeman about that after I had been burgled twice in the same year I asked him what woud happen if I chained an alsatian up in the workshop and it bit a burglar, his reply was "unofficialy we would turn a blind eye" but then as a mate of mine pointed out if you did put a dog in there the thieving scum would probably poison it first and break in anyway

Hi Joy, Happy New year to you too, should have told Rohan you were going to buy a load in, that would have got him moving Not my Ford at the minute it went poorly in an expensive way just before xmas Depends how big your fire is and like wise your net Depends how big your tree is
