  1. Be lucky to get 25 mpg out of one, wheel spin something awful in 2wd on the road, especially with a trailer on the back, second row seats are ok if you employ dwarves and you bang your knee on the gear stick constantly when in fifth, apart from that...............
  2. Usually try and get them out within a couple of days or at worst the weekend following the phone call, else tend top find round here that other wise when you ring back to arrange delivery they'll have gone else where
  3. Grass will grow in limestone without soil if you leave it long enough I'll put up a pic of my yard to prove it I'd probably put 4-6 " of top soil down and use a drought resistant seed mixture to be on the safe side
  4. Usually use click-forestry don't know if thier the cheapest but always been good quality and good on delivery too
  5. Burns very hot when dry, but will burn quicker than most hardwoods, never had any problem with it spitting so long as its well dried
  6. Makes me glad I've got sky so I've got more than two channels to choose form that have'nt got football on them
  7. Mate of mine ran a mog, mostly for moving stuff about for his small holding but would als occasionally use it to move a compressor for his sand blasting business, unfortunately for him he had taken it to a local quarry one day to do some sand blasting when they had an inspection and as he was there had his mog checked and as it was on ag and running on red it was impounded, £1000 fine and investigated for back tax on how long he'd been using it. The law as I remember it regarding ag machines and diesel is that you can run red for forestry and ag work while you are actually going to or from or doing work ie mowing, winching etc, if you transport arisings for your own use, ie timber, hay etc you can transport it on red, however if you transport it for someone else ie as part of the contract you have to transport it to the customers yard, then that is hire and reward and you should drain tanks change filters and refill with white, although its not completely that clear cut as there are exceptions such as verge mowing which is not classed as ag so you should be running on white, confused? join the club
  8. Had a run of them a few years back after I agreed to support a local kids charity, one of them when told I was'nt supporting anymore charities as I was peed off with people ringing every couple of days told me his mate worked for a company that could stop the calls, "oh right" says I all innocence, gave me his mates number, but then said when told him I was'nt interested I couldnt ring his mate and get my number removed, told him that was very interesting as I already knew about the TPS and it being a free service and that I now had his name his mates name and name of supposed charity and would be passing details on too trading standards he couldnt get off the phone quick enough
  9. Mine get done when they come due, only query I had from garage this year was wether they could do mine a he thought it would be a class 7 as its an ex electric board 110, but on v5 and all mots its listed as class 4 so no probs
  10. The best one used to be farmers trying to get you to do it for the same as they got on the Countryside Stewardship which was about £3-3.50 metre, most of those hedges were a minimum of 15ft high
  11. Pretty sure I worked out off the measurements on the label on one the other day during a moment of boredom that is 0.6 m3
  12. Jeez I'm way to cheap again I usually charge between £5 and £8 a metre including stakes, binding would be extra and burning up is extra £1 a metre or a day at tractor rate whichever is more
  13. So long as its Round up Biactive or Glyphogan or similar it should be fine to plant straight away, from what I was told most of the stronger ones like Roundup pro and Gramoxone are no longer available any way
  14. When I was working for a guy over in North Wales the other year we sent alot of brash to Chester Zoo, well actually they would send thier keepers out to fetch it, sometimes took wood chip as well
  15. Got up drove to yard, got phone call from Mrs to remind me I'd forgotten to get petrol on way for saws fed pigs, chickens and put horses out, went flail mowing, cut hand on the burr on the top link I cut myself on the other day and then forgot to do anything about, finished welding up a drying rack for the potter who has one of the units at the yard, spent an hour cutting logs, fed pigs, chickens, dog, bought in and fed horses, came home watered veg, washed down dog run, finally sat down for sunday roast with home grown peas and carrots that I did'nt get last night as did'nt get back til gone 9, typical day really
  16. I have nothing against machines for doing a job but now and again you need a man not a machine on a job and the trouble now is its getting harder and harder to find lads who will graft and not just sit on thier asses on a machine, on the plus side it means that those of us who will graft will always find work so long as we're not crippled from all the hard work
  17. I'm sorted now had a customer who wanted one of his stables emptying in return for cutting him some of it up I've got enough five year seasoned dry stored beech to keep me going for a couple of years
  18. Only time I've had trouble with my 357 xp was when the mice had decided to chew on the fuel pipe between the tank and the carb, not enough to make it an obvious leak but enough to make it draw air
  19. I bought some briquettes last year after having the log burner installed as I hadnt got any seasoned wood, they do burn well but I only used a couple to get light it and get the heat in the bottom of the fire as at £7 a bag its an expensive way to keep warm and my log burner will happily eat its way through a bag a night if the winds in the right direction
  20. Mate of mine used to run the dodge version with a hook lift body very handy truck
  21. I'd second that and the other problem has been getting paid for what work there is to do, on the plus side, school hols meant I had my 8 year old nephew stacking logs for me yesterday
  22. Had that once delivered a load to a rented cottage, nobody in so as I would with anybody else took it on trust, dropped off the wood and stuck a note through the door, few weeks later still no payment, so rang the landlord as I'd done a bit for them turns out tenants had done a bunk, but at least landlord coughed up for it As for my overdue customer he's coughed up today just hope its not a rubber cheque now, even put a note in saying thanks for a great job! If that don't take the p*ss Idon't know what does
  23. If you've done what they asked, I'd stand your ground, sounds like thier trying it on, I've just got paid off a bad debt after two months of chasing amazing what a letter giving them 5 days to pay else it goes to debt collectors and accrues 5% interest at a weekly rate does to free off someones wallet
  24. I've got one at the minute, he's never been a great payer but always put plenty of work my way but in the last 18 months he's got worse and worse, at the minute he's 6 weeks over my credit terms, sent all the usual, monthly statement of account, statement of overdue account, final demand and last week a letter informing him if it was'nt paid within 5 working days it would be passed to debt collectors and interest charged at 5 % weekly as per t's and c's and still nothing! So he's going to debt collectors as I've had enough now this is the third time he's done it, so he can go whistle for any more work unless he pays up front
  25. Think the problem stems from when more people had open fires as the spitting is more of an issue, now that more people have gone over to log burners the problem is'nt there its just convincing the customer, but personally I'll be sticking to hardwood, specially as I've got some 5 year seasoned beech in the shed, now that does burn hot
