  1. Mine get done when they come due, only query I had from garage this year was wether they could do mine a he thought it would be a class 7 as its an ex electric board 110, but on v5 and all mots its listed as class 4 so no probs
  2. The best one used to be farmers trying to get you to do it for the same as they got on the Countryside Stewardship which was about £3-3.50 metre, most of those hedges were a minimum of 15ft high
  3. Pretty sure I worked out off the measurements on the label on one the other day during a moment of boredom that is 0.6 m3
  4. Jeez I'm way to cheap again I usually charge between £5 and £8 a metre including stakes, binding would be extra and burning up is extra £1 a metre or a day at tractor rate whichever is more
  5. So long as its Round up Biactive or Glyphogan or similar it should be fine to plant straight away, from what I was told most of the stronger ones like Roundup pro and Gramoxone are no longer available any way
  6. When I was working for a guy over in North Wales the other year we sent alot of brash to Chester Zoo, well actually they would send thier keepers out to fetch it, sometimes took wood chip as well
  7. Got up drove to yard, got phone call from Mrs to remind me I'd forgotten to get petrol on way for saws fed pigs, chickens and put horses out, went flail mowing, cut hand on the burr on the top link I cut myself on the other day and then forgot to do anything about, finished welding up a drying rack for the potter who has one of the units at the yard, spent an hour cutting logs, fed pigs, chickens, dog, bought in and fed horses, came home watered veg, washed down dog run, finally sat down for sunday roast with home grown peas and carrots that I did'nt get last night as did'nt get back til gone 9, typical day really
  8. I have nothing against machines for doing a job but now and again you need a man not a machine on a job and the trouble now is its getting harder and harder to find lads who will graft and not just sit on thier asses on a machine, on the plus side it means that those of us who will graft will always find work so long as we're not crippled from all the hard work
  9. Only time I've had trouble with my 357 xp was when the mice had decided to chew on the fuel pipe between the tank and the carb, not enough to make it an obvious leak but enough to make it draw air
  10. Mate of mine used to run the dodge version with a hook lift body very handy truck
  11. I'd second that and the other problem has been getting paid for what work there is to do, on the plus side, school hols meant I had my 8 year old nephew stacking logs for me yesterday
  12. Had that once delivered a load to a rented cottage, nobody in so as I would with anybody else took it on trust, dropped off the wood and stuck a note through the door, few weeks later still no payment, so rang the landlord as I'd done a bit for them turns out tenants had done a bunk, but at least landlord coughed up for it As for my overdue customer he's coughed up today just hope its not a rubber cheque now, even put a note in saying thanks for a great job! If that don't take the p*ss Idon't know what does
  13. If you've done what they asked, I'd stand your ground, sounds like thier trying it on, I've just got paid off a bad debt after two months of chasing amazing what a letter giving them 5 days to pay else it goes to debt collectors and accrues 5% interest at a weekly rate does to free off someones wallet
  14. I've got one at the minute, he's never been a great payer but always put plenty of work my way but in the last 18 months he's got worse and worse, at the minute he's 6 weeks over my credit terms, sent all the usual, monthly statement of account, statement of overdue account, final demand and last week a letter informing him if it was'nt paid within 5 working days it would be passed to debt collectors and interest charged at 5 % weekly as per t's and c's and still nothing! So he's going to debt collectors as I've had enough now this is the third time he's done it, so he can go whistle for any more work unless he pays up front
  15. Probly if they still made them I'd say Stihl 028 with 18" bar in fact I've just resurrected mine after is been in bits for about 10 years but the one I always went for before it got knicked was my 372xp husky with 24" bar, good power to weight and alot less thirsty than the stihls I was running at the time
  16. This is the fastest landy I've owned, had a ford essex 3.0l v6 in it never had it flat out but managed 85 one day with an unladen trailer on back without realising this pic was when out fencing and asked younger brother top fetch some more materials running an ex electric board td5 110 hardtop at the minute
  17. My mate had a pto one with the 45 degree in feed hopper when he first started that was ok til you got down to tidying up all the little short bits at the end of the job, thier the bits that tend to get chucked back out, mind I've been whacked by bits shot back out by a hydraulic feed chipper before now as well
  18. Only had one snap in twenty odd years (touch wood and whistles ) that was 18 inch on husky 357, clipped some sheep netting cutting back hedge stumps on road side, just wrapped up in the wire no serious damage
  19. I'll bear you in mind if my usual men don't want to do it
  20. Got reminded of this one earlier hadnt heard it for a good while Pay peanuts and get monkeys
  21. Made some round bale haylage the other week, but then got a call to say the lad who owns the 16 acres I've been given for last couple of years needs it himself this year as he's short of grass, though hvae been offered another ten acres somewhere else it'll be velcro trouser time and I'll need a brave baler man any volunteers?
  22. Try an ad in the local free ads paper got me a few responses when I was looking for yard space when I was over in north wales (short lived stay in the end but thats another story )
  23. Been photographed and filmed by customers quite a few times, did get asked to do an instructional hedgelaying video a few years back but turned it down and was asked if I wanted to model for Brocklehurst's catalogue once but turned that down too, I'm camera shy
  24. My Grandpa gave me a copy of this many years ago, holds some true words If you think you are beaten, you are, If you think you dare not, you don't. If you like to win, but you think you can't, It is almost certain you won't. If you think you'll lose, you're lost, For out in the world we find, Success begins with a fellow's will. It's all in the state of mind. If you think you are outclassed, you are, You've got to think high to rise, You've got to be sure of yourself before You can ever win a prize. Life's battles don't always go To the stronger or faster man. But soon or late the man who wins, Is the man who thinks he can. ~ C. W. Longenecker ~
  25. Masstock Arable at burton on trent were selling 5 litres of Glyphogan for about £35 if thats any good to you, not sure if they deliver in your area, I'll look the number out if you want it
