  1. Was by dinner time, had 4 smallish trees to knock over and chip to finish a site clearance started yesterday, dried out during the afternoon
  2. I burn it no problem and sell it and customers are happy with it, it does burn quite fast when dry same as willow, the trouble with it is its very wet when split, so takes a while to dry and once dry really needs keeping under cover as it acts like a sponge and will soak up rain if left in the open, last lot I bought was off a site clearnace so only paid haulage as they just wanted it off site, worked out at £3 a ton, at that price I'll burn it all day
  3. Only had it once, price some fencing for a big firm labour only, put in double my usual price as being one man band it was too much work, got the job, they wanted 60 days credit, I sent back to thier accounts dept that I was on 14 days credit as small firm etc, billed it weekly and was always paid before the 14 days, don't think I'd take the risk again though unless it was a cast iron contract
  4. Yep I started typing that on the end but lost my train of thought and couldnt think how to word it
  5. Usually I go do paper work or repairs, but I'm subbing to local tree firm at mo, so the other day spent all day felling and chipping in torrential rain to finish a job, was'nt sure in the end if my boots were leaking or if it had run in from the top
  6. Ended up having to change my phone as Orange business switched me to EE and my old samsung refused to work on it apart from a few very isolated spots, literally if you moved 2 inches it wouldnt work, seems ok now have got a newer phone but Orange business are a complete pita to deal with
  7. Just politely say yes I can but that will be extra, either say they say ok no problem or ok leave it as is, either way your not out of pocket, alternatively do it without quibbling and put extra on to cover it next time you price something
  8. Once it gets through to your skin you cant get any wetter so might as well keep going
  9. I used to wear one for a long time after having back problems, mate of mine pointed out same as the above, that it would never get stronger while I was wearing a belt, have'nt worn one since, still get some lower back pain if spent alot of time bent over when logging or snedding, but usually frees off again fairly quick
  10. Not yet, had to remove log burner as the chimney sweep condemned it, have just finished alterations to the chimney breast and orfered the bits to refit so all being well should be up and running again by next weekend
  11. Would'nt trust Natwest as far as I could kick em, helpfull banking?!! should be done under trade descriptions
  12. Farmer/contractor/hedge layer/landscaper etc etc and owt else I can do to earn a penny, always worked round trees to some degree, and am currently subbing as a groundie to help out a local firm, came here on the never ending quest for firewood and someone shut the door behind me and trapped me here
  13. If its a reasonable hedge 20m should be a steady days work for one man and then half day/day to burn up the brash, Iusually charge between £7 and £12 per metre with stakes depending on size roughness of hedge and distance for travelling
  14. We had loads on a job this week taking down two big pops, they were going mad on the sap didnt bother us til I folded my arms while chatting and squashed one on my shirt so it stung me
  15. Pointy end up and you've made me fancy a boiled egg for brekky now but not sure if got an egg cup anymore
  16. Agreed the RSPCA is purely a money making organisation now with little or no interest in animal welfare, theres plenty of evidence of how they have ignored serious animal welfare issues because they would not give them enough publicity to fill thier coffers and line the pockets of thier cheif exec, the evidence of culling of wildlife resevoirs i.e badgers and deer being effective in couintries that have carried it out including Australia shows that it works as a method of controlling TB, as side effect it will also help conservation as the badger population has been protected since the 1950's it has steadily increased, at the same time numbers of hedgehogs and some ground nesting birds that are prey to badgers have steadily decreased, but then controlling one species to conserve another has never sat well with the bunny huggers
  17. Got me today been loads hanging round two big pops we've been felling and cutting, not really bothered us as been more interested in the sap, but must have been one on my shirt earleir and when I folded my arms while stood talking must have squashed him and stung me chest, lucky thier only little buggers not the big ones we usually get round here
  18. Having the same thoughts on what to plant over winter as my peas are about finished and first lot of onions are out, I'm going to have a nosey on Dobies see what they have, also got caterpillar problems went to get some toms for dinner and the buggers hvae eaten the ripe ones
  19. If you mix it in with something slower burning i.e alder it makes a good mix, I've been burning it for years cheap heating as nobody else wants it
  20. Local firms are'nt always better, we used a "reputable" local firm, 30 years expereince, family firm etc, billed us £3500 for a new porch 2 sides and door plus extra panel with window and new back door, theres been a howling gale through both doors and the porch since fitted gaev up after two years of trying to get them to do anything about it, thier guarantee wasnt worth the paper its written on and the independent guarantee thing thier spose to give you to cover thier work never appeared
  21. SBK is top stuff for stumps, if you really want to see someone twitch ask if you can still get Gramoxone never had to retreat anywhere that was sprayed with that mind stank of it for weeks after
  22. Warm and muggy and just had a roll of thunder and flash of lightening
  23. Been on the 365 all day today and can't fault it maybe not as quick as my 357xp but a good solid lugger and plenty powerfull
  24. Put it in a shed
  25. Fell rats guaranteed to turn up at the wrong time and utter "oooh what a shame/ooohhh what a lovely job/your so lucky to work outside etc"
