  1. Where we live is near a footpath across the fields, the front of our house is used as a car park for dog walkers, so we can't always park when we get home, which is bad enough, but one day wife was in the kitchen saw the dog walker come back, put the dog in the car and toss the bag of dog doo in our front garden wife was out the door in ten seconds flat grabbed the bag and chucked it at the car as was going round the corner where it burst on rear windscreen we don't seem to get so many dog walkers parking here now
  2. Probably depends if you wear it long enough to develop its own ecosystem as it would if grown naturally
  3. Grazon is still available, I've been buying it through Progreen this year, its now called Grazon Pro, I have given the horse tail a go with it as had some left while I was down the field spraying thistles so will see what it does.
  4. How about one of these, save the bother of growing it [ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bristol-Novelties-Lumberjack-Beard-Black/dp/B000WNITEO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1372886246&sr=8-1&keywords=lumberjack+beard]Lumberjack Beard (Black): Amazon.co.uk: Toys & Games[/ame]
  5. Mares tail is the aquatic one, I now know, always thought they were one and the same
  6. Been doing some more looking, its horse tail not mare's tail that I've got but thing is, I was always told it was poisonous, tops mildy and roots lethally so but have'nt found any mention of it, have found interesting article on them here though http://http://www.sherriff-amenity.com/technical.asp?newsid=3
  7. Well thats where I was a few years back, I was busy enough to cherry pick the decent jobs, the ones I fancied that were worth doing, but it bites you in the aris after a while, now I don't turn anything down
  8. Have'nt had mares tail in this part of the wood in years its all of a sudden reappeared, it has also started sneaking into the fields in one or two places bordering wet areas we fenced out for the wildlife, if worst comes too it will have to use the Kurtail or Pure reap
  9. Had a feeling it was but when read the bottle earlier it does'nt mention mares tail anymore, will give it a try, cheers
  10. I had someone try that one once, so and so will do it for such and such if you can match it the jobs yours, I said if he can do it for that good luck to him, left the customer doing a fair impression of a goldfish
  11. Evening all, got some young planting at the farm thats ready for thinning but the mares tail has gone mad this year is above my knees , I want to spray it off before starting thinning as don't want to be sawing in amongst it, only effective sprays I've seen for mares tail will knock out all the grass etc as well and leave bare ground so wondered if is anything selective that will do the job?
  12. I don't change the price if I'm told they have other qoutes, but not being VAT registered makes me 20% cheaper, so if I'm somewhere near the other prices that can make the difference
  13. made me late out this morn, watched the lego bridge layer vid too
  14. A small hatchback made by Fiat
  15. I don't lend out decent tools as they usually come back screwed, one exception was a few years back, got a call off a tree surgeon friend of mine asking if a mate of his could "hire" my sawbench seeing as it was an old Mcconnell not in the best of nick I said no but he could borrow it as long as he sharpened the blades in return for use, when the guy dropped it back he had sharpened both blades, fixed the pto guard and the foot brake on the belts and bought me a case of beer, I couldnt persuade him to borrow anything else though
  16. Best one I had was few years back, after the milkman got stuck on the drive at the farm in the snow he refused to bring the milk down the drive even in the summer so would leave it a the road end, someone cottoned onto this and would nick a pint every morning, best bit was the cheeky barsteward would wash the bottle out and leave it the next morning
  17. Exactly the lines I was thinking along mate, simple economics there will always be a level o fprice that the market will stand, wether that level is above or below what you need to make to cover costs really depends on where you are in the country and how many people providing the same service in your area, everyone from private individuals to local authorities are trying to save money, after foot and mouth round here there must have been another half dozen agri fencing contractors sprung up which has pushed it to the point where I usually get 1 in 10 of the jobs priced, due to people with shiny kit working for nowt just to keep cash flow and keep bank happy, similarly since the start of the recession it seems every man and his dog has got a trailer on the back of thier car with a mower in and is a gardener, if you can afford to stand your ground and wait for people to accept prices at the level your happy at thats fair enough, if not you do like me and take whats offered workwise even if it may not be my core work or using any of the gear I've got, monies, money at the end of the day
  18. Said to a mate of mine who eyes up anything with a pulse, "even dogs sit down when you walk past"
  19. All depends on what quality of turf your using can range from 75p a square yard to £3-4 per square yard, also how much prep work does the site need, removal of old turf, digging/rotavating, levelling and stone picking, the laying is the quick bit! Its the prep where the costs are
  20. He who knows all, knows nowt
  21. My dads got a similar one being of a large build, he always says "you don't put bay windows in derelict properties"
  22. Customer of mine was having chcikens stolen, turned out was a local lad, police knew about him but would'nt do anything other than warn him as he had mental health problems, he never broke the locks, used to climb over the fence, which was 5ft high chicken netting, I ended up putting coils of barb wire round the top of the pens for the customer, that seemed to stop him
  23. I wore a Sieko that my grandparents gave me for nigh on 15years without any problems with it still the pins in the metal strap gave out, the replacement strap lasted about 2 months, so gave up, put it away safe, wife bought me another but was too chunky so have'nt worn one for years now, got a clock on my phone if I need to be somewhere for a certain time, I find I get alot more done without a watch on because you can't see the day ticking away in front of you
  24. Tight as a ducks bum and thats watertight
