  1. i reckon thats where the stein retreiver inventor got his idea! i think youve got a bit of excessive play in the vice there
  2. dont go for an otterbox, i had one and couldnt get on with that rubber on the outside doing what it wants. i got a case mate Tank, much tougher, its smoother plastic on the outside so more pocket friendly and if you find their video on youtube it certainly stands up to a beating. similar money, better value IMO.
  3. Reducing these poplars to a hedge, will basically be topping them, and in a few years they will become dangerous with regrowth, something i wouldnt want to deal with! i see where you are coming from with that, but imo these trees dont add much to the area they are in, with them covered in ivy, i agree it can be valuable habitat, i have recommended removal and replanting of native british species that will have a higher amenity value.
  4. I've pondered plates for a while and can't seem to find anything! I'd like R12 ARB the 12 looks a bit like an R for my initials and 12 is my birth month. Cash just seems to elude me!
  5. I wonder if I had my girlfriend dressed like that on my truck I'd he more business (and a kicking off her!)
  6. ed i wouldnt even burn my own logs if yours came with her
  7. tony try Self Publishing and Book Printing Solutions - Books, EBooks, Photo books and Calendars at Lulu.com if you want to publish anything, they have their own marketplace and you can link to it, they take money for producing books but you can charge what you want! i really do think you will go places with a book tony. I have every confidence you will!
  8. Ouch! That's not pretty! Heal quick Steve
  9. anybody going on one this year? ive just booked a 28 day coast to coast america trip encompassing LA, San fran, redwood national park, vancouver, various cities across the north states and finishing in new york. i must be mad.
  10. ill get some more images up for you tomorrow tony, got a close up of the ductile fracture before i filled it with sawdust. i didnt notice anything significant, no rotten areas, there wasnt much on this tree, it seemed to be suppressed by its neighbours.
  11. dont want to make any bad suggestions and you take these with a pinch of salt, i would try and get the tree on the ground more, as its still got its crown up in the air, get it down and then work towards the base where you can reach it properly.
  12. try USA Tours | Adventure Tours | North America Travel if thats any help. im in the stages of planning a few weeks with them. seems good enough to me.
  13. nice and simple, most of the tree was on the ground, i released it at the point where it curved back up to the roof and then just before it was in contact, then i just used a stepladder and used a 200t to piece of the last bits, one roof panel fell in as the weight shifted a bit but other than that it went as i had hoped.
  14. ive got shots of that buried somewhere too! i bet that made a cool sound! how recent do you reckon that is?
  15. i leant on it! the secrets out
  16. the break at the top did intrigue me, but the branches had been cleared before i was there so could not assess them, the rest of the stem seemed healthy enough, even when i was cutting it off the roof. i couldnt find any decay. the crack in the stump (which is about 10" high) i could trace down, which indicates a shear in this and that induced a failure. Thats how i see it.
  17. you can see the ceiling fan on the table that had just been set for breakfast! he was just stirring his mug of tea before he sat down and smash!
  18. pics here
  19. Got a call out to this Lombardy Poplar yesterday. It didnt want to be a tree anymore so had a lie down on this familys conservatory, highly inconvenient! After looking closely at the stump, is this a shear bomb crack? the crack is perpendicular to the direction of the fall. Quite a good failure! it seemed a healthy tree, my idea is that it was a right force in the wrong place and it caused it to fail. would it affect the dynamics of the trees around it? it was growing on just inside a group of similar sized poplars, i have picked out a couple others in the group i would recommend out, although i dont want to take one out for it to leave another vulnerable to windthrow. edit: pics on the way!
  20. it might end up both! ill be on them till next christmas!
