  1. My thoughts exactly. I want something with good power but not too big.
  2. I would have thought idle too high! Wouldn't have thought of the clutch
  3. Going by Jonesies prices (w/o vat) the 441 comes in at £474. With the 362 and 341 coming in a bit less. At 451 and 386 Kev: 460 did cross my mind but is just a bit too big for the gap it will fill. Plus it's a little out of the budget. One day! Maybe the apf? I'm set on a stihl, I prefer them to huskies. Plus everything will match then!
  4. Doing a job taking out a group of Lombardy pops. The chip and logs are staying on site, but to save time ringing up some big stems I was wondering if anyone wanted to take some away. Some is already ringed up but there are 3 currently sat on the ground untouched as we felled them last thing today and will tidy up tomorrow. There is access for a tractor next to the trees quite easily. Anybody interested?
  5. Sold some stuff to raise some funds, so I've got £500 to spend on a saw. I've got my eye on a mid range saw to go between my 260 and 660. As the gap is a bit much! I have a spare 20" 3/8" bar and chain, I was thinking of a 441 as its got plenty power and is happy on a 20". Other than that a 362 or 341. Opinions?
  6. I ran my 660 not as hard as I do now when I got it. I'm sure stihls manual says 2-3 tankfuls no full revving on no load. I'd happily work a saw reasonably well soon after getting it. You buy it to work so why treat it like a pillow?
  7. Got some pops to clear up from today's antics. Got a schliesing 550zx chipper. It's awesome!
  8. Petzl sequoia here!
  9. I didn't do much work in the first 2 years though. So 3 years really! Still did well, any holes I got stitched up and it helped them last.
  10. I've just gone from 5 years in one pair of hiflex to stretch airs, the build quality difference is shocking! Won't go back to stihls.
  11. Got my wires crossed a little while sorting out workers, means I'm a climber short. Job starts tomorrow and depending on how well we get on could be till Wednesday. Want to get everything down ASAP. Paid on last day of work. You can meet us on site at 8am or come to my yard at 7am and I will drive us in. Please pm or call/text 07841128366 Sorry for the short notice. Cheers
  12. I got one of those. eBay special! It gave me a reading of 20% when stuck into the end grain of some plane that had been down and undercover since June! Don't know whether it is accurate but all the wood burns well!
  13. I bought 12mm ply and coated it with 2 coats of exterior gloss paint. Holding up well enough and isn't too heavy, not sure of the weight but it's about 4 boards worth.
  14. There's a 357 on fleabay under £200 with spare bar and chains. It's on my watch list ATM.
  15. you may very well have a market there, a couple of site clearance jobs ive been on we had to take logs and having a dedicated team on that instead of having to lose a dragger/sawman because he could operate the bobcat to load a tractor trailer was slowing the job down a bit. if you dont already, make sure youve got CSCS, thats becoming ever more popular now.
  16. or lack of is that a branch or stem section?
  17. I do prefer the Velcro ability, I hate doing the straps on my legs, to get them comfy they have to be tight. I'm very tempted for either of the geckos. How much would a pair of ali bashlins in good condition be worth?
  18. If clients aren't educated about what's right, how else will arb move forward and push the undesirables out because everyone is on to them! I advise my customers, I don't act to patronise but I'd rather do a little bit at a time, I advise to compromise what they want with what's best, usually works to a degree, but you can't have it all ways.
  19. Ive been looking at either buying a new set of spikes and selling my current ones which are alloy bashlins, I was thinking of going over to aluminium distels or carbon fibres, whilst checking prices I saw the bashlin Velcro pads, would these be the better option, also they are a lot cheaper. I've tried the carbon spikes and found them very comfy, although I am yet to have a go of a set of Velcro straps. Any reviews?
  20. It's money, you'd be complaining if you weren't working at all! I've come home with both arms completely red and feeling like they are on fire, get some soothing cream with eucalyptus oil in and it will be gone. I love working with connies.
  21. Depending where he does the degree, the fees could be as much as £9k per year!
  22. I find a lot of crosscutting on a log on the floor will jam up a nose sprocket. Catch it early an you can rev it out, otherwise it's a strip down on site job! Chain and bar oil fine, just gets clogged up!
  23. Chuck Norris can hunt me all he wants! The big beardy weirdy!
  24. theres a local mag round me that does a quarter page for £54/month, they have 2 editions of the mag a month, and it saw me a good amount of work over summer, thats all i advertise in.
  25. this seems to be a very much common sense issue rolled in with an arrogant horse type! no offence to any horse types on here, but you always get bad eggs! with you moving the fence even though it was said that it had been moved, IME you have grounds to not start any work until the client has held up their end of the 'contract'. On top of everything else, take lots of photos, nobody can disprove a photo! especially of the poor horse!
