  1. ill get some more images up for you tomorrow tony, got a close up of the ductile fracture before i filled it with sawdust. i didnt notice anything significant, no rotten areas, there wasnt much on this tree, it seemed to be suppressed by its neighbours.
  2. dont want to make any bad suggestions and you take these with a pinch of salt, i would try and get the tree on the ground more, as its still got its crown up in the air, get it down and then work towards the base where you can reach it properly.
  3. try USA Tours | Adventure Tours | North America Travel if thats any help. im in the stages of planning a few weeks with them. seems good enough to me.
  4. nice and simple, most of the tree was on the ground, i released it at the point where it curved back up to the roof and then just before it was in contact, then i just used a stepladder and used a 200t to piece of the last bits, one roof panel fell in as the weight shifted a bit but other than that it went as i had hoped.
  5. ive got shots of that buried somewhere too! i bet that made a cool sound! how recent do you reckon that is?
  6. i leant on it! the secrets out
  7. the break at the top did intrigue me, but the branches had been cleared before i was there so could not assess them, the rest of the stem seemed healthy enough, even when i was cutting it off the roof. i couldnt find any decay. the crack in the stump (which is about 10" high) i could trace down, which indicates a shear in this and that induced a failure. Thats how i see it.
  8. you can see the ceiling fan on the table that had just been set for breakfast! he was just stirring his mug of tea before he sat down and smash!
  9. pics here
  10. Got a call out to this Lombardy Poplar yesterday. It didnt want to be a tree anymore so had a lie down on this familys conservatory, highly inconvenient! After looking closely at the stump, is this a shear bomb crack? the crack is perpendicular to the direction of the fall. Quite a good failure! it seemed a healthy tree, my idea is that it was a right force in the wrong place and it caused it to fail. would it affect the dynamics of the trees around it? it was growing on just inside a group of similar sized poplars, i have picked out a couple others in the group i would recommend out, although i dont want to take one out for it to leave another vulnerable to windthrow. edit: pics on the way!
  11. it might end up both! ill be on them till next christmas!
  12. it has been i got a new watch from my mum too, yet to wear it, need links removed. i got so much food too, two tubs of pringles, after eights, tin of minature heroes, thorntons, rolos, galaxy bars, pop tarts im gonna be huge

  14. i finally got my own DSLR camera, i got properly spoilt this year. 21st aswell too. not the most expensive present, but most awesome, a signed copy of lee evans book with the message 'happy 21st birthday rob from lee evans' that put a smile on my face father couldnt decide, gave me cash to put towards anything i want, i think ill spend a month in america next summer with it!
  15. Happy Christmas you lot All the best for the new year!
  16. Got mine today too! Much more distracting than last years! Whoop whoop!
  17. I bought a 4 ton (supposedly) one of these for £20. Use it for pulling stumps. I've not had an issue with it. Could do with its reach being more than 10ft though! Good if you ripping up small connies with something close to anchor to. The release mechanism is finicky though.
  18. How dare you call me a dirty northerner, i only had a bath last week!
  19. I think that confirms the theory, tony really is a nutter!
  20. Yeah all cheques made to my name. I'm just concerned if the bank would cotton on to it and investigate, don't suppose they would. I am registered self employed and turned over less than 8k since April, as I'm not even managing a 5k tax threshold wage, I don't pay tax on that yet!
  21. I'll second Quercus ilex too
  22. Pa1 is just the paperwork side of pesticides, if you only have that then legally you can't spray! I've got pa1, pa2a and pa6a. The courses do give some handy knowledge!
  23. I would not want to go out gritting and snow clearing in that!
  24. I had a sit in this at the arb show. I wanted to take it home! As soon as I can afford a mog, I'm having one!
  25. I do all my banking in one current account with a separate savings account that I try to keep topping up. Im with Halifax, never had an issue, went overdrawn accidentally and as it wasn't arranged I was about to get charged. I phoned up and managed to get it reversed. That was about 2007 though and things have changed! Is there any point in me opening a separate account to do my work related funds? I can't really see much point in it!
