  1. my bollard is strapped on with two 5t straps, ive been using ratchet straps well before i got the bollard so i familiar with them, you do need some slack for it to get hold and keep hold! Hope the guy recovers well, probably wasnt just a little bit of fluff!
  2. we will probably be there around 9. looking forward to it!
  3. you could try stobarts biomass, i know they collected some from kev stephenson
  4. fraser fir seem to be increasingly popular, the ones we have are very tightly grown so are narrow, more people buy these to save space, still not as popular as the nordman though!
  5. It's a rather extreme form of trolling as I know it. I visit The Art of Trolling: Yahoo Answers, Chatroullette, Omegle and it is all light hearted and nothing even half as serious as that. I think it's bang out of order what he did!
  6. i had that yesterday, up a very bendy silver birch in a front garden which had all the gusty wind blowing straight into it, made for an interesting climb, got half way done from the ground with my trusty ebay special pole pruner and found these little buggers! The mother had a look of shock on its face as i approached it!
  7. It's not my chipper. I know it's belt driven from the shaft but I'm not sure on it's adjustments in other parts of the machine.
  8. I'm all for looking flash doing the work but don't want to buy a pair that will fall to bits. I've heard good reviews and not so good about the ones I'm interested in. 4 years out of this current pair of hiflex ain't so bad, I mustn't be working hard enough? I'll save up for some 2011 stretchies I think, and get them in a way to save vat!
  9. he's the Big Boss of Beechwood Trees and Landscapes Certainly give him a call. Can you not get a personal development loan? Search for it on Website of the UK government : Directgov
  10. We've got 25000 growing here now. Different ages, some are 10 some 6 and some were planted this year. Mainly nordmans and Fraser. With a few spruces thrown in. We will shift a couple in December though. About 3-4000 we will sell. If not a few more! Eggs: make sure you have stock for the weekends. Especially the 10/11th this December. That will be busy. It will for us.
  11. I'm due a pair within the next few months I think! Been sewn up a lot now my hiflex. I like the price of the hiflex, however, I'm keen tontry something else. Don't know whether I could shell out for the new stretch airs. However, are the 2011 models good? I've been looking at the stein ones too. seem pretty good! What's the best option? Cheers!
  12. What's the possibikitybthat the travellers used the easiest to get hold of chemical -glyphosate- and just mixed it way too strong? It can happen and can kill trees in a strong enough dose. Even a strong residual chemical would only be in the soil. Depending on the time since they were killed. I would treat it like any tree that just died. If it doesn't look dangerous I'd climb it. The tree has only been killed 'biologically' and not 'physically'.
  13. I've been quoted 1400 by stumpbusters. Which is as good as it could be I think. Now the firm who gave us the job, who want it done before the end of the month, are now telling us to hang fire! Nightmare!
  14. After realising that there's only 1 of me and that I can't be in Runcorn doing tree work and in Warrington doing tractor work next week the tractor work is getting moved so I am coming Btw, I won't be dressed like a jester!
  15. Grinder it is then. I think a mulcher is too 'extreme' for what the job is. Does anybody have any idea what stumpbusters would charge for this? Or even yourselves. Stumps range from 6" up to about 20" at the biggest. We have access to a grinder mounted on a bobcat if that would prove more effective than a self propelled unit?
  16. Got a job to do to remove a load of trees along a road, most are going but some are staying. There are a number of small shrubs around too which are all coming out aswell. There is only 5 days to take out 66 trees and all the shrubs and get them ground out. What's the better option, just bring in a stump grinder or get hold of a forestry type mulcher that will do the whole bed, but my concern with that would be damage to remaining tree roots.? What's the availability of machines like the mulcher and the costs involved? If anybody knows All the area is being covered in soil to create a planting bed for future projects. Access is roadside Few pics attached! Green dots mean it's days are numbered!
  17. the TW PT-300H runs on a 1000rpm PTO shaft, and performs exactly the same on both a 200hp and 120hp machine.
  18. The chemical is only harmful to us in concentrate or solution. Once it's been taken up by plants and trees it's in a different form. I wouldn't think it would cause any issues. The only issue I would want to be aware of is rot in the trees causing them to be unsafe.
  19. All 3 of us driving? You take the pedals. I'll steer. Sam can do the gears! My dad has asked me to work but I should be able to swing it a little bit I hope!
  20. Seems like a good book. I need to buy a bigger bookcase first though! Tesco have already got mr kiplings mince pies with custard in! And I've had a few in too
  21. What about the north west? I'll keep a saw in the car I think!
  22. That too. You'd still need your second man anyway. Why not make him do a bit more than watch
  23. I got stung on the eyelid as a kid. Lucky it didn't sting 1mm higher! Hated them ever since. I've got a sycamore stem to fell that's got a nest at the base. It's opening has been covered by wood and expanding foam. Let's hope they have left by Monday!
  24. Ooo shortbread!
  25. If I came to do that I'd just chog it down. Say there you go here's your pile of firewood, quick blow round to get the sawdust under the hedge and in the flowerbeds and get paid. Pay a second guy to play with the other one, done for lunch!
