  1. that crossed my mind actually! a free wood sign would see a lot disappear i think!
  2. Got 5 lombardy pops coming up, ive not secured the job yet but im putting some feelers out. In st helens, you can get a good sized wagon up there, probably an 8 wheeler i would imagine. Im after someone who either wants it and can take it off my hands from site or somebody to haul it away for me to about 7 miles away. If you want it, its free, however you have to come and get it, doesnt matter how you take it away as long as it disappears. they are about 70ft tall but wood will be about 30" at thickest and about 18" at thinnest and roughly 40ft of stem each. a good amount of wood.
  3. its not the best, but when dry will burn average, people have mixed experience with it.
  4. I know, i saw it in the trafford centre selfridges and flicked through it a bit and thought it would be one worth having, not at their price though!
  5. Now I know for next time! I've ordered a few more fungi books, roger Phillips and terrors book this week. Along with mushroom miscellany. So I'll be able to identify more with a bit of ease!
  6. It was a bit of a long shot. It's all i know that's similar looking ish Were the rest right through?
  7. Desiccated I. Hispidus, ganoderma (adspersum/applanatum?) phelinus sp and what appears to be pleurotus ostreatus?
  8. I've not used a huge amount but I love the sound of my 660 with it's dual port exhaust. Some of the older 090s and 070s sound pretty cool!
  9. It's up to your judgement if you think it's safe. As we can't see the tree and judge the conditions to climb there's no point asking!
  10. Eat it and see if you die It mustn't be deadly for the tree if you don't
  11. What a bunch of fun guys eh It's really starting to grow on me this stuff. Only realised within the past couple of weeks, must be my path!
  12. Does anybody from the north west need a lift down?
  13. I did look at the healing and was unsure. I didnt think shear bomb though! I need to read through my vta book!
  14. Cordyceps? If so they are freaky and awesome! Cool plants
  15. I know, the bulges on the stem got me thinking of fistulina, but as it's nothing to do with fistulina, ignore that bit Cool, I'll save that! Cheers Is the ganoderma causing a cone shaped cavity in the stem? I imagine that it would be that anyway as it advances, but would only extend so far upwards due to it's habits as a butt/stem rotter and where it has colonised. The decay would extend laterally as the tree puts on it's reactive growth. Is that close to the situation or am I way off the Mark?
  16. Damn, my other guess would have been australe! Fistulina colonisation in the heartwood causing the buckles to turn into cankers. If that happens. Padawon feels the force, but is unsure whether it was that spicy chilli or not
  17. I would say the same as hodge. Surely it's common sense to back the towbar to the towball?
  18. If it's any help steve I got it! Small or far away? Father ted is ace
  19. Ganoderma (resinaceum?) causing a central cavity causing the tree to produce a bottle butt with reactive growth. The remaining wood looks like it's starting to buckle as the decay advances. Would the buckles then turn into fistulina cankers?
  20. Is the little bulge not a sphiroblast? (sp?) seem to see them on beech. I was half right with the fungi The polyporus confused me a little though. The form was right but it's 'markings' weren't!
  21. now it carries medium-sized trees good effort for a very high visibility lunge!
  22. There no fibre buckling or evidence of stress. The decay could have only gone as far as the old branch went so may have taken less than you think. It looks as though it's on the side of the branch? The pruning cut wasnt brilliant so there could be some further decay, If you are concerned look at reducing the end weight and lever arm acting on the union. If it can hold up in full weight, why not at 70-80%?
  23. First one looks to me like a part desicated Polyporus squasmosus Second is a Gano, first inkling could be applanatum On the old log looks like another guano but can't be sure without more pics On the oak it seems like you've got Hamas favourite Grifola frondosa - hen of the woods and also the little mushrooms next the the stem in the first shot of that is Collybia fusipes, looking at the basal swelling of that oak it is certainly trying to fight
  24. I have the oversized dogs on my 660. They are good for logging up and with the larger bottom spike, not only does it like to put holes in everything it can just about stop the saw tipping nose down with a 3' bar. The standard ones don't hold it up at all The original dogs I took off and put the inner one on my 260. Just for fun! I think they compliment the 13" bar
  25. That is brilliant!
