  1. I honestly don't know. I now have my defender tipper but also have my Hilux. Life is good!!
  2. I would say £17 per hour per man is far too cheap. If you are doing a quality job plus supplying fuel as I do, or believe i do, I think £25 is a fair price. If they turn their nose up at it I would just say perhaps you don't need the work!! If you really need the work do it for next to nothing if not push your luck!!
  3. Have got to have tomorrow off to look after my boy. Tonsilitis!!
  4. I have a warning for all you men out there. At my local supermarket there are two scantily clad women that drape themselves all over your car and then you when you get out and whilst doing this they steal your wallet. I was robbed twice yesterday and three times today!!
  5. Surely these are the trunks that have been lying around in the fields for ages. Come on Hazza get with the programme
  6. As I posted the other day quoted £900 for a radiator for my 98 entec!! Now that is a rip off!!
  7. I am in Daventry. There is a place nearby that repairs them so will go and see them tomorrow. Will get it re cored then. Got to be cheaper than replacing!! Thanks for the replies:thumbup1:
  8. Hello chaps (and ladies). The radiator on my 1998 Entec has started leaking so I phoned for a quote to replace it............£900 just for the radiator!! . Does anybody have any other ideas/solutions as that is a bit too pricey
  9. Keep us posted to what their reply is as I would probably be interested in doing something like that as I probably couldn't get time off work.
  10. So from what Sam has posted is it up for grabs again? If so I wouldn't mind being top of the list!!
  11. I love it. Everyone round my way that has one waves. Only difference is some waves are more frantic than others
  12. There is an id number so you can find out which spool of rope it originated from
  13. I have to agree here. I don't doubt that some of you guys check your ropes as you should but when i was talking to the guy doing our LOLER check (after he failed a split tail with no id tag) he said what happens if the rope in question had a fault you couldn't see on the outside and god forbid someone had an accident. What if the rope involved in the accident was unidentifiable? Lots of people climbing on what could be potentially dangerous ropes!! If they are identifiable these bits of rope could then be recalled if needed and everyone would be covered whereas if the ropes have no id how do you know what spool it came from? Keep the tags? All of them in a neat little bag which will undoubtdly get lost or thrown away!! Sometimes i despair at the chauvanistic attitude that some have towards not only their own but others H&S. Think we need to look at the bigger picture rather than what just annoys us!! Rant over
  14. No. It is there so your rope can be identified. I was informed if it isn't on your rope then it will fail the LOLER test.
  15. My god the last two are horrific!!
  16. Nomix Chipman most recently but the first one was a landscaper i believe. We done well with the Nomix and they were always very helpful.
  17. I agree that the 'good ole days' are gone but I think that you have missed the point that some are trying to make. I worked for a LA and the point that people are trying to make is that should anything go wrong with your contracts such as a lack of income or priced incorrectly and you should find that your income/profit isn't enough to pay the wages/bills then you will be taken back 'in house' so you/me (I will include myself as I also have this luxury) will not be unemployed but just working directly for the LA. It is a safety net that others do not have.
  18. Well I for one can't believe that this is happening as a 'council'. When I first started working for the LA I was working for the Direct Services Organisation which was part of the council but we worked on the customer/client basis with us having our work checked by the council although we were guaranteed the work. We were also allowed to tender for other jobs but when all fuel, labour and other costs were taken out we were only allowed to make a maximum of 5% profit and that was being a 'contractor' to the council. It seems a bit strange that the LAs can directly compete and make money as everyone is describing. Surely has to be more to it than meets the eye
  19. Yes a very good find. I think it is just what is sensible. Tickets show a certain amount of responsibility. As for employing someone without tickets and showing them how to do the job people that do things like that deserve everything they get. I would never dream of letting anyone without certification loose with one of mine just in case it comes back and bites me as I was the one to lend the saw. Check me out all opinionated:lol:. I would not say that all I have ever done is by the book but I just think that common sense should prevail especially where employees and other people can be at risk.
  20. Yeah me too. Wish I had gone. Never mind I will perhaps do it if I ever retire eventually!!
  21. I had a Canadian experience once for a few months. She was lovely:lol:. Those girls come highly recommended:lol:. Hope you are having a great time out there.
  22. I am also insured through a company that advertises on here and they actually took a photocopy of my card as well as listing them on a form. Hope you don't pay too much for your PL insurance.
  23. I was always lead to believe that you should have basic training and your 'employer' (the farmer) should check to ascertain your competency. The reasoning behind it being should the worst happen then the farmer would immediately be in the mire! Depending then, i would assume, as to what has happened then the HSE would talk to you. As to the legality of it all I believe you can do whatever you want!! Insurance side of things i would check everything and not just take peoples word on it because this is where companies will hang you out to dry. Just my opinion:lol:
