  1. How many arbs do this one then? The guy who block paved my drive left a large advertisement board outside my house(with my permission) fastened to the fence for 7 days once the work was complete with his company details etc... . They had done a cracking job and people had a good nose when walking past, Result.... 2 more driveways to block pave within a week on the same street. Having the sign written van on site is ok but its a short time to advertise yourself IMO and it can seem a bit chaotic to an average punter walking by and seeing the bedlam of tree work in full flow. People are'nt looking at the sign written van they are watching the brave man up the tree and the large machine eating the branches. Leaving a reminder for a few days when the work is done and the place is nice and tidy seemed to work for the block pavers so why not for the arb world
  2. Cant eat brocolli or cauliflower without pruning it on my plate first
  3. Had to chuckle to myself at the first sentence of your post . Its a local dialect thing and suggests around these parts your wife found it ha ha ha .
  4. I have had to turn out with the fire service to deal with peat fires before today, The sheer time and resources that have to be thrown at them is unbe effin lievable. It really does leave the service thin on resources for serious life threatning emegencies. Some folks just dont think .
  5. I was also a martins man, Used to dread the call from big Brian Harrison with his persuasive ways of making you work saturday night:lol:. If torture was legal i swear he'd have used it to get us on track every weekend.
  6. I'd say go for it. There will be plenty of horrible days and nights bashing thorn down etc but its also a great place to learn and build your speed up. Screw your pruning up a little and its not such a big deal ont he railway trees, Someones pride in thier garden and its a different matter. I'd recommend being paid hourly too if poss because your time on track is never guaranteed. We used to turn up some nights and be sent home for some silly paperwork error not of our own making, On hourly rate back home in bed was a lovely feeling . On the downside to track time never guaranteed is working through the night no matter what the weather till your times up. Wet through to the underpants is enough to make a grown man cry, especially at 11am sunday morning having worked from 2am that night and looking at 2 hours drive home and up 6.30am the next day:thumbdown:. If your'e a young keen lad fill your boots, It will also make you appreciate the better tree work out there when you move on to powerlines, private work etc...Good luck!
  7. Free chip site in immingham but you have the bridge toll and a bit of a drive from hull to get there. Maybe worth it if its a single load but not for to-ing and fro-ing witha transit or the like.. Immingham motorcycle project, Chips used to keep track open through winter.
  8. Work a 1,000,000 mph and it will pay off. Tea breaks are for girls ha ha
  9. Going from part time fire man - fulltime tree surgeon to part time tree surgeon - full time fire man. I've been involved in incidents where a dad, mum or child has lived due to our actions and their family has been able to enjoy their company for many years to come because of what we did. Train hard fight easy is the way:thumbup1:. Been slated on here before for daring to have 2 jobs though
  10. I recently visited a motocross track and got speaking to the owner. The track in question is called immingham motorcycle project and can be found on google. The track owner is a great guy and runs the track on an all are welcome basis. Throughout the winter the track can become a bit of a bog and becomes a bit dangerous for younger children. To make the track safer large volumes of woodchip are required to throw down. Being more of a community project i got the impression that not much profit if any is made from running the place. Just thought i'd stick a post on here to let everyone know that if they have the need to get shut of a large or small ammount of woodchip charitable donations to the cause are welcome. Quality is not important ie conifer but i suppose hawthorn, blackthorn etc would cause problems. Thanks. Forgot to mention the chip is welcome all year round and will be stockpiled till needed if the track is dry.
  11. jepsom brothers on the m62 between manc and the m6. no contact number sorry.
  12. 1 litre of crude oil makes 100 litres of finished product once additives are added. A percentage of the litre becomes petrol, diesel, lpg etc... . The biggest payer for the refineries is the waste product of fractioning the crude which is bitumen. The government are the guilty ones for the hugely inflated fuel prices followed a close second by the refineries. A full boycot of BP for example by the entire country is the only way to bring prices down. The people of this country dont and wont stick together so lets all just take a fisting eh
  13. If you are not replacing the DMF every time you get a fresh clutch the clutch will keep burning out. A slipping clutch kills the flywheel pretty quick. 8 in a year suggests he changes his mechanic as it seems they are not doing a good job:thumbup1:
  14. I didn't bother putting my £10 on silver birch one year cos at 33-1 it was never going to win. Hmmm:blushing:
  15. Lets give them an arbtalk bombardment in future with various random questions. For example "will this chip haddock" and they may just give up trying to scam if all they recieve is hundreds of stupid questions:lol:
  16. And of course you are aware of the exact date you are ranting on . Feel free to post over 100 at will.
  17. Im loving this rant:lol:.
  18. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMEIHlgAt_k]YouTube - Firefighter Boat Explosion[/ame] Even the pro's can get caught out with petrol. In this case the fireman didn't take into account the fuel vapour was trapped by the roof of the boat. Petrol and flames are best mixed inside pistons:thumbup1:
  19. Oh my word, I could have soooooo many opinions on this but i daren't even go there ha ha:lol:. I do both jobs.
  20. I know exactly what you mean about black humour. Its used very often by people and what some people see as very offensive is actually someone elses coping mechanism. Have i ever used black humour? Many many times.. Most people have used black humour if they are honest. Its a time and place thing to use though, Some people are more sensetive than others. Its good that you apologised to any people offended by your post. As long as you show understanding i believe it should be returned.
  21. Only just yesterday spotted the collection for the climber killed in a chainsaw accident. Jonsie is collecting donations through his website for the family. Just a reminder in case anyone hasn't spotted the collection who wanted to donate. Top of the general chat forum page on about page 7 of the thread is a direct link to F R Jones website.
  22. I think what the thread starter was saying was to gain employment as a newbie in the sector would you work for free, Not would an established surgeon work for free:confused1:. Experience in the job is everything and why would any tree company take on a wet behind the ears newbie when there are many many clue'd up guys out there wanting work. Work for free and put your foot in the door. Work for free with 5 years under your belt and well............
  23. I suppose if you offer to work for free to show your'e keen to do the job and show your ability then thats fine. As for an employer asking people to work for free for any extended period, (ie.more than a day or two) thats not really on. Also if the employer is satisfied you are up to scratch and gives you the job i think it only fair that they back pay for your free days. Thats what i would do anyway but im a vary vary vary nice man:sneaky2:
