  1. I really do understand your opinion on the insurance matters and how your costs are ramped up by having to pay for such things. Like i said i do this part time and would be in negative equity by paying for insurance for the ammount of work i get at the mo by paying a high insurance premium ie£1550 a year to climb and PL. Im just starting and need to build up steam before luxuries such as a good insurance policy (No sarcasm intended) are within my budget. Im trying to expand but have mouths to feed also , In a nut shell the gamble could lead on to bigger and better and as long as im not breaking the law i will give it a try. Am i legal insurance wise???
  2. To be honest it will be a couple of guys who are out of work at the mo and i am giving them some work to do. Its basically a tidy up job with chipping and tidying up a site behind someone who has felled the trees allready. Not a lot could go wrong(jinx). The lads are cs30-31 Qualified which is all that would be needed for this work. I dont have PL insurance as i only do a minimal amount of tree work and would pay more in insurance than i earn for part time tree work. <<Want the work but not if it could go horribly wrong.
  3. Thats the bit i dont know about , insurances and compliances. Explanations and answers in this area are needed. <<<Confused. Ta
  4. Garlon her garden and Knotweed it in 6 months ha ha. Just a joke by the way, There are allways testing customers out there. Quote on every detail just in case in future cos you never know....
  5. I have the xpg and know 2 mates who also own them and have had carb faults. When they are good they are very very good and when they are bad........ . Mine was mostly bad. BUT, for a load of logs its not to be sniffed at. ( I would still try exchange it for a bomb proof stihl though before the carb problem rears its ugly head).
  6. I own a 357 and you can have it for 1/2 a load. What a s**t saw. I guarantee the carb is faulty. Swap it for a stihl immediatley to save dissapointment. They really are that bad ha ha
  7. Given myself shark gill finger a few times with the silky zubat. And never once was it my fault.:-o
  8. I have just started up this year in the tree work business (But done it for 5 years as an employee of various companies) and was wondering what rules i am bound to if i sub contract work out to people. For example insurance, taxes NI contributions. Im not naive enough to think i can just pass work on and take a slice of the profits but i may also have a great oppurtunity coming my way so dont want to miss out. Your wealth of experince is appreciated guys and gals. Ta.
  9. I have worked on the rail for Martins and Fountains and the cost of all the rules regs and health and safety must be horrendous from what ive seen. The sheer volume of paperwork that has to be spot on or you CANNOT go on site is mind boggling. I never did understand how any of the companies made any money in such a complex operation. Utility arb is another area if you havnt been there allready. I have also done this and the bollocks is much much less that goes with it. Good luck.
  10. North lincs is the place where south humbersiders live in denial ha ha. Almost moved to beverley but houses are too expensive compared. Nice place though from what ive seen (or have i not seen the grot spots)
  11. Just outside sunny scunny 18 stoner. Where u at in this fine province??
  12. From what i have found out on the web people are after straight trunks 6foot and over. If the trunk splits any lower than that they cant make much use of it apparentley. Wood turners may want sections but is it worth the bother.
  13. It may be possible to remove the rootball with the tree attached. Ive searched the web high and low but cant find any price guides. If its worth a bit its worth the hassle but it has to be worth a decent ammount. Any clues to its value are usefull for my plans ta.
  14. I have been asked to take down an old english walnut tree with a 28-30 inch diameter trunk and was wondering if the trunk is sellable rather than ringing it up for firewood. Im in east yorkshire and the buyer would have to collect from site as i have no machinery capable of moving a trunk that large. The trunk reaches about 18ft in height before it begins to stem off. Any rough guestimates on its value are appreciated and if anyone knows an interseted buyer even better. Thanks for looking

Remoulds= People on the job who are not quite up to scratch.
  16. :thumbup1:Has any one else used a 357xpg2005 model and found they cut out and become a pain to start when hot. Ive been told by the repair shop its the carb and a common fault. £100 quoted for a new carb fitted but want to make sure before i get it done as the old "well its a process of elimination and the next job to try will cost..." line grates on me. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
  17. Diesel chainsaws with KERS technology...yeah baby yeah.
  18. Where was his aeriel rescue buddy? Allways risky without one on site.
  19. Im with you on the rain thing ha ha
  20. Hiax every time, they last years if looked after.
  21. Just wondering how long the cutters have been in the game on here??. I have been at it for 6 years now and find it a great job that keeps me fit and out of factories(where i spent many a year doing mundane work). I read a lot of posts on here and some of you guys really know your stuff from some of the things i see written ie(it confuses me ha ha) . How long have you served and when you looking at parole??
  22. I did consider a re-map but the price is hefty compared, and to return to standard settings all i need to do is unplug. The chip can also be turned up and down. I went for a low setting as i could smell the clutches tear's on the higher settings lol
  23. There is a definate noticable improvement in fuel economy on a steady motorway run but on A and B roads the child in me keeps telling me to floor it so im using more derv than aver ha ha. I was dubious about buying one too but like i say, i would recommend these to anyone. I also believe what dean says is true and the engines are down tuned as standard to pass strict EU regs. To hell with the EU i say....and 480nm of torque agrees with me ha ha
  24. Just thought id share my experience of purchasing a diesel tuning chip box from a company called drakebox on ebay. The chip came from italy and is an easy plug and play fitting. I dont believe anywhere on earth can give you so much extra power for £89. I fitted it to my navara dci on 06 plate and holy schmoly the power and torque increases were phenominal. Towing now seems effortless and i would reccomend anyone wanting to spruce up their dci engine try these out. I have tried and tested for a few weeks now with no probs. Go on.........you know you wanna
  25. Thanks for all the replies guys they are all appreciated. Went route one with the saw which was the cheapest and laziest way to start with, i force fed her some petrol down the carb and i think there must have been some debris down there as it now runs perfect again. Sometimes we get lucky eh :-D
