    I think it depends on the species and the age of the timber. I guess we have all been surprised at the weight of the old pallet left out in the rain for weeks.

    So not far from us then most of our customers specialise in selling logs so are most efficient concentrating on that. We don't sell logs but have geared up just to do kindling. You could do some your self and top up with ours if you can't keep up. You should get 250 in a transit van.

    I never know what to tell people starting in kindling. Am I going to continue yes I am, would I start from scratch now the answer would be no. If you cut a pile of 6 in blanks and feed them and bag them yourself you will do about 30 bags an hour. I bet you won't be far behind with a hatchet. The kindlet comes into its own when there are 2 people and the stock going in is on the small side. If you have a good local market I would keep it simple. I would not worry about the supermarkets in a week or so the firewood will be pushed to the back of the store to make way for the Christmas toot. If people can spend a million on a house and 140 k on a Range Rover they don't tend to shop round for things like kindling as the price looks reasonable who knows what a bargain price is for kindling or how much you get in a bag.

    We had the same machine driven by a 3 phase motor it looked like it had the ability to cut the fingers off both hands at the same time. I never bothered and sold it on to some one less cowardly than me.

    Just take them out and drop them in a glass of Pepsi removes everything apparently.

    Buy the right size generator and save the 25 k by not having the hybrid. Run the security from a small diesel lister or an off grid system that charges during the day.

    I put a duct and fan system in our lounge about ten years ago at ceiling height. In these sort of temps of 6 deg outside our 5 kw wood burner near on heats our 3 bed bungalow. Originally it was two bathroom fans from screw fix with two separate 4 in ducts. But upgraded to a couple of better quality fan units from tool shack and some insulated ducting to stop the air cooling as it passes through the loft. One thing that I should mention which I never considered at the time.If the room is well sealed and you don't have the right air brick there is a good chance that you will suck the fumes back down the chimney. when the fire and fans are on you may gas your selves don't rely on a door or window being open

    I have some 4 in beech which I assume was branch wood about 2-3 years old and put in to nets 18 months ago. I find it not as dense as the main trunk goes very light when dry and not as long lasting on a fire. I always found this timber dried quickly in the length but any thing over 10 in would take a couple of years to season in the middle.

    I think you hit the nail on the head Bob. We are planning what to do with our 15 year old because the nanny state wants to keep them in education until 18. He is not really mechanically minded or interested in electrics so I don't want to push him into my industry. since the bored seat polishers got a grip of the h&s culture ie just drag the job out make it difficult and produce a mountain of paper work. I would say this is the reason lots of trade people are giving it up and stacking shelves for minimum wage. It may be £5 an hour less but no responsability and less stress. I would like to see him in an apprenticeship doing something he enjoys and is committed to.

    I worked out if you have logs on tap for your regulars they will never plan ahead. If the weather is mild you will struggle to sell it so the sooner it's gone the better. If it's a hard winter you could have sold ten times as much if you had it.

    I find 6 sharpens on a 20 inch bar and the new file is fit for the bin. I find some of the cheaper chains can be a bit too hard sometimes and give the files a hard time.

    And a for sale sign on the corner. If no one comes forward start adopting it after 7 years I think it's yours. There must be little plots of land every where the owners died in the 70's with no known relatives.

    If the rain covers blow off the 6 in pine blanks we use in the kindlet and they get heavily rained on I would say the weight goes up a third and it takes a good few weeks to dry out.

    On my woodmizer there was an adjustment of the drive wheels left to right but also top to bottom. Sounds like the pressure of the cut keeps the band in place but as you get near the end you reduce the cutting pressure so the band rides forward. The other thing to check is are the bands tensioned right. I may have completely the wrong end of the stick here as can't actually see what's going on

    I wonder if the 7% bio in diesel is part of the problem.

    I run out of diesel this week on the m4 nr the services and was run over by 6 different tree surgeons. Sorry to hear your misfortune vi hopefully you will still be a Good Samaritan in a week or so most people are genuine best to lend a fiver in future.

    I don't think dpfs came in until 2010 some not til 2012. You probably have a cat but the dmax I think has a cat and a dpf.

    It does take a lot of work this blade has lasted since January without a sharpen we were buying German blades which I worked out actually come from China. The teeth fall off and fit for the bin after 2 months. I am thinking of a half moon bath full of solvent then soak it over night befor rotating and sharpen. Ordered a few more blades today so we can rotate them.

    Using an Indy for service should not cause this problem and as long as they are vat registered and use genuine parts they should not be able to duck the warranty claim. I spoke to John hunt in hampshire who are also a serious player in John Deere tractors and know there stuff when it comes to engines. The impression I got is they have cracked the problem which tends to only occur when game keepers and the like idle round fields all day. They pointed out with my towing habits I was highly unlikely to suffer a problem. Having driven the vehicle I decided it definately was not for me even though it's rated to tow 3500 kg. it may be worth talking to the dealer in chilbolton.

    I tried a few things but it seems to have baked on at just the right temperature a wire brush does not even touch it. The machine is pneumatic with auto guide and munches its way through a couple of metres of wood an hour for days at a time. I was looking for that other thread useful read thanks. Guess it's time to try every thing as its steel not much will damage it. Does any one use or own one of those Chinese grinders for sharpening tct blades.

    I have a 450 mm blade in an uncut saw. The wood is all kiln dried pine but the blade is bogging in the cut. The blade looks sharp and as good as new a reasonable quality Bosch blade. But have noticed a build up of resin around the teeth about 2 mm thick. Has any one found a product that removes this easily ?

    Older generators were a bit more over made and able to absorb a bit more heat and abuse. Now every thing is designed by cad and copper is expensive if it says 2 kva it will be. A short circuit trip is useless to prevent overloading your generators a 16 amp trip will stay in until 30 amps if you build it up gradually. Over loading a generator will degrade the insulation in the windings and cause the alternator to fail in a short space of time. I sound like I am giving a lecture

    According to my calcs a good 3kva will do it but a 4 kva is recommended. You will probably damage anything smaller especially if you stall the ram on a knot.

    Because demonstrators go out for 24 hrs and idiots torture them to see if they can be broken. They are used as courtesy cars for disgruntled customers having repairs done. You only loose thousands if you sell straight away if you spread depreciation out over 3 years it's not so bad. I prefer brand fire new

    I had a look today the single phase is a riello 12 kva msm sentry model not 25 as I thought earlier.
