  1. Had a look in my hilux the fan did seem quite vicious but cant find any hi lift high rise air filter thingies or any adjustments. The heater is as hot as hell so will leave it alone I think as there is a label on the engine that says if you feel the need to fiddle with things buy a Landrover
  2. I often produce 2 or 3 cu on a saturday from the chain on the processor. we put it in 80 litre dustbins and get it in a large incinerator about 3 metres long asap before it gets any wetter. You need to mix with joinery of cuts other wise it wil just smoke the place out. We used to cut kiln dried skirting boards on the hakki for kindling production but even this you could not give away. I have even let it compost down then hired a 14 yard skip to get rid of it.
  3. its been the same every year manic for one week in september then steady till mid December Then cant cope till end of Feb. Difference this year is its been mild so the steaming transit compost for £60 has lasted a bit longer. Most people think winter is October to Feb but some years its January to April. I think alot of people round my way have panicked and dump there logs out there to get some turn over rather than profit. I am always happy for half my stock to sit there till next year but we have sold out for the last 5 years.
  4. Yeah thats one way of looking at it. But large firms spend so much time producing paper work and rubber stamping everything when it comes to job time there is nothing left in the pot so they get clueless agency staff in. Does a skilled apprentice served employee need to write or read 2 hrs of guff to carry out a job he has done without incident for 20 years.
  5. Best one I had the last page said we had to send them a cheque for £100 to enable them to process our H&S paperwork. Because I am a bit thick I sent the last page with an invoice for £100 we did not get the job. The idea of all this guff is if anything goes wrong on the job your fault or not they will land it all back in your lap because you did not read the small print before you signed your life away.
  6. Some of these courses are really good for school leavers as they start from the bottom and work up. The government should make them free to the under 20's. But when they charge hundreds of pounds they are a revenue collector. Remember when you were at school and teacher gave the geek a gold star and he walked about proud as punch showing his mummy. Well those kids grew up and revel in pointless legislation ie burning licence, waste carriers licence, cscs, operators licence for small trailers etc etc. Its a shame somthing as worthwhile as basic chainsaw use needs to be so expensive. 5 people on a 2 day course at £200 is £1000 2 a week and they could go to the golf course friday.
  7. I decided not to bother this year as price delivered in was £55 a metre + vat. This makes a loose cubic metre of firewood will cost me £35 before I use the red the white the petrol and 35k worth of equipment. Luckily I bought a few loads in just to satisfy the caveman in me and stop the kit rusting up. I have seen 1 cu advertised locally for £48. That would leave me with about a £1 an hour I will let them crack on and see what happens in January before I order cord for next year.
  8. I have never used it but the oregon stuff is ok. Why is there always so much black crud at the bottom of the stihl stuff.
  9. I have run 3500kg for 18 years in my own business. We used to loose avon tyres all the time and Mich werent much better. I remember throwing my dummy when only the far east were making trailer tyres. But I have to take it back as since running maximilers and trailer max not had a problem in 10 years. I dont think we run your size and run the later ifor williams stuff. I think our tyres look skinner than yours but I remember there was some problems with early ifor blowing tyres. Funny thing is we only ever lost tyres on the way back from scotland when we were empty we assumed the speed rather than weight goosed the tyres.
  10. Same as before only if i get a fine will put another fiver on a load of logs in January. Any more stupid laws we may as well run on red, ditch the tax, mot and insurance.
  11. That would be ideal for splitting big rings in half so we can lift them. The machine would be very light as it looks mostly alloy. Would need to be cheap as I am a skin flint.
  12. I spent 4 years training as an apprentice engineer the skilled men I worked with ingrained alot of training and common sense which has kept me safe. now 20 years on I find it offensive when I have to spend 30 mins answering idiot multiple choice questions designed for people that recently entered the country. This is just so I can enter a building site. Good quality training is worth its wait in gold and more often than not is given whilst on the job. Alot of the training offered at the moment seems expensive and often irrelevant.
  13. Just wind your necks in if you cant say something nice dont say anything
  14. Had a clear out last week of redundant equipment put it on ebay. Sold 4 items came to nearly 5k . Free listing again this weekend time for another 15. Weather getting colder I can feel some sales com:thumbup1:ing on.
  15. If you show up at slough power station with bits of mdf in the load they will reject the whole lot. I would imagine these light weight bricks coming out of joinery shops are full of mdf chipboard and glue in alot of cases. I would purchase from someone who controls what goes in.
  16. I dont think this about misunderstandings. In a lot of cases its hostile arrogance. There not much of it and only from a few. Those that give it out cant take it. If I get a wiff of a problem I let thread go dead, who needs a fight on a forum. I am here to help others and ask advice hopefully forgeing a few friendships along the way
  17. Hi chris if you send me a pm personal message I will send you a quote or email me at [email protected] Thanks Steve

  18. I now tread extremely carefully on here and avoid threads with certain people on. I carefully read what i post to avoid causeing offence. I think society in general is having a tough time at the moment and this comes out in many different ways. On the whole there is some really great people on here but I have at times thought of having a 3 month holiday from arb talk but would miss keeping touch with a great bunch of people. On the other hand I may be one of the naughty ones I think if 100 regular forum users met up for the first time they would form totally different opinions of ea other some better some not so good. When you mean something it does not always come across the same when written.
  19. Sounds like a good plan to me 5 tonne of mixed arb waste for £320 does anybody need some in Hampshire.
  20. At £6 ea go for both if available as steve says. If you dont get both someonelse may grab the other one.
  21. My log splitter is trailer mounted with honda engine about £2500 worth of proper kit which works a treat. I will leave that as it is I was thinking more £300 junk from auction somewhere. Needs to be easy to get on and off as bobcat has lots of other duties. Its just to knock down the stuff that is over 16" to something that can be picked up. If I put something together will put pic up.
  22. Give it a try after 5 years of beating your fingers off you will be an expert. I would avoid paying money for willow or low value firewoods as you will struggle to sell. If its ash or beech bargain even if its knotty.
  23. 1 feed and return
  24. These are all good ideas. I am thinking a bit out of my budget. The bobcat processor seems to jam alot considering the logs are around 18in. The problem we have is with all the log burners we need to do alot 8-10in logs. Larger cord is more plentiful and better value for money material wise as you get better conversion but its high on labour costs. We may just produce a log splitter layed on its side and roll the rings into it. Most are 24in + beech but they do split in half easily.
  25. Glad to here they are selling when the frosts hit they should really fly. Good luck with building the new store. Look forward to seeing you again.
