  1. Old harry packed up last year when cord got expensive because he was charging £60 a metre and had no money to re invest. 2cu metres for £300 I think certainly wood have a fair way to go yet. This the second post this week something tells me they are getting free adverts on here do they advertise in the arb directory ? or just get employees to put posts up.
  2. If you have the space I would keep on going as you are sounds more proffessional than mine.
  3. Spot on if I get a log that struggles to burn I split and measure and often as not its 25% in the middle. I have found 15-20% perfect 20-25% difficult over 25% forget it.
  4. Over the last 20 years I have had diaries for police, firemen, directories for hospitals, nhs, nursing homes, you name it we had it. The police one made out if we subscribed we would get a better responce and if we did not it would be worse and the call centre bunnies are always in Warrington.
  5. Dont shoot me but in my experience the logs that I have let fully season for a year and left in a heap without cover burn the best. They may be black and wet when delivered but within a few days of being put in a wood store the rain water will be gone. People who have been burning wood for years know the score. People who have just had a 6 inch wood burner fitted may not. Then you need to deliver bone dry cream coloured logs that have been barn stored and covered during transport. Its more a case of picking your customers rather than them picking you
  6. the td5 should be a clean engine even without a cat you may have other problems.
  7. Cpl are widespread but not everywhere. You dont need many regulars to keep busy when you first start up. Gives you the chance to learn with smaller mistakes while you fine tune things. I dont know who your up against in wales but smg often seems to talk sense ( more than me anyway ) and sounds like he has good local knowledge. I dont remember ever supplying kindling to Wales or even being asked but just assumed Kindlet and co supplied that area.
  8. Look for small independant garages within a couple of miles. Wholesale at £2.50 a bag delivered. Often small garages shift 100 bags a week in depth of winter.
  9. I agree but I tend to spend the extra £5 a corner and get the BFG's as they do twice the mileage dont crack on the side walls after 5 years or go out of shape. I would prefer AT's but we are on a hill and by christmas the field will be a ft deep in slimey mud. We can just get out loaded with MT's in all weathers.
  10. Yeah its called a tread mill often your allowed of early if you die. You cant get ill the country cant afford it. There are a few people who could do with a turn on the treadmill in this country.
  11. Your right it is flawed when you look at the first 35k . But then we are vat registered so dont give it much thought these days. If you have alot of commercial customers buy new toys and buy cord to do logs go vat registered. Hows that
  12. No but if you spend £100 inc vat you get £20 back on vat, leaves £80 if you pay 25% tax it costs you £60 or if 40% tax will cost about £48 If Your not vat reg £100 less 25% means £75 . But if you are approaching the vat limit you are probably paying 40% tax so £100 less 40% = £60 so you are no worse off than a vat reg person only paying 25% tax
  13. That is a good point that alot of people overlook. The 20% does not just disappear you can claim that against income tax although you will have to wait a year not 3 months.
  14. So far so good but only got them in January so would not want to fully recommend until cutting green timber into them now. The only problem I can see is green timber may go mouldy if stored in them now. I dont think there is much in it robs look good and probably better airflow. I went for mine because they are 1.5 cu metres so dont need to stop processor so often. The only down side is cant lift them with bobcat when green so need teleporter. 500 is alot of bags if they dont work out. I would consider paying for 25 and trying first even if premium price.
  15. I would have thought you still need to class your bags as loose loads same as your tipper. The logs are not stacked in the bag to eliminate air space are they ?
  16. Your bags look tougher than the ones I see a year ago. I think they are bringing new ideas in all the time. I bought my bags as its alot cheaper than putting another building up.
  17. I thought ag reg you need to stay within 30 miles of base. For forestry you can go country wide.
  18. The TT105 would be good as it grosses at 3.5 tonne and is low to the ground for a tipper. Tipping trailers are not ideal for plant as they are a bit high.
  19. You can only get 1.44 cu metres with normal sides in a TT85 . You are all talking about the 10x5 which carries 2 cu metres to top of ifor drop sides. I know cos got both.
  20. I use airstripe 1.5 cu metre bags. i have so far processed into them during the summer. I have the feeling as we process through the winter for next year we may get some mould problems. Someone told me to only put 3 a breast into the wind which we have done. I also do brick pattern rather than in line. Those mesh sided bags dont look very robust to me. Some of my bags have been tipped 3 times and still look new.
  21. Think of an auction as a big shop if you dont bid the price tag its not going home with you. I love auctions I dont sell my used generators to the public any more. I put a 17 kva in an auction with a reserve of £800 it sold for £2800 and I thought there was only one person bidding which was confirmed by the auctioneer when he said I didnt think he was ever going to stop. I bid to a price I think is a bargain if I think its being run off the wall I dive out the crowd and listen to it stall.
  22. I wood try local log sellers. Trying to sell to large companies all eggs in one basket, rock bottom price and they dont answer the phone especially when they owe you thousands.
  23. Cheap teleporter jcb 525 1986 for 4k cheap tractor 80hp 2.5k then you can load your processor at the same time for 6 grand all in. I have a tractor with loader never used it in 6 years too clumsy and slow.
  24. Yes and I think because of the glorious weather we have had a few people are getting shakey just wait till next week
  25. BFG Mud terrain excellent but high price. Would defo pay the price again if they ever wear out.
