    Unimog

Does anyone know which mogs have a gross train weight of 24,000kg . Someone did send me some charts for a 425 but did not make much sense to me. I have a feeling i read somewhere the u1000 is only 12,000kg and the main reason for a mog is to tow my loaded 14,000kg trailer.
  2. great tips so far. I have a suspicion that some genuine manufacturers parts are being made with less quality than they should in china. As the economy struggles manufacturers will be under pressure to dump stock for machines out of manufacture 7 years ago. Modifying bodging and improving will be more usefull than ever.
  3. Hilux 2.4 non turbo upto 1997 slow even solo and will struggle on motorway hills built like brick privvy hilux 2.4 turbo upto 2001 ( our tipper ) pulls at 70 even fully loaded I would not tow with ours 170k engine getting tired and gets hot solo above 70mph. Dreadfull on fuel 24mpg but would not be without it. Still reasonable build quality hilux d4d 100bhp just about adequate for towing but excellent on fuel 35mpg or more if careful. Mk 5 still reasonable build quality with better engine. hilux d4d 130hp Mk 6 good for towing. Dont know about fuel. Had a demo one was not keen, felt big with hard suspension noisey and revvy in the cab for a 25k motor. Well finished with some quality nowhere near as tough as original hilux. For some reason the single cabs only have a load margin of 700kg the extra cab and double cab nearly 1100kg. My choice would be a Mk 5 extra cab with d4d engine. Or I would try a isuzu Rodeo the rest I personally would not even look at no matter how cheap.
  4. Not looking for the most dangerous just most useful. I spent the day doing some much needed maintenance on our Hakki pilki 2x after the gland unscrewed from the piston. After 2 hours of logging at 12.15 saturday the saw bar return spring snaps ( 2nd genuine one in 6 months ) of course all engineering shops shut at 12. Went to the local guy who repairs washing machines and robbed all the scrap machines. 2 bosch springs linked together works a treat. Another occasion fitted a new pump drive rubber element ( genuine ) lasted 30 mins. Now have a tougher pattern unit fitted.
  5. We have had a 2x for the last 6 years. near on rebuilt it this week. It will stonk out some serious wood for you but it works best between 4-9 inch . If you get 250mm timber in 3 metre lengths do your backs and feed conveyour a favour and cut it to 1m lengths. You will be able to do an 8 hour day and repeat the next day. Two of us run the machine alternating between prep and operating.
  6. As the owner of the business with experience in operating the processor I would say you are the person to carry out on the job training. I would spend a minimum of 40 hrs working the machine together. Give him 1/2 hour bursts on the controls after this the concentration goes out the window. Document the progress and when you feel he is safe and confident put him with your other employee. A processor is quite a complicated machine when you first start of I always think its abit like patting your head and rubbing your stomach at the same time.
  7. I use oregon bars on my processor. They get a total dogs life and I never grease them the bar wears before the nose. I think the grease stops the oil getting to the bearings
  8. especially during the midnight feeds
  9. Lots of new adverts round here boys determined to give the stuff away. Taking it easy now wait till its all gone in December then away we go.
  10. I would go down scats and get them to order you a stihl moisture meter about £10 + vat at least it has a name on it I used one the other day and it was ok.
  11. When you get your tractor insurance make sure you tell them you are moving trees as they call it because standard ag tractor policy does not cover you.
  12. I made an assumption that it would be a forestry trailer with maybe one axle braked which would weigh about 10 tonne loaded tops. Maybe I am wrong. I put 10 tonnes on this and you know its behind you even with airbrakes.
  13. by the time you pay for the hire, the fuel, the insurance and costed your time running 7 tonnes of timber about it would be cheaper to pay haulage.
  14. I think we all know about the tacho laws. But when you buy a new vehicle you tend to leave the old stuff in the old truck. So whether its got one or not I dont think he wants the hassle again. Even a digi one will set you back £800 . I cant remember all the sad guff that goes with this stupid bit of regulation but if you keep under a certain gross train weight you dont need it.
  15. You need it and it adds another £1000 to the price.
  16. They charged £1450.00 to supply and fit draw bar inc alot of work just in front of axle not shown. During the winter they are a bit quieter and welcome work to keep the workshop busy.
  17. Do you know someone with a uninsured tractor. Or buy something with a number plate for £200. Weigh it in when finished. I have nfu on a £3000 jd when I hire a £80,000 tractor costs about an extra £10 for the week. Insurance is £150 a year
  18. I would say your problem is going to be lack of ground. I manage to cover an acre with junk used to process logs. To earn a living i think you will need at least 1/2 an acre securely fenced so you can pile up cord. I would say £30 a week but if you had yard with it £100 . Filling that shed with seasoned logs will barely cover the years rent. But if you had a 100 or so vent bags outside it would be a nice little set up.
  19. I use raymond brown a 14 yard ro ro skip costs about £200 . The important thing is to tell them its all inert. Ie soil chip or timber green waste. Dont put any rubbish in skip or you will be charged £80 a tonne.
  20. I think the rodeo is one of the best pick ups made now. I bet we dont see many navaras or L200 do that mileage in 5 years without major works.
  21. I see these bags last winter. Our local garden centre even commented, ' all our hardwood logs come from sustainable pine forrests '
  22. Thats because they are so dry
  23. I think i prefer the 1x37 hakki pilki or our 2x . I dont think I could loose the powered in feed conveyor especially with 3m metre 300mm stuff.
  24. A loose loaded cubic meter weighs 350kg approx when dry. 350kg div 20kg = 17.5 bags at £6 = £105 a cubic metre people charge this for a loose load and dont need to spend an hour stuffing nets. We get asked for bags wholesale for £3 x 17.5 = £52.50 a metre we dont do wholesale We sell 10kg nets at the gate for £5 = £175.00
  25. I would talk to fuelwood first and get a new price first. i was talking to them at apf last year and the machine on the stand was 5k + vat.
