  1. I have used something for the last 15 years called Time and chaos I just did a search and its still out there free. A brilliant easy to use package that has a to do list. I print them off and when getting out of date bin them. I totally empty my mind and just follow the list and change priority if needed according to the weather. If it does not get done it either was not a priority or I did not have the time simples.
  2. If anyone knows of some in the south I would be interested. Some are better than others for logs. There does not seem to be many on ebay.
  3. check the chain tension does not alter between bar up and bar down. If its ok cutting then does the oil stop flowing with bar up, is the feed hose too long causing an air lock, is it trapped or kinked. Not sure about 1x37 but our 2x runs with 1.5mm chain not the 1.6 stihl . You can get it to fit on a worn bar but not new. Have you gone from mineral bar oil to bio. Some ideas but I am probably miles out. If it stops mid cut then try sharpening the chain on a bench grinder.
  4. If you mounted this in the corner of a 16ft trailer could you pull the bags to it. Maybe the 800x800x800 bags would be better only .56 a cube but they could take 2 at a time.
  5. We used to do a similar thing with our splitter. Needed a 20 kva to run it 3ph. Its now running direct drive from a 11hp honda petrol. I would run the dalen from a small diesel engine. The mechanical losses of generating electric then turning it back to mechanical movement are very high.
  6. Need some ram seals. Was warming to it over the weekend thinking its actually managed over 50 hrs running without falling to bits when it peed on my boots. Has anyone sourced some pattern seals. I would be interested in a box of spares since I seem to have broken most things on it we must be on the way round again.
  7. Sycamore grows well round here best to grow species that thrive. I cut a sycamore back to stump 4 years later its 20 feet high again. They are sproating out the side of the foundation on my workshop.
  8. This is the busiest we have ever been in September. But things go quiet for us until end of November then goes nuts in dec Jan.
  9. One possibility is someone is taking the wood for logs and offsetting the cost. I process cordwood and occassionally take timber away for tree surgeons but have never and dont want to fell a tree.
  10. At the risk of sounding sexist firstly you need a good woman then you need a kindlet. My wife runs the kindlet and sells wholesale in arbtalk directory. There is no heavy work involved and you can stop and start with the flick of a switch. If you sell wholesale which you need to do to pay for the kindlet the margins are so small you would not want to be distracted from log processing. Better to find someone local doing wholesale and just double your money for no effort.
  11. We need to pay £1.40 a litre for tractor diesel because the bankers will need their next bonus payout at chritmas and the politicians need paint for their duck houses.
  12. I had this bio stuff last winter and my Bobcat waxed on at least 6 occassions. Been running on same fuel until a few weeks ago without changing filters. Once the cold weather went never had any more trouble.
  13. You can still get the old gas oil or red as its known. It is starting to get harder to find but will always be available for gensets and fire pumps. The new red gives more power and burns cleaner just needs to be stored really well.
  14. We have a 2x and it struggles with stuff over 9". If you have a good fast vertical splitter I would get stuck in with that. If you have beech and syc it should dry by christmas especially if we get some sun and you leave it out. If we get the winter they are promising you will probably have the driest wood for miles around.
  15. The diesel we use in our cars and the new red have a shelf life of 20 days. thats why we dont use it in emergency diesel generators.
  16. I like the guild of master craftsman the only quality you need is £95 cash. Or the check a trade or should that be cheque from my trade. I am sure you can start your own with very little legislation bit like cosmetic surgery. Think of all redundancy cheques floating about.
  17. Stihl now do one for £10 digi read out dont know if its any good, friend just bought one will let you know
  18. I thought it was so alot of fat blokes in their 50's who never done a days work in their lives could live in their big houses and buy new mercs every year.
  19. My vote would be mould. Tin sheet with open sides they will carry on seasoning slowly for a few more weeks.
  20. Sweet chestnut spits. Horse chestnut I dont think does. I had some horse that had fallen over for around 5 years bone dry and very light to pick up but burnt a treat, I would say as good as beech. For some reason not as well thought of as some firewood.
  21. Thats interesting as I have been put off the palax which I think may be better quality due to lack of powered in feed belt. I would imagine with rough treatment the belts could be damaged is it much effort to pull the timber in by hand.
  22. The other way I look at it is leave the business for another log man in the area who maybe is better set up for smaller logs or is a bit quiet at the moment. I am happy to wait till December when people are less fussy and its easy to sell 50 cu metres a week of nice dry logs when everywhere has run out.
  23. Yes our machine is really 10" minimum if you cut smaller there is more saw dust, takes more time, uses more diesel, creates more trash. And they get more logs in the tipper. £15 more or we sell them hot max bricks.
  24. Dont give them ideas. There is enough licences and legislation to avoid and gloss over and show total disregard for as it is.
  25. I cant take credit for the fabrication as it was done by cherries. The crane repairs and brakes were all mine and I have the cuts to prove.
