  1. Things must be quite if you have time to count logs. When the snow hits we dont have time to count the loads let alone the logs. Things are slow here the recession and weather I dont think are helping.
  2. The test for flu is if you are laid in bed and the house catches fire if you run out you have a cold if you crawl on hands and knees you have flu. Prevention is better than cure . Healthy seasonal veg, sleep, and keep away from general public especially in offices. Keep away from shopping trolleys and door handles. If one of my kids gets a sniff I pop a zinc pill and possibly an ecinachure but no more than 2 a week. works for me
  3. Most pickups are good but I only have luck with the hilux. 2.4 na very slow 2.4td much better but heavy on fuel. d4d good engine but think you will struggle to find a mk5 for that sort of money.
  4. It could be loads of different things including all those above. I would look at fuel system as well sounds like fuel runs back to tank over night causing air lock. If you spin it over in morning and leave for 30 mins the pressure from cranking bleeds system then it starts. Check for blocked fuel filter and minute air leaks in pipe work faulty lift pump hand primer etc. Rusty fuel lines. fuel leaks.
  5. Mike I like that log deck. I would imagine with 42cm butts you need three motors. Some good ideas for our underworked trailer
  6. I had some 12" ash cord I cut it into 2ft lengths 2 years previous to last winter just in case I needed it for my house. When it came time to log it was 38% in the middle. Proves it needs splitting to open up the heart wood. The fastest wood I have experienced for seasoning is beech which depending on when its cut can take a couple of months to dry in the summer. Once the ambient temperature drops below 14 deg the seasoning really slows up.
  7. I dont think there is an easy solution. My answer was large polytunnel bobcat concrete base and bund sides. About 15k all in. We did find a half way house with a cheap forklift and ibc containers. Make a drop down flap in the containers. Load the top half in to truck without bending down. When half way down box drop front and raise forklift. Its still hand loading but cuts out the bending which is the killer bit.
  8. I have 2 ms 039 one on 3/8 chain the other .325 The smaller chain gives a bit more power but blunts quicker.
  9. I have a 2x I would make sure the 3 drive belts are tight and not oily. Then check the oil filter in the top of tank. Make sure the rams are not leaking through the little brass breather on the ram. Your hyd pump may be worn or you may just be over loading it ( its only 4 or 5 tonne ) . Check the clutch plates dont slip on the tractor pto. If you get notty bits try to slit the end furthest from knot or chuck to one side and use vertical 10 tonne splitter. Thats all I can think of at the moment not sure if there is a relief valve on the machine.
  10. The well prepared get it April the prepared get it in september. The rest will be along after the clocks go back and the weather breaks. It makes the job so much easier reversing up in the dark at 3.30pm in a gale.
  11. Dont know which machine to recommend but log decks and conveyors make the job so much easier.
  12. I cant remember seeing any but they will make them for you but if coming from china expect to wait 6 months. You could try mca kingstone in Winchester. What is your idea for the smaller bags easier handling ?
  13. I think timber is the new gold to some people mainly domestic customers who think the stuff cuts itself into nice 10" fully seasoned lumps while you are sleeping. Processors are free and never break, cherry is 10p a litre and you go to the food bank to feed your kids. Luckily its only 2% of the population and they are easy to spot big house 4x4 volvo in drive.
  14. I had a trailer built with 10 tonne crane to carry 10 tonnes of cord. Problem is very few arb jobs produce cord. I have had very little work for it in this line. I use the trailer to jump on cord when its the right price. There was a grain trailer on ebay with the front cut down and a crane on the front this may be better. Alot of arb jobs are in the back garden so 2ft buts get chogged down in 12" rings and trolleyed out to the front. I have been offered arb waste for £35 a tonne roadside which sadly I have declined in the past because I cant make a living out out of 3ft rings of horse chestnut when I can buy nice straight cord which goes through the processor 3 times faster.
  15. I am building a machine to cut planned timber for our kindlett. I opted to buy a new automatic up cut machine then fit a pneumatic guide and fit a used conveyor all now spread around the workshop will be working in a week or so. Point I am making is buy a couple of used machines and make what you want rather than starting from scratch.
  16. Did you get your nice new ms 88 back the one they did not issue the receipt for. Where did they dump the fuel from the saw. If I stood in the road emptying one of my saws in the gutter I would be arrested several times over.
  17. If I had been splitting firewood for 35 years I would be knackered. When you are middle aged you are entitled to buy a decent engine driven splitter.
  18. another vote for the fourtack rated to tow 3.5 tonne and the clutch is up to the job low geared for pulling. 3.1 troopers are good if you go for a later 3.0liter get it really well checked out as they could be expensive trouble.
  19. This is almost identical to us we go 7 miles max 10 if pushed and its an easy run. 20 miles each way and you loose an hour which needs to be at least £20.
  20. No although I have good engineering skills from 20 years in the job I think you need that experience to realise how much time and development goes into a hard worked piece of machinery like a processor. Save yourself alot of time and money and buy something of the shelf. We run our processor of a 1000 pto with tractor ticking over. Red diesel is half the price and goes alot further than petrol as joy said. I dont think you are going to get a big processor on a trailer running on petrol. The Hakki pilki x42 is a huge piece of kit.
  21. The review idea is only any good if there is some slightly negative or constructive comments. But I cant see them staying on there long can you
  22. I sit completely on the fence. And have no views on people until I have met and known them for some time. But I will say that houses cost a fortune now and mortgages hard to come by. Jobs are getting scarce and social houses are few and far between. What are working class people going to do in the future. I know society needs rules to live by but they seem to be made up by a small upper class part of society for there own ends. Should people have to live by OUR rules. Especially the one that says I have to pay £170 a month rates:sneaky2:
  23. Sorry michael stupid thing to put on my part. It just gets up my nose when a large company that gained a grant of a million quid two years ago makes life hard for the small man on here. It does not really bother us because we are more into Kindling than logs. I spent 15 years competeing for generator sales against a company in ireland that ws proped up by the british tax payer. So I can see it coming again.
  24. Old harry packed up last year when cord got expensive because he was charging £60 a metre and had no money to re invest. 2cu metres for £300 I think certainly wood have a fair way to go yet. This the second post this week something tells me they are getting free adverts on here do they advertise in the arb directory ? or just get employees to put posts up.
  25. If you have the space I would keep on going as you are sounds more proffessional than mine.
