A farmer up the road has a hilux registered as ag. He uses it a couple of weeks a year during harvest apparently once ag you cant go back to plg ?

It took a long time to get to a £1 a litre and there was alot of noise. But it has not taken long to go up by 50% has it and it hurts more because of the economic climate.

This looks like sound advice just dont get into a punch up. I like the idea of sending court papers without paying for them have done this before with good result. I dont see why if you are owed money with slim chance of recovery why you should pay the government more money up front. -
Vosa have been prosecuting people over the last few years if the trailer was plated and had the potential when loaded to exceed the vehicle gross train weight even if it was empty. Same as post 97 drivers cant get caught with a big trailer even if it weighs less than 750 when empty.

I think it is a 2600kg gross trailer and the dc only towed 2000kg.

I read somewhere in the last few weeks that vosa are now weighing vehicle and trailer if its under 3500kg you may be ok irrespective of whats on the trailer plate. Do some reasearch and dont listen to what I say I am normally nosey but wrong. We have a trailer in the yard which was plated down to 2000kg so it could go behind a double cabs. Not by us we only have mansize 4x4s

Your right about the general suspicion thing. Quote some of the middle classes a price more than minimum wage and often you will see the distrusting look. Often I think there is a need for contractor protection let alone consumer protection. -

so to sum up old gits like me who pissed their test before 1997 can tow 3500kg behind a discovery can carry on till we loose our marbles or in my case 2038 which ever is the sooner:biggrin:

I would say the seller is expecting a bill for £80 battery and £60 circuit board. I dont think he will be expecting it to go to a main dealer to be returned to new condition. With a private sale its normally sold as seen.

Ok ROG I am not up on all this guff, do you train people to pass their trailer test. If so you can tell us for certain. I passed my car driving test in 1986 and have entitlement to drive B+E up to 3500kg with heavy trailer but also I have c1 +E vehicles between 3500kg and 7500kg with a trailer over 750kg not exceeding 12000kg

If you past your test after 1997 and tow a trailer over 750kg and have not taken the additional test you are breaking the law and are not insured while doing so.

Why will you have to do it eventually. Nothing says or even hints at that. The more we accept with out argument money making legislation the more they will put on us. I would think dvla would be better off targeting all the illegal immigrants driving about with no licence or insurance.

Thought I read some where timber dries an inch every 6 months so a large ring that is 12 in thick will take years whereas if its 12in X 4in will be near on dry in a year.

Perhaps after driving over a milion miles in 20 years alot of that towing 3500kg I should give up the logs and teach people to reverse a trailer. But then I would be a sad old git towing a halfords trailer with a corsa round an industrial estate. But then I suppose it creates employment for driving instructors put out to grass and DVLA call centre bunnies that retired early with a good pension but still greedy enough to leech off working people Rant over.

I just fitted a hamlet in the office made in dorset or devon I think. The old stove used to munch through a large basket of logs a day not giving a great deal of heat. The new stove uses 5 logs a day and we need to open the door basket last 4-5 days now. It has some sort of double burn system. Scats were clearing them at £400 list price is £700.

It does not say gross train weight it says gross weight of trailer. You are getting confused with tacho law. It also says If you already have a licence to drive cars or small vehicles (category B and BE), you'll keep your entitlement to tow trailers. Your entitlement to tow trailers will stay as it was when you passed your driving test. Or to put it another way if you are old like me nothing changes and our insurance is much cheaper as well but look on the bright side you have youth on your side. lasses may have to take the test because they passed after 1997

I cant see many people tow trailers over 3500kg unless they are using a lorry. Max towing weight for discoveries rr and defenders is 3500kg unless fitted with air brakes. ?

We have a sheppach ox 9 or something about 10 tonne. German made was 3ph now running off a 11hp honda petrol engine. We sometimes stall the engine on nasty bits so will fit a bigger engine sometime. Important to me speed rather than excessive power. ours will do 1115mm long, we have tried billets but did not work for us as we do not have a saw bench just used to bung through processor seemed like alot of double handling big stuff we chain to 10" then lift onto stool. We have a removeable stool so can cut rings on the floor. Came with a 4 way which either gets stuck or smashes beech into trash so dont use it. The auto return with adjustable stops is excellent. Does not do horizontal but if I went for that would spend 15k and get a 30 tonne machine with log lift.

So far we have only used untreated new pine construction timber. Fully seasoned joinery off cuts that would otherwise be Land filled or used for power stations. As long as we can keep up with demand we will not use round timber.
