  1. I would find someone near you and make alot of money reselling. By the time you have collected the hire machine and paid for it. bought the cordwood Spent a day preparing enough timber to 6in then another day trying to get 300 bags out of the machine. £200 for a 1000 bags it may not add up. I think Logbaron is closer to you than we are. We are based in Hampshire and the transport will kill it.
  2. Depends what species it is and how green it is to how many cube of loose logs you get.
  3. I have loads of head torches all cheap chinese copies all do a fair job. Just bought one made by Ring for £5 supper bright and lasts for 1000 hrs cant imagine spending alot more money. mine tend to get lost squashed or covered in diesel.
  4. Is the pump up to spec is the ram leaking inside
  5. Glad you found the problem I have come across this fault many times and often its a layer of corrosion on the battery terminals take of and clean well. We use battery terminal spray gets in there and neutralises the acid as well. And does not catch fire like grease.
  6. If you still have problems check to see if you have knocked a balance weight of the prop I did have details for a company that rebalanced one of our props not far away.
  7. I like the ms460 plenty of grunt not too heavy and no electronics yet. Robust proven technology. I get alot of 13" - 18" timber and a 660 may be a bit heavy for that all day. The 460 with 18" bar and 25" would do most of what I need.
  8. One of my sayings now for 20 years is if I get too busy with work I find I dont have time to make money.
  9. I would have thought £250- £300 was enough depends on how much timber you get out its got to be worth it for both sides. My processor is one tool I would not lend out its amazing the amount of damage people do until in tune with the kit. I would buy a used 1x37 for 4k and keep it in a shed when not used that way it will be worth the same in 5 years time.
  10. I tried to have a peek at a huskey yesterday but the dealer did not have much just little garden things. If the vibs are lower and it does as good a job if not better might have a huskey for a change Jon.
  11. When your in your 20s building a business and trying to pay a mortgage you can work long hours and goes with the territory. Problem comes when you get in your 30s and 40s and you have children. Need a better work life balance or family life suffers. Most people who run a business and are earning a good wage work longer than they realise. It can be difficult to turn off I sometimes find my self online ordering parts at 10pm for kit and vehicles and dont count this as work.
  12. Yes its a no brainer we are vat reg so get 20% back straight away then 25% of the tax bill. After this winter I have alot of arguments to pack up logs and concentrate on generators and kindling. Unless you get the wood very cheap or free or are huge into kiln drying I think its abit of a waste of time. 80% of your turnover can quickly go in cost.
  13. I got side tracked and bought a Bultaco Matador 250 only joking not had time to sort something yet. I was ringing 3ft beech this week with the ms390 thinking I need to do something. Need to change my tom tom and get french maps as well but all new stuff now seems to be worse than the old, a product of a world recession maybe. Some stihls are bad news and some huskeys you seem to need to do research before spending to avoid a pup. You would have thought with modern tech spending £500 should buy u the bees knees.
  14. Looks like a good place to build 50 three story town houses unfortunately now you will have to give 20 of them to the council.
  15. Sounds like a good idea selling water is always good for profits.
  16. I dont get resin so I assume thats because we only cross cut semi seasoned hardwood. Does cutting dry hard wood remove it.
  17. I am interested to hear how u get on I only need a bigger saw for 4 hrs about once a month. I can get round the problem if it means spending £700 but the convience of having a saw that cost less than £500 would be usefull if its any good.
  18. Knock up sump guard type arrangement it wont stop them but they will need to make some noise before they unbolt or pipe cut the cat.
  19. Keep your eyes open for a used cat so you can stick it back on for the ticket.I think They have changed the rules this year if it had one new it needs one now. Unfortunately.
  20. I am only guessing here but it needs to gross under 3500kg and weighs 2500kg empty. 6 blokes weigh 600kg before mc donalds. Most transit dc must have a small pile of scalpings weighing 2000kg on the back. So added up = 5100kg which to an insurance company = risk. After getting checked and weighed in our new vito several years ago we were having a laugh with a vosa man and asked what they were looking for and his reply was. Transit double cab always well overloaded and normally has bad fractures on the chassis just behind the cab, great vehicle but people use them as 7 tonners.
  21. So with plan B in place I just need to decide between a 460 or a 660 or a 576xp or a 7900 makita . I have used a 460 and 660 so just need to try a 576 and a 7900. Thanks for all the advice believe it or not I am actually getting closer to buying a shiney new toy
  22. Hi Adam if you have your 66 available and a spare day we could go for plan B again.
  23. Useful info thanks. I have a 260 for small stuff Ms 390 for 18" stuff. I would like a bigger saw with 25" bar for the2- 3ft stuff, maybe with spare 16" bar am thinking that the vibs should not be too much of a problem as I generally only use a saw a day a week and the big saw would only be used 1/2 a day every few weeks.
