I will see how good I get with the lt15. It looks like a lombardini engine were they ok in the 90's on a saw. They were poor for a Genset.

I find those 25litre drums good value for money and fully compliant with our kis method statement.

I did not realise they were 32k put that like that I see why. How much quicker do you think it would be than our little lt15 especially if no accuracy is needed.

I would imagine people have more experience of softwood as you go further north and therefore more accepting. I am sure logs are good business in some areas but I have kept the price to £80 a metre for 2 winters now as people around me are doing 3 cu metre loads for £140. If I could get £120 a metre I may have carried on. The beech timber I am selling cost me £35 a tonne 2 years ago and even at that I dont see the point. Softwood delivered in for £35 a tonne is nuts and it has only reached that price because of all the subsidies to the big boys. There will be a shortage of hardwood this winter because none has been cut because they cant get £55 a tonne for it. I was looking for softwood to turn into kindling but was quoted £35 a tonne road side by the time I plank it cross cut it and kindle it may as well stay indoors with feet up Plan B is poplar at roadside for £15 a tonne but needs to be around 18" in diameter. J I would think about shopping around for some ash as its more desirable and may take less to dry out as its drier to begin with. Putting your efforts in to a more premium material to begin with may show a better return at the end and its not alot more money to start with.

If someone else gets the wood and puts the labour in to making and bagging it for £3 a bag you then sell for £6 a bag. Unless you know you have a good proven market for it I would not spend 10k on equipment to try and squeeze another 50p out a bag.

I would do 4 bags if it flys out do another 20 then recheck your costings. logs often take longer than you think. Logs as a side line when you get enough free wood is normally good, it just goes down hill when you start buying in timber to meet demand. I found as things got busy I had less time to quote and pursue proper work.

Is 12,000 cheap for one of those. I dont know alot about them as you know big J it looks like its been outside for 15 years.

we have sold a briquette made just down the road from us for about 4 years. We always have a bucket next to the stove ideal for fast start ups and when the fire is almost out to get going again. We have some customers that love them but most are either resistant to using them or hate them. Everyone loves a log. The company that makes ours spent alot of money on their machine which gets serviced regularly and in the space of a month will fill twenty arctics for the power station alone. They are slow sellers by a ratio of about 300 to one on logs. I sometimes throw some mad money at a crazy project that looks slim on profit. A briquette machine is something I will never buy.

If you cant collect and pay cash its a scam. If you bid and are successful and go to collect and its a pile of crap walk away with a smile and leave a neg nothing they can do. If they want paying up front then they deliver it free it does not excist nobody pays for transport if they dont have to especially these days.

I am ancient an even I blow off. strictly speaking according to the textbook you need 6 times running current to start a motor. But in practice you can get away with 3 times so 10kw will start with 30kw. Just need to be careful the volt drop does not damage equipment elsewhere or damage itself. Also alot depends on how much load is on the motor when it starts and whether it can be stalled whilst running.

If it was me I would have a mooch about the plant auctions and buy an open 50 kva diesel set 1500 rpm for about £1500 . I see lots of home made efforts you dont need a gearbox all you will do is introduce friction and headaches. Most of my part exchange sets of this value go straight to the auction so there is no confusion as to who is paying for the repairs when they overload it 24/7 for 3 months If you size the set correctly and try and run it at least half load you should not have problems with glazing or slobbering. If you find you do add 3 short wave heaters for the workshop into the mix should help out. A one hour run at full load every few weeks normally sorts them out. kindlet will probably be direct on line ie no soft start or star delta starting. Not sure if you can soft start a hydraulic pump with pressure relief valve. Maybe talk to richard at fuelwood.

Hi Dean The start up current on fluorescent or capacitive lighting is hard on generators because of the power factor. I went to a factory years ago that had a 5kw honda with 50 lights loaded within max output. But when they switched the lights on it blew the diodes in the generator. normal tungsten lamps no problem same as putting a heater on. To start a 2kw motor without long sterm damage to the windings you will need 7-8 kw or 10 kva. Long cable run will cause a volt drop the only way round this is bigger cable as long as set is big enough getting a bigger one wont help.

Sorry for delay in response cant find my software on any of the pc's in office. So found another on on the net. To start a 7.5kw motor 3 phase dol you will need 39.65 kva.

Had my generator business 20 years spent to much in the wrong places at the beginning. Often the cheapest adverts have the best effect. Try and get some free editorial. Often paid adverts just throw money at office wallers. I would try mailshots by email and through the post or cheap local ads, I have had success advertising on arbtalk.

As pointed out I now realise this is an employment forum and not discussion. I like a few people probably check todays post without actually looking where its taking me. May be certain forum areas could have a flashing banner especially this and the sponsored areas when you try to post on them. If someone posts a job up on here its noone elses business but theres and is not up for discussion as they are not asking for an opinion. Its still too early winter has not happened yet. If it does not happen thats life. It did not happen last year it may not happen this year. Risk not thy whole wad. Winter is December to April. No one is cutting hard wood as they are trying to keep the price high and there is easy money to be had cutting softwood for the subsidised biomass market. If it was £30 a tonne it would be flying it only got to £40 a tonne because of 2 hard winters when it run out. The exhaust falls to bits on my 039 for a past time you need to tighten the bolts till they nearly snap. The rattleing is probably the spacer in the exhaust I think last complete genuine exhaust I bought was about £25 inc silencer, bolts, gaskets, spacers and nuts.
