  1. We do bone dry kindling bags for £1.60 + vat if you collect. They weigh 4 kg but if they were wet they would be 8kg . We are currently low on stock due to high demand. It's getting to the time when you will need to take what you can get. If any one wants a few hundred bags we are currently on a 4 week lead time.
  2. Logs are so cheap round my way might buy some in for my own house:biggrin:
  3. Thinking out loud 300 tonnes is 450 cu m of loose logs at £80 = £36,000 turn over. I roughly worked out with everything accounted for about 25% is left for my labour. So £9000.00 per year wages. The only way you can earn a living from firewood is 300 tonnes, plus something that pays 20k a year. Or do 1000 tonnes 1500 metres = 120k turn over should leave you with 45 wages. If you sell your logs for £55 a metre there is no profit in it at all.
  4. Once you get into a state of stress even small things will send you off the deep end. Half the country is on edge because they made woopee on their credit cards for the last ten years and paid too much for their houses. When you get too busy you make bad decisions, do less make more and enjoy it. I found short breaks a waste of time as it takes at least 3 days to come down. If you cant spare 3 weeks away from your business its not running right.
  5. Hang in there crazy cutter. Maybe use it as cherry on the top to suppliment another income if you rely on it you are under pressure to compete. If we have a few mild winters it will be a waste of time for anyone who buys in timber because the arb waste will last through. But if we have a hard winter market is yours as the rest will run out. Once the stuff is seasoned and stored right will last for years. There is a glut of firewood about after last winters mild weather and customers can shop around. If the weather come in hard and its in short supply you have to be hard and put it out for £100 a cube +
  6. Just a bit of steam letting off. 99% of customers are great. You can take the mick out of every generation including mine. Here goes born 1968 missed out on the apprenticeships got stuffed with endowments failed to be a yuppie got caught with 2 negative equities, wont get a pension.
  7. Its very trendy at the moment for the well off to save money even if they dont need to. Everybody likes a bargain but for some it is causing alot of pain. If everyone talks the economy down people wont start spending. For what its worth I dont think we are out of the woods yet just dont tell the rich.
  8. I had a really ignorant one 8 bed mansion Range Rover on the drive. Caused problems in the past, took an order by mistake. Used the tipping trailer for delivery with the Landcruiser Amazon towing it. To say it got up his nose would be an understatement He got the last laugh though when we got home noticed he wrote the cheque for £3 less than should have been. If he reads this he will know why we refuse to deliver logs for the last 3 years.
  9. Until the temps plummet selling logs round our way is a waste of time. North Hampshire is flooded with people selling logs. Retired middle class are as tight as a ducks **** War babies that were brought up to make do and mend sitting on millions living on thin air so they can leave 99% of their wealth to their off spring. Give them the price smile sweetly and move on as they have all day to haggle a deal and poke around with a moisture meter. No offence if you are a war baby not everyone is like this just the stereo type
  10. 5 years ago my beech was £24 + vat delivered in now its £55 - £60 + vat delivered in. If your not getting the money someone in the middle is.
  11. Especially if the russians turn the gas off.
  12. Paying for the wood and fuel etc the cost price has to be 52.50 a cube. Unless you can get £80 a cube sit doors in the warm or find another side line to take the pressure off then wait till all the logs run out and charge £120 a metre.
  13. I have some ash cut down 3 years ago we left them in 1m lengths split last week and checked 30% in the middle. May also depend on what time of year it was cut. Log it in January send it out in November any less and its wet and wont burn properly.
  14. Hi we are Based in Hampshire and supply wholesale kindling if you click the link below it will take you into our listing in the directory.
  15. I had a 2x very similar machine the bar should be vertical in the processor. If not you should find 4 bolts at the back of the the machine loosen and move the whole lot about till it looks right.
  16. BBC 5 day is looking cold all week -2 even down here.
  17. In two weeks time after the frost there will be no logs left then it will be £200 for 3 logs . I will offer free stacking then arb talk will be full of 'anyone know where I can get dry cord' posts
  18. I had this. And it was always one of three things 1. My crap hand sharpening. If the teeth are not sharpened absolutely spot on and evenly the bar will try and cut a banana. Which it cant cos its fixed. If this carries on the bar will wear one side and make things worse. The answer for me was a £20 lidls bench grinder never looked back. Chains £3 8 sharpens out of each then bin. Often got days of cutting out of a sharpen. 2. Burrs on the bottom of the bar rails. 3. The bar mounts need adjusting because the bar is not 90 deg to the timber.
  19. Not round our way they are too rich to pay for anything
  20. Yeah Peckerwoo's Back:party: as you can see from previous posts I tried to hold the fort but made a right balls of it.
  21. Do the teeth look mullered or does the bar just not want to cut through the log ?
  22. I thought they were called porous Fords because the coolant fell through the block and ended up in the sump with the oil ? Be careful especially on older tractors when enclosed in a barn as there is alot of fumes comming from the engine breather especially my tractor So what is worse petrol fumes or diesel fumes ? I have had more than my share of diesel fumes over the last 25 years.
  23. If he was making good money perhaps he would have a day off. Its easy to be a busy fool.
