  1. I would think so, in my mind birch is getting a bit close to softwood in burning traits ( cant spell characteristics ) so bone dry will give good heat for not very long.
  2. By the time they ship their birch over hear you could by it cheaper from anyone on here and you would get a better log being a mix of beech and ash etc. Hence a bit of a pointless excercise especially if diago swizavitch does a bunk with your 6k.
  3. That looks a good bit of kit . like a chipper but makes something useable rather than waste.
  4. Our supply of long lengths of reject planned pine construction timber is not keeping up with our demand. Ideally I need seasoned timber with a square edge. I have thought about small cordwood but would need a machine to strip some of the bark and put a flat edge on it. I have a machine which grabs 6 pieces of planned timber at once and cuts it to 6" automatically. Our kindlet will handle round timber but is best with planned. The bags are dry and ready to go have no bark in and dont go mouldy. I have thought of used scaffold boards but some are treated . I have tried slab wood from a fence manufacturer but it has a high bark content and often alot of sticky sap. I would appreciate any other ideas. Off cuts shorter than 2ft are not cost effective to process.
  5. If the bags are too full I bring the handles together with a 2ft piece of rope. a strap across each pair they look the business even then they can have a life of their own.
  6. More money in selling stoves and wood processors
  7. I have to agree with most of the above posts. Having worked the figures out I came to the conclusion that 40 tonnes of free wood with an axe and chainsaw is worth doing for beer money. 1000 tonnes done with proper kit is worth doing if every other farm in the area does not have the same kit paid for with 1/4 million grants. People doing 300 tonnes a year are lucky to break even and are stuck in a sort of no mans land, the more time you spend on logs the less time you have to earn a proper living.
  8. We have a hakki pilki processor but at least half the cord we buy wont go through it. We have a 10 tonne vertical splitter. with one on the chainsaw and the other on the splitter we process 1 cu metre an hour inc lunch break. With the right cord the processor does 4 cu an hour average. So to get 150 cu metres ready is a few saturdays. I would not spend 3k on a processor unless I was going to do 150 tonnes in the next few weeks. If I were you I would deliver and get a Polish lad.
  9. If any of your commercial vehicles or vans are older than 2003 it may cost £100 a day per vehicle need to check on line as others have said.
  10. I did a trip round the north coast and stayed overnight at Ullapool fantastic little place. I think in November I would go with steves idea. You need to do Scotland in the summer before the midges arrive.
  11. He is not that honest as he has forgotten to mention the rest of the problems. Like doors dont fit, heater does not work, cant get the gears when cold, massive slack in the transmission, whineing transfer box, wandering steering, wallowing suspension,
  12. I would drive the hundred miles and check it top to bottom and make an offer. If it continues on ebay bid then and dont part with cash until you are stood next to it with keys in hand.
  13. I would say its ok. By asking for £200 you know if someone is a time waster within 24 hrs you can relist. I would ring him up and go and see it. Must have 2k in new rubber on it. If you ring him and you cant see it it does not excist.
  14. I collect ofcuts of timber for our kindling machine. I use a piece of rope to tie the handles together in the middle then strap down.
  15. Looking at the pics it looks bigger than its 16hp .9 litre engine lets on. I was thinking it would be more ride on lawn mower. Does look more 5k
  16. You could use permanent ink and stamp their forehead good long term advertising
  17. No idea but they were only made between 2001 -2003 if it helps. In good condition I bet it would make £1500 on ebay.
  18. our steam cleaner was a bit smokey so I thought running on kero it would be a bit cleaner. Within 3 minutes the fuel pump was dead and cost me £90 . I tend to put the correct clean fuel in everything now.
  19. Sorry should have said weather vane
  20. I wasnt going by the met office. I can always tell what the weather is going to do by looking at me cock.
  21. I think the clue is in the name ' Renault '
