  1. There is two ways of looking at this. If you paid the hours you want the work but then again if your men have put their back into and cracked the job out by 3 they dont want to be dragged back to a shed till dark. swings and roundabouts different people swing different ways.
  2. If I have not hand sharpened for weeks and its just not happening on the saw the bench grinder just seems to put things right. tend to touch up four or five times then give it some volts.
  3. Oak can be a right pain and takes forever to dry out. Sometimes its fine other times even when completely burnt for hrs sits there in a rock hard lump in the way. If I sold alot of oak I would tend to believe the complaints seen it in my own stove a few times. At 30% I would say you will struggle to burn it.
  4. how do you manage to get all the paint off the bar in 3 hrs.
  5. Thanks for that Jonathan. 5 cu metres would give me about 450 bags of kindling. Because its large it wont take long to cross cut to 6 in so still in with a chance. Whats dimensioned and through and through. I bought about 15 tonne of larch from a wood mill for £100 but some tapers well, some is too small some is bent so its giving me some learning experience. Turned about 30 tonnes of lime into fire wood for next year about 2 months ago mostly big stuff aswell upto 4ft so alot of it would have been ideal. I have bought a large peavey I think its made by timber king essential i think if want to keep your back and fingers. Its promising to hear it will season quickly I have been getting it cross cut to 6in and drying in wire cages. do you cut the side out and turn 90 deg or 180. I have been cutting bark off all 4 sides. I need to get most of it off so it can be clamped in the little notches on the bottom.
  6. now you are getting complaints about your spelling not enough o's
  7. I bought a lt15 woodmizer with the intension of having a play but mainly to make planks to cross cut then kindle. So far I have enjoyed my efforts but have the feeling the quantity I will produce will kill the job. How many cubic metres could be produced in a day if you dont need accuracy. 9x3 seems ideal if 6ft long. What size timber is most efficent. I am thinking below 12" timber waste of time But over 20in hard work to turn especially if 12ft long. Would you cut large stuff into 6ft lengths. I am looking to get a few sticks of poplar to see how it turns into kindling. Thanks for any advice in advance it could save me alot of time.
  8. He may have worn that one out by now and looking for another
  9. I would go and look at the job and work out how long you think it will take. £200 per man per day. Take your dad and give him the logs if he wants them. If you run away from the job you have earnt nothing. If you under price it you will have learnt a lesson and got your foot in the door. Next job, up the price. Find out if they need 10 million cover on your insurance as thats more cost ea year. Find out if you have to sit an induction course, more time on the job and finally if they want risk assement 1 page of A4 is fine if they want 20 pages and lots of coloured boxes thats alot more money. Good luck with it.
  10. Yes but wont he need operators licence aswell. If you get that may aswell run a proper 7 tonne jobbie. Dont the less honest down rate then take the rap for being over weight if caught, if it goes to court you can prove its not dangerous as its well within its original design capacity. I would rather see that than a 3.5tonne tranny with 3 tonne of chip on.
  11. Yeah December will be special offer on recycled chipboard kitchen cabinets. Fire lighters not required free delivery. I love it in the winter when the logs run out.
  12. little lucas swing lift on the corner. About £150 on ebay used or look for a powered sack truck or fit a taillift. see a cheap one this week cant remember where may have been ebay. May have been on a cheap vehicle some where, take off weigh in truck type thing.
  13. They are pulling up slabs in southampton docks If i get a minute I will go have a reccy. These look about 6ft square with metal edge and about 4-6 inch thick.
  14. The waste product from batching plants is not bags of dust its finished product left after a delivery because the customer miscalculated the amount they needed. If you order 6 cu metres of concrete and send one back they will charge you £200 to get rid as it is setting. If you have several areas shuttered up ready they can drop it in for you but you need to be ready to go as it takes a lot longer than you think to scrape level and shutter up an area.
  15. It does not help when some stove sellers tell the public wood is free or if you get really stuck you may have to pay £50 for a well heaped transit load. The stoves are being sold as a way to save on your heating bill. You wont find many stove warehouses cutting logs in their yard.
  16. Thanks for your replies. I did not realise that forum was out their. I will give WM a ring in the next few days.
  17. The hanson plant in Andover does not allow it and the trucks are fitted with trackers. Unfortunately
  18. You cant beat proper concrete on working areas machines sit level and you can power sweep after wards. I worked out the other day a pad 6mx6m 150mm thick with materials and labour wont leave much change from £1000 so not cheap areas used for storage are ok with lesser materials.
  19. Measure between two of the handles. generally 800mm = 0.56 cube 900mm = 0.7 cube 1000mm = 1cube
  20. I recently purchased a woodmizer LT15 and a user manual would be useful had a look on their site cant find a pdf. Any ideas
  21. Go for another dual mass. The vibration can damage the gearbox and some vehicles especially the transit suffer from clutch judder. Not sure about the disco
  22. Pretend your a farmer they never use lights. I have a 2140 if you think they are the same I will look for a manual. Got manuals for most things anything else big ammer.
  23. Sorry I was confused with somuch wood logs If I can identify what it looks like and get some I will gladly send you 10kg next day for £10 What does it look like? You could try Paul Gouldon in Hampshire he has all sorts tucked away. I bought a wood mizer this week been cutting everything up I can get the forks under.
  24. Not a chainsaw I know but we steam clean our wood processor every 3 years. That dusty oily coating does one thing. Keeps the rust out looks like new when you come to sell. If we steamed it every month the paint would be faded and every thing covered in rust.
  25. Is that the same as I dont want a cubic metre just fill my great big trailer for a tenner. Or does sumach wood excist
