  1. Yes good to meet you paul. I know I had 3 pints through the day and 3 in the tuckers that was enough for me another one and I would have kept going and been very ill the next day.
  2. 5kw stove in the front room fans in the loft draw warm air to the ends of the house. cost £400 for stove £150 for fans and insulated ductwork. with wb using about 8 cu metres of wood we use 1000 litres of oil without wood burner 2000 litres plus. but front room is 27deg rest of house 24 deg too hot for blokes. Empty the tray in the wb every 3 or 4 days.
  3. Its good stuff because it is 6% proof so needs to be drunk like wine. Its easy to drink as its not fizzy and does not bloat you out or make you feel dehydrated. But after drinking 5 pints in an hour your legs stop working and you pass out:lol:
  4. Thats alot of questions If you want £300 a month I would concentrate on getting in cheap arb arisings locally. I produce kindling so have an interest in selling you kindling but will help you with the figures. A kindlet will make 60 bags an hour with 2 people feeding it. But you will spend nearly as much time preparing your 6in blanks. So thats 30 bags an hour you will be on your own so thats down to 25 bags an hr. 10 hr day = 250 bags most people who have tried this have done 1000 bags in a week and its driven them mad. after hire costs you will probably earn £300. Find a good kindling supplier local to you buy a hundred bags and make £2 a bag for doing nothing and build up a customer base.
  5. Silky was like a Japanese tourist with jons new camera until 9pm when he comes round should be some good pics. I think Paul said his phone was out of action.
  6. I dont care what they say now I been on the cizer with jon
  7. Needs to go up £5 a cube every year regardless. Fuel, cord and kit is going up massively every year without even looking at inflation.
  8. I would pm treegeek on here if he cant help he will know someone who can.
  9. In 6 years I had 4 complaints two of them were ok when reassured 2 of them were such p****s I picked up and refunded. Stayed perfectly polite but made it plain they were not to call again. Things are worse this year as there is more timber about people are short of cash and need to moan at somebody. As the winter draws on and logs run out people are more grateful for anything they can get. Just part of the job, try to focus on the really nice people you deliver to they are the majority and its a pleasure to meet them. Dump the idiots on your competition down the road. The more you refuse to deliver the more they want it even had their relations trying to order on their behalf.
  10. I thought the cider was good especially the last one good to meet you all. The evening seemed to end too soon but judging by some of the troops may have been just as well
  11. I am looking for cheap softwood to plank and turn into kindling. But the transport alone I think will kill it. The easiest and most profitable ideas I think are above.
  12. I am always looking for joinery offcuts. Untreated no mdf ply or man made boards. Ideally cut to exactly 6inch I have several supplies of this for £5-£10 a bulk builders bag. Or large timbers 2x2 upwards at least 3ft long. A bag of assorted stuff 7in long is a waste of time for us and worthless. The 5in offcuts we struggle to sell for £10 a bulk bag to the public.
  13. We were there at 12 had a swift half will be back later
  14. off the A366 postcode BA35XF
  15. Arctic load for the silky
  16. If you get some big bits of pop I would be interested in driving up and paying you for a sample of 3 tonnes to try on my woodmiser for kindling if it works out would take an arctic load if we can get it in.
  17. Chuck it to the back of the shed put it down to experience and buy some proper stuff off someone on here. Burn your chestnut and softwood next year.
  18. I may drop in during the day if we have time. Do you need kindling for your fires bbq s . I have dustbin fulls of rejects you can throw on to get things going or to feed a firepit. Will bring some sample bags of kindling we sell if I remember. I will be their in the evening after been for a meal with family.
  19. Not the same material but in the last 6 months we have done more than 10,000 bags of kindling. From 3 different manufacturers all monofilament 40x50 we bounce our bags of kindling and top them off so they stay neat. The cheapest bag took nearly 5kg of kindling the best quality took only 3.5kg. the volume of wood between the bags was more than 30% due to fabric stretching it would not surprise me if bulk bags did a similar thing.
  20. I bought a 260 and a ms390 about 3 years ago for £150 ea and they have been great. I bought them from the husky dealer nr Paignton in Devon while on holiday. He does not like stihl saws
  21. I am going out for a cider with Jon on saturday but I am hoping I will not need to join Alcoholics Anonomous.
  22. Yes your right you do it manually you cant do enough to earn a living you buy kit there is no profit left. The more you do the worse it gets because you need to buy cord in. I think you need to do it as a side line with arb arisings or buy standing, harvest transport process and sell 1000 tonnes.
  23. Difficult to say what that is. If its softwood the growth rings will be large and thick ie a 4in log may only have been growing a few years. I can tell you what I dont think it is. Its not beech, ash or oak. I dont think its birch, lime, cherry, hawthorn one bit looks like it could be sycamore. Sorry cant be more help we sell hardwood but dont think I have ever had any of that here.
  24. From your posts I gather you do alot of firewood. The only reason I can see for doing billets on a large scale is if you have a lot of large butts. Is their not a large machine on the market that billets then cuts and conveys out in one go. If I was going back into logs I would make some 3 metre crates like my local competition and process into them. When it comes to tipping out big rotator on a telehandler. billets straight into logs has to be the way to go with bigger cord wood comming out the woods all the time. My view was if a human touched the timber profits were draining away. Tools and toys only
  25. I would agree with the above. We have been selling logs now for 6 winters. The first 4 we could have sold ten times as much. Last winter was a waste of time and so far this one is not much better. Alot depends on how many small people are in your area and if the weather is cold enough they will run out. I think selling logs is down to how much competition is in your area even if you have the best logs at a reasonable price at the moment for some its a struggle. Maybe look at pallet freight into areas with less competition.
