  1. Thats the difference between kiln dried for a few hrs and solar kiln dried for weeks. There is no advantage to kiln drying it just uses fossil fuels to achieve what nature does in 12 months for free even outside in the rain. Once you get your immediate problem sorted get 2 years in front of the job
  2. if you have been operating for more than 6-7 years they may not be able to stop you if you apply for a legal certificate. If they do charge business rates just designate a 10ft sq area where you park the kit and pay for that yard space. If your turn over is low you will be excempt from business rates.
  3. I would say Dean is spot on. I sell mine for £6 retail and £4 wholesale. I get alot of moans about the wholesale price but its not worth me doing for less if the weather stays mild I wont sell much at £3 if it goes cold I will sell out at £6 so I might aswell sit tight they will leep till next year. CPL are not cheap suppliers to the garages because of the delivery costs. I would not be brow beaten into a cheap price.
  4. We can supply softwood kindling but no longer do logs. Log baron on here is big into nets of logs and is a bit closer to you.
  5. There are lots of people running around buying cheap wet crap logs as cheap as possible. There are alot of people running around selling logs that cant add up.These two sets of people find each other on the net until hard weather jits then it all runs out. I am not reffering to anyone on hear £60 for a .7cu bulk bag is about right round our way. But to the public a big white bag is a big white bag. We have people tipping 3 cu metres for £140 . It costs me £120 for the wood.
  6. I have been very busy the last 3 years treading water. I will get rid of a third of my work in the new year as its just not worth doing. Easier times and more time to look for more profitable worth doing work. The recession has effected alot of industries in this country you need to find the ones still flying high. Everything goes dead for 6 weeks around christmas which does not help.
  7. Thanks for your replies. I was thinking alternator diodes so new alt about £120 external regulator if I get it wrong is about £75 for a genuine one. I only use it for a yard cart but its ideal getting through the 2 ft of mud at the moment thinking of selling soon if anyone wants a single cab with new alternator
  8. I must mention there was no fighting he tripped over a tree root but does not make as good a story does it.
  9. Thanks mate I will give it a try tommorrow again spent an hr tonight trying to get back on even tried joining as a new member no luck
  10. I have a mk 3 diesel hilux single cab for getting about the muddy yard. But it discharged its new batteries a few weeks ago. At the same time half the dash lights stopped working and the truck will not operate the glow plugs. When sat with everything switched off its draining 1/2 an amp out of the batteries. If I disconnect the small connector on the alternator the dash lights and glow system starts again. If I disconnect the near side battery neg the alternator relay clicks and also the dash lights work. All very strange especially without a set of drawings. Has any one had these problems and was it a regulator or an alternator.
  11. Not a very good pic but u can see the roof sheet on top which has now been extended across the container on the right and will shortly be across the one on the left.
  12. Yes 100mm thick plasticote steel sheet both sides. Not designed for roof sheets but bit of mastic between the joints 99% waterproof. The government is giving loans to companies to improve their fridges so the stuff is getting ripped out in vast quanities. Make sure the sheets are not to old as they will not be fire proof. Got the sheets free will try and find a pick. You could do the sides as well and you dont loose space inside.
  13. I have one container with sheets of fridge side on the roof. No condensation in this container. The other roof as normal running with condensation inside.
  14. I would be careful how you tell people to do one. I offered money to a tree worker at the end of our road who was involved with a big road construction. He became aggressive and violent as I was explaining I was happy to pay for use within my business. After his visit to minor injuries unit and some butter fly stiches we got on much better and now buy any wood he has spare, the start of a beautiful friendship.
  15. I went at a mullered chain with a bench griner because I was having a bad day and also to see what the effect was when the teeeth were blue. The chain held its edge alot longer on the saw but was a pita to sharpen by hand. But if you always use a grinder then makes no difference after about 4 bench grinds you start to get through the case hardening. I find the stihl chain a bit soft when new anyway
  16. To some of the new log burner owners a log over 15% is wet. And of course you only order more logs when you have 4 left in the basket.
  17. We had thought of it and one of our bag suppliers sent us some really nice nets with big colourful band saying chimnia logs in 4" letters looked good. People who use chimnias often have never lit a fire in their lives so simple fuel like this is ideal especially if they are nine parts to the wind.
  18. Little and often. A tiny smudge every couple of months.
  19. Im not taking my clothes off and photographing the wobbly bits. Oh go on then dave as its only you looking I get me camera.
  20. I think dave riding had some bulk bags on ebay a few weeks ago.
  21. I went to the docs a year or so ago about something unrelated to weight and got the third degree about taking more exercise. My cholesterol apparently is 6 and my gut is flab not muscle. I dont feel obese but feel better to do something about it now than wait for it to get worse. I have more time now the economy has slowed up. Good time to take things easy on the business front I have been flat out for the last 20 years. I left school and went straight into an apprenticeship I have only been out of work for 3 months since I left school in 1985 time for a gap year or ten.
  22. I have put on another stone since giving up cutting logs a few months ago. So now 6ft 4 and 18 stone with clothes on. I have bought a used concept 2 rowing machine for christmas. New they are about £1200 but bought a late one for £600 they can be connected to the internet and race against others so we could have an arb talk rowing club. I went for the indoor rower due to the crap weather we get now its to easy to stop the cycling routine when its pissing with rain. I killed my knees when a teenager long distance cycling so dont want to run or cycle too much again. I have been doing about 1/2 hr every other day 6500 meters which is supposed to burn 400 calories.
  23. I am sure the op is genuine as he is a religious man. May be he needs a slight change in direction give harry christner a try they seem happy dancing about the uniform looks cheap and I have never seen a fat one.
  24. The bags are currently 450mmx500mm and weigh 4-5kg I am thinking bigger bags would be 450x800 and weigh 6-7kg so a serious bag of kindling. The trick is to supply a different market without upsetting our customers excisting stock. Thanks for all your feedback.
