  1. Yes I pay training, i pay for his time training he has my credit card buys all his ppe,
  2. I pay my labour £125 day plus pay for phone, give him a van and all fuel he is paid sick days and holiday plus overtime I charge £275 per day for him he makes me money
  3. We use a RSJ in a four in one bucket to level them and spread the soil make sure it’s been dry for a couple of days
  4. They should be very fine soil not always with ants in not common to have so many
  5. Unfortunately you are spot on
  6. So realistically say 1100 kgs payload less driver and tank of fuel few tools you would be lucky to get 750 kg real load on back
  7. I would still like to see the actual accident reports thar the HSE relied on to come to this conclusion were the people involved trained pros, journeymen, students or amateurs.were they climbing on modern equipment, used equipment or blue rope on the non fatal accidents were second climbers used or did they self recover to ground level the more I think the more questions there are it is possible to make statistics say whatever you want. I believe that this decision has been put forward by one or two people at the H S E so I would like to be able to see the evidence if the AA need to write the icop they should publish the facts until then they should resist if they don’t write the icop who else will ?. Until it is written it can’t be law, the AA are industry funded not government they should be looking after the companies and people who pay their subscriptions for true representation, just because the HSE tell them to do it doesn’t mean they roll over and comply, ultimately subscriptions pay their mortgage not the HSE
  8. How can one persons flawed opinion and interpretation of a document be allowed to have such a impact on a industry, they don’t have the correct statistics to back up Their actions surely its reasonable to request them to justify themselves would there evidence of accidents stand up in court?
  9. Climbing completions they might as well use a cherry picker
  10. Can someone enlighten me,if the industry refuses to follow the approved code of practice and AA say it’s wrong how can it be enforced surely it’s no longer approved?
  11. I would suggest that the guys on two ropes are going to lose work to the guys with one rope who are losing work to Big Garry. The man who taught me never used a line just a rope round his waist
  12. Gas is not a good analogy as this is covered by legislation
  13. Unfortunately you do however they are prosecuted by trading standards or the HSE
  14. Spell check got me I was referencing the HSE working at height specialist not yourself. as a matter of interest was a chainsaw used during the demo ? How many branches were brought down did they free fall or were they rigged it could hardly be a reasonable demonstration of our working practises if this did not happen,
  15. Maybe but my experience of the HSE recently, I had an inspection last week was they were removed from the real world, they had read the books, watched the videos, and got piles of qualifications and courses But no real world work experience they had not done a real job since leaving university
  16. I would also like to see mr Paul McCann qualifications in arboriculture to enable him to comment on the techniques used, I would take a large bet he has never climbed a tree
  17. So it looks like they climbed up a tree branch walked maybe then came down and went for a pint. Was any real work carried out, seems there were no groundies managing the ropes and the rigging down of the branches cut.i think the video and photos should be published, the AA is meant to represent the industry so just what do you get for your subscription? they should make it widely known that they do not agree with the HSE therefore bringing into question the approved code of practise. It would then need to be revised
  18. Get a far bigger crane stand along way back not to damage edges etc and lift all out in one go
  19. Some might argue that utility arb where they generally work on one side of the tree and not very high, has no relevance when the rest of the industry can be approaching 100ft up and in three dimensions
  20. Given that the hse is now self funding, their income is from the fines they issue. And climbers will now require more training, and the AA have rolled over and surrendered. It seems this is one big money making excercise for the old boy network, based on dodgy statistics
  21. We use these almost daily. no 171 “open notice” can lead to a lot of problems they then start asking for streetworks ! supervisor and operative and you can’t be both. The fines keep the local authority in business. From talking to my local area supervisor in Essex they see tree works as a revenue stream to be exploited. just having to park your truck in the road requires notice and compliant signing and guarding if not another fine. All the utility companies are conversant with them. Some opt to pay the fine if they get caught and hope they don’t.
  22. The fact is the blade tips are traveling at at least 300mph and if they come loose they fly off unrestricted by any guard therefore they do not comply with the regs with a chainsaw there is little centrifugal force to overcome. Realistically nothing will happen until somthing does then the bricks will fall, ignorance is no defence in law
  23. You can do a lot with the old style metal 520+ given the right weights, adjustments and a clever driver they will lift nearly one tonne are smaller than the new ones. All parts can be found at your local hydraulic shop the engine is bomb proof, I have looked at getting a new one,had them on demo.my lads still get into the old 520+ first. When you sum up the parts of an Avant/ multione the price far exceeds the cost of the parts. These on eBay look good value for money. I think they might well be worth a serious look.
