  1. Poor lad that must of been a bit of a schock for him glad he is ok . thats good it happened slowley so he was able to move away and watch the action nice pics.
  2. I know its a hard one what you could do is add on 5 quid on all your loads overall . for most of them you will not have to stack but when you do need to stack for them you can do it with a smile and your welcome . the customer thinks your such an nice guy and have not charged any more for it . that way you have made the money in a diffent way to cover your time Well its just a thought all the best Littetree:thumbup:
  3. Wow thats amazing what a wonderfull job that would be Thats got Littletrees name on it .
  4. Hi there this is the way I would look at it if I was selling logs or any service for me is my tree and garden care company . The customer has a choice of so many places to get there logs ,trees and gardens sorted . my service has to be better and different to the rest as I want my service or product to stand out amounst the rest and want the customer to choose my service over the others and want my new customer to come back to me for repeat business and tell there friends. If it were logs I was doing I would offer to help them stack them give a bit of time to for a little chat each time so they get to know me better and warm to me so then they want me and my logs again rather then them thinking sod this I will go else where as did not like that chap very much . . looking at this this way it changes things . I allways go over and above and bend over backwards for all of customers it may cost me a little time and sometimes patients but it pays me/ you big time in the long term plan of it all as if they like you and what you offer they will be back again and again and there freinds to. Sometimes its not just the product we are selling that sells it self it can be you as a person the customer is paying for if they like the person behind the product they usually buy your product. Just my humble opinion all the best Littetree:thumbup:
  5. O Wow what a wonderfull job the vid is excellent . I think a job like that would be my ultimate dream in tree work I just love the hight and spikes . I have never done any big jobs like that only climbing those poles and cuttting little trees . Wicked and Wicked Littetree:thumbup:
  6. He has probabley just made a mistake but I would never buy a saw from ebay I use ebay loads but not for chainsaws or anyother of my tree/garden equipment . dont even bother looking at them i would hate to see anyone on here get taken in by a scam. All the best Littletree:thumbup:
  7. I am slightly off course but I must say the blower I got was the best bit of kit i have ever brought . other then chainsaws it was one of the first bits of kit i got . i use it every day and my customers love the results it gives as I am allways able to make there garden /parth/dirve or what ever bit i use it on better then before i started well worth every penny . Not sure how many tons it shifts but I it does shift loads and loads for me . Littetree:thumbup: .
  8. Hi dmclimber good luck with your new job . you will have a great time and you will learn so much and make some great friends along the way . Some tips for you for day one . Take some good water proofs that will fit over the chainsaw trousers and a water proof light jacket. Take pleanty to DRINK between a min of 2Lt of it you will be really glad you did Ware a thin wickeing like HH or odlow base layer then a regular T shirt over the top and then a fleece over that, the fleece will come off as soon as you start dragging your fist branches you will be really hot even if there is snow all over the ground but when you stop you will want your fleece again very quickly .. Take some sticky rubber plamed gloves or any gloves you have for the first day . some companys will hand these out others dont . Take a dry set of clothes for after the day is done if you have gotton soaked then you will have something to change into when you are done . Good luck and enjoy your new job you will love it what ever the weather . let us all know how you got on Its one of the best moves you will have ever made All the best Littletree
  9. Hi Dave A big welcome to Arbtalk you are more then welcome to ask as meny questions as you like. Newbys are allways welcome and most of us will try to make you feel at home and welcome and put you at ease . You have come to the right place . You have done really well if you have got as far geting it to the ground . if you are just a land owner and not going to use chainsaw in a pro feild then your best bet is to ring up one of the local tree companys and just ask them how much it would be for them to give you a cuple of hours of training you could also offer them to do a bit of ground work for free for them too. It may take a couple of calls but I reckon you will get someone willing after a few calls The courses are excellent but if work out very expensive unless you are going to use it in your job .its a difficult one If you have masses of land and loads of trees to come down then cs30/31 would see you right and keep you safe and would be worth it as then you would have all the pratice you need . you can even offer the your local training center the use of your land for the course you may even get a discount for the venue. If your trunk is on the gournd then all of the other posts should see you right in getting it chopped up ok . All the best and good luck Thanks Littletree:thumbup:
  10. I think after reading all of the posts If you go to work for a company as a climber then you shold expect to see the correct personal on the ground that complies wth the H&S guidlines to help ensure your safety this would be standard pratice. if this is not in place then if you feel unsafe then dont go up simple and just say sorry not happy and not going to do it. Its a hard one when you are self employed to trying to get the things a company does changed . in short if the person paying you needs you to climb then if you say you wont do it unless you have the correct people on the ground then its down to the boss to fix it if he wants you to continue . unless you have argeed to yourself to provide you own groundsman then thats different . From my own experince as self employed working sometimes for companys on that basis . If I enjoy my time with them and everything is good and i feel safe with them then happy days and I take work from them again . on the other hand if I dont feel safe and am unhappy with how things are going then I just move on and dont work for them again . I think even if the money is top notch if you are personaly unhappy with things then you have to make your own mind up what you will and will not do . its acutally you that controls the strings if you look at it this way round . Good luck and all the best Littletree.
  11. I hope you get him soon Justin thats just so bad and someone you trusted as well it makes it even worse . People that cheat ,steal and treat other poeple badly ALLWAYS get there cunuppance in the end . They may go on for ages and ages thinking they have gotton away with it and feeling really smug and doing as they please . but Allways in the end it comes back to themselves in a larger mesure then they dished out . I have seen this time and time again over the years Good luck on finding him he deserves to be flushed out Littletree
  12. It looks like a very little Oak tree to start with . Funny I had one of these the other week very short little oak main trunk but thin branches going out to the sides way way to far for the whole tree size the customer wanted me to reduce it . my little Oak turned out very different to the similar tree in the photo . I was gentle with my cutting I able to reduce it all in and kept all the little branches but carfully took each one in to make the whole tree smaller but keeping its shape and its beauty It would of taken me longer to do what I did with mine but it was well worth it for th outcome of the little tree. sometimes time constranints that are put on the cutters can play a large part in the end result for the tree. its difficult to make assumptions unless one was actually there and was able to understand the reasons for the choice of depth of cutting . The customer could of asked for it or there may of been other unsean problems with the tree. Littletree
  13. Hi Fred Thanks for reply keep on at them you will get in as they are allways looking if not today they will be tommorw. bug them for a week and you will be in with those qualls tell Pete Littletree says give you a job . I am slowley building my site its comming along nicely just got into this web thing I am finding its a great way to help advertizie my service as my customers can get to see understand a little about the person who is comming to there home and threre work and they can see the work I have done personaly and the responsies of my customers in my gust book so I am finding its working really well . each time I log on I can see the visitors growing and growing so am really pleased with it . With that level of exp you might consider going self employeed if you have a couple of saws and a blower and your climbing kit and a set of wheels you are sorted. I am not kidding this is what I did and it works. I get to eat cake every day and love getting up for work every morning to go play with my toys and make someones Tree/ garden look really lovely its the best feeling in the world and the best thing I ever did its fun to work for others and get exp and get yourself started off but working for yourself is definatly the way forward long term I now make the same money in 2 days that I was making in 5 days braking my balls off working employed . Think about it in our world everyone you meet in your daily life 95% will have a garden and 70% will have trees so its easy once you have your cards printed and start talking to everyone you meet and do the donky work with the card drops round the doors you will be on to a winner from week one . as all these people with this stuff in there gardens will need it sorting at some point or another . you dont have to start large I dont have a chipper or a truck and have no problems with customers dealing with remains as long as you are compleatly open with them about the whole deal and what you can and cannot do with them most are happy for you to just chop it up small and stack it up neatly for them to take it to the tip later. When poeple buy houses they oftern overlook the work that will be needed on trees the garden and forget that the trees become there problem once they have brought the house a couple of years later this green stuff catches up with them and they then will want YOUR services . I really hope you find some work soon but hope this post gives you some idears to think about long term. All the best Littletree:thumbup:
  14. Voltrol or its new name dicloflex you can also get it in a gell this works a treat .you can also add paracetomol along with it Littletree:thumbup:

  16. Yep Midland forestry were looking a a short while ago allways very busy at this time of year needing people . hours ok 7.30 till 4.30 All the best Littletree
  17. All my advertizing comes from my postcards I get them done by the thousands and I go and deliver these by hand house to house . I select my houses that I can see needs my attention The next type of advertizing is me talking to everyone and telling them what I do so in a day you can chat to so many different people and get cards into the hands just by chatting I have drumed up so many jobs as everone that you chat to 99 percent of them will have a garden and mabe some trees or work needing doing . if you dont tell people they wont know what you do . I get all my cards into all the shops i give custom to for free. I visit Tea shops cafes pubs fish and chip shops any where I go and give custom to get my cards to display for me for free. Then I do care boot sales with my old rubbsih and I have my company displayed on a board and have all my cards on my table anyone one that buys my bits gets a card and I get chatting and then it turns to there garden very quickly . Dont bother with the local papers they are expensive and dont yeald A personal aproach will get you in the business also word of mouth is very important . all the customers you work for make sure they have a stock of cards to give to there friends . I also now have a website so that people can go and have a look at some of the work I do and also see a bit about me and the fun stuff I get up to aswell . AlsoI have a guest book that I direct all my customers to to leave there references for me about the work I have done for them so that new prospective customers can see what other customers are saying about my work . remember when you get your van truck serviced make sure they have some of your cards . I am also in my local parash mag for 12 quid for 6 months . I had 5 days work out of one customer that came from the mag. I am allways looking at differnt ways of advertizing for free its amazing how many ways there are . I got a days work on wed this week from a builder that was working on the next doors place I went and chatted to them and gave them a card . the next day I got a call and they wanted me to go and qoute for a job at a house there were working on as they had a garden to clear . I got a days work out of that chat . your own motivation and passion about the work you do will draw in customers to you as if they like you and what you are about they will give you the work .some of the advertizing you do is sometimes unspoken and it can go a very long way . Hope this helps Littletree:thumbup:
  18. Free hand all the way littletree:thumbup:
  19. I try to start the day with sharp chains and then as I sharpen as I need to druing the day if i need to . I find there is a big difference in the make of files you get I use to use stihl files but found they for me wrere rubbish just had no grind on them at all it was like using a file that was finsihed before you even got it out of the box so changed to Oregon an amazing difference in the file now they sharpen with in a few strokes . 20. Well I managed to do todays job and then headed for the nearest walk in center as by then the pain and swelling was just crazy it had worked its merry way up to my sholder. they took one look and gave me anti bs and said that if it got any worse by the morning I would have to go back and they would have to give me the antibs through a drip and it would require me to stay in hospital for a 24 to 48 hours not very pleased with that prospect . Those really is some nasty little thorns just one tiny bit . I have had these thorns many times befoe get me and never a problem like this just this one tiny little thorn has done all this really shocked it does not take long for it to creap up and along the body lets hope it by the morning its not gone any further . why an earth anyone plants this nasty stuff is beyond belife Littletree.

Thanks guys well at least I am not the only one I will pop along to the doc and see if I can get some antis as work has to continue and its got to go . normaly for all my balackthorn work I use long welders gloves they work a treat but this time I was not in a patch of blackthorn threre was just a little bit near a tree I was taking down and I had the regular rubber sticky garden gloves and it got me . lucky today is a small job so should have time when I have finished to pop in to my local surgery and see if they will dish some up .
