  4. O your post has made me laugh love it . Yes I have lots of paitents hours of it to get a job done well what ever it it. I wont give in till I am 100 percent happy with the outcome and the customer to. I used a long reach hedge trimmer for the reduction part of ti and some of it I had to do with hand tools as there was cables all mixed in up the walls as well. that did take some carefull cutting as they were grey and black and could of been mistaken for some of the roots. 5. O yes they were ichy it took hours and hours up the ladder with the house It took a whole day to sort they eyes out after o for the job of ivy . I found the best tools were a mallet and small crowbar one section was very very hard it just was so matted and stuck it took lots of patients and perservance but in the end I got there the back of the house will similar . I saw lots of spiders and crawleys it took 3 days with the front and back of the house and the garage. now I am on to the trees o happy days The garage was interesting too. the roof went mabe 4 meters back and the roof was made of plastic and dropped down into a very large garage so I could not put any weight on it so I had to do the lot from rope and harness up from the tree above it was just great fun . 6. Hi guys for the ivy lovers you will like these this was a job I did last week . After before. After. O how I love it littletree
  7. Hi thats geat starting a new post for this one . I think it depends on the groundy. a cracking groundy could in my view be equal payed to the climber as they both have different but the roles and set of skills are as just important as each other in the running operatioj. but on the other hand one usually starts as a groundy then over time progresses to climbing so if new into the industry as most start off as a groundy then you would expect to be paid less then someone that has been doing it for a long time so pay can be reflected in experence as well as job roles A excellent groundy that has been doing it for years could get paid more then a new climber . The climber does have the added personal danger with using the chainsaw in the tree so this may be reflected in pay. There does seem to be many views on this but I think if you are a self employed climber hiring a groundy then of course you want to make more money then your groundy as you are running a business so you would pay them less then yourself Littltree:thumbup:
  8. Thanks lads thats great news I am going to be running a 24 for the bigger suff but less offtern and mostly the smalller 15 or 18 bar, but with this choice of saw will have a good range of bar lenghts so I can take on the the bigger stuff when needed as well as having a smaller bar I can use to back up my ms26 should I need it without the bulk of the 390 . Thanks guys Littletree:thumbup:
  9. Hi there I have seen alot worse with compnays and what they pay there climbers. As an employee you will allways pull less money then if you are self employed . as you are using there kit ,trucks, chippers and have money 5 days a week paid into your bank also holiday pay ect . . I am self employed and pull in between 100 and 200 per day with all my own private customers but for that I have to provide all my own kit PPE van ,fule and the job is compleatly on my head so if anyting goes worng its me that has to take the can and replace any kit if it breaks and all the rest of it that goes with being self employed plus I have to go and and find my own work so I have to do all the donky work with leaflet dorps advertizing and pulling in my next days bread. When I am subbing working for other companys I pull in between 65 and 70 a day as a grounds person with all my tickets for grounding climbing cutting and am really happy with it and go home with a big smile on my face each day . I would also climb my hart out all day long for that amount tree after tree and be delighted . Remember your gronds person on the 70 a day has the less fun part of the job he has to do all the hard work for you and clean up all your mess dragging and chipping so he may only get 8 quid less but boy he would have to work for it . I think to sum it up if you have a nice bunch of fun lads to work with and overall you are happy and you get paid on time and get ppe given to you then you are onto an OK deal . some companys will pay more some companys will pay less either way you have the best job going its just fun all the way up the tree every day rain or shine . If you are really unhappy then you might want to consider going self employed then the sky is your limit with your earnings . All the best Littletree:thumbup:
  10. Hi Guys I am soon to become the owner of a Husky 372XP with 24 and 15 inch bars . I have used a 390 and that was very nice but just quite large. My question is for anyone that uses /owns of the 372XP can you kindly give me your ratings on it ? how do you find it runs with a 24 inch bar ? does it have enough power to run the 24 nicley ? is it nice and quick and and sharp on getting up and going on pulling on the trigger ? any reviews would be great. Many thanks Littletree:thumbup:
  11. Thanks so much guys I love you all what a cracking bunch of people you are on here I love stitting here chatting to you all Today has had its moments but not so bad . I had to go to the registery office this morning then sort out the other stuff and the arrangements then continued to pack up the house getting ready to hand it back to the council but you get 4 weeks so plenty of time to get everything out in time . Another big car boot sale planned for sunday to shift it all. more bacon butties yum yum I cook it all on my stand . I am having a picture that I took of her 1 week ago with her eyes wide open and a wonderfull smile on her face blown up to a huge size so I will never be without her again. It just helps me to talk about it . Looking forward to next week when I can play with my toys again its the best way for me to keep the sadness away and stay happy and smiling and keep the sun from going in . I have some lovley jobs booked in for next week so really looking forward to that . I have a very sweet little slim Ash tree that has grown rarther tall for the postage stamp of a back garden it lives in its going to be a real delight to reduce that one for them. My mun can now watch me from an excellent view point even better for her now then watching from ground level she will now be able to see how nice it really is to be at the top of the tree looking down . Hugs to you all Thanks Littletree:biggrin:
  12. Hi There the answer to that is a yes but it depends how much leg work you are prepaired to put into it .the more people you tell about what you do the more work will come to you and the more work you do the more coustomers will spread the word aout you and you will get more business in return if you do it well . Your pepole skills that will play a massive part in winning you the business If the customer likes and the way you deal with them then they will give you the business. your first impressions count as soon as you step though the door the way you look and start talking to them the . They will sum you up within the first minut of the conversation and make up the mind as to weather they like and want you around . People skills one of the most important skills in winnning the business in any trade then it goes onto to how you do the job the finished product and deal with the customer when you are there in there home . Sadly for some tree surgeons there people skills are very poor so it lets them down and it costs them lots of money long term I have witnessed this with my own eyes. My customers can see stright away that I really have a genuin love for what I do and a passion to make There garden /Tree beauitfull also being compleatly stright with them is really important I tell them what I can and cannot do before I start and I never tell them I can do something when I cannot. They like that as it creats trust. All the best Littltree:thumbup:
  13. Hi there its the best job in the world I started down this path uner 2 years ago and its the best move I ever made I am a girl and not far off 40 . Go for it do your tickets and then do some work with local tree surgeons, companys it will give you lots of pratice and you will learn quickly and the best bit is its FUN Then do your climbing thats even more fun . Every day I go to work I love getting up and putting my toys in the van its a wonderfull feeling that each day you will have a new tree garden ,or row of trees make look nice . I love the customers face when you have finished and its imaculate and they just love it its a great feeling to take home with you each day it beats anyother job. Being a girl you bring different set of qualities into Arb work we have diffent ways of dealing with things but for the most of it using all the saws chippers and other toys being a girl makes no difference . A good level of fitness wiill help your passage no end it will make your ground working easy and for the climbing side well I think we have a real advantage when climbing for girsl fit and light makes tree climbing just fun all the way . Go for it you will never look back its the best thing I ever did . All the best Littltree:thumbup:
  14. HI guys just got back from todays job . Working really helped me in a big way the noise of the chainsaws and chipper going compleatly changed my feelings for the better. it was a really nice job and I had 2 really nice chaps to work with I had a little romp round the tree and the weather was great and we were all rapped up by 2 pm wicked. . Last night I did not sleep and the tears were still going at 6 am but going to work made a whole world difference . I really enjoy the work I do very much so working does not really feel like work at all as just live for it and look forward to getting up each day and getting out all my noisy toys to go and play with . Thanks for all your posts .Its lovly to know I have so much support from you all on here. Thanks again Littltree:001_smile:
  15. Thanks to everyone I love you all you are my main family. but I have got some very kind good friends . I will keep my chin up and continue to love life and the work that i so enjoy doing she would want me to continue to be happy everday as she loved what I do and my passion for living . Thanks littltree
  16. Thanks for all your kind replies they are really helpfull I really apreachate your support as I am the only one family member no other brothers or sisters so its broad sholders. I knew this was comming over the last couple of weeks I had a really good quality time with her and was able to say goodby so thats a comfort. but I did not realise how hard it was actually going to be when you see them after you just cannot belive whats before you and even harder to have to stand up and try to walk away leaving them there . Tom is another day and the sun will shine, got a busy day ahead but its better that way as my mind will be kept well away from it all. Hugs to everyone Littletree
  17. Today has been the hardist day of my life . I lost my mum today I had looked after her for years at home but sadly the last month she became so unwell she had to go into St margrets hospice she had cancer and had fort it for years but sadly it took toll and she lost the battle against it today . They have been great and the care has been excellent . I was very close to her we allways had each other through thick and thin we did everything together the hole is going to be very hard to fill I am now sitting infront of my PC feeling pritty crumpled . hope tommrow the sun will come out again. Littltree
  18. Lovey job Ian love the pics and video Excellent stuff Littletree:thumbup:
  19. Hi there thats a real real shame I do hope you find something really soon . with your level of exp and all those years under your belt something sould come your way . If you have your own saw some kit and wheels you may consider going self employed ,get some cards made up asap and posted though the letter boxes and everyhwere else you go ,your friends and everyone else you meet on a daily basis cards into all there hands this Will mean work for you . The work will come in if you can get cards out to enough people most of them will have trees and gardens that need some attention its just a matter of telling them that you can do it for them, Never give up you have worked so hard to get all those tickets and the level of exp you have now, keep going and it will all work out . All the best littltree:thumbup:
  20. Wicked what a catch well done you will be kept in fish suppers for a good old while Littltree:thumbup:
  21. Excellent Stuff the kid got it right 1 row it was good lad . Thats best laugh this morning
  22. Hi there good luck with your courses you will enjoy them they are great fun . Its great you want to get your company to take on tree work for you it will be really good . . I think it would be really help you to do a bit of climbing with tree surgery company even just a little bit will really help you when you come to do the tree work for your company as from the sound of it you would be the main climber to carry out there work . Working along side some other climbers will help you learn all sorts of things and different ways of dealing with situations you would have never thought of and help you to see the different things you can do up a tree to make it look really nice . I did a a few months with a company in there busy time doing council work mainly ground work but a bit of climbing to . in the short time I did learn masses and it has helped me so much working along side the climbers it gave me insite and the basic foundations for the work i do now, without that time with them I would of struggled in a big way as the courses just teach you how to climb and how to make the cuts and a final pruning cut and rescue but not much else . all the other stuff about what goes on up in the tree and and making it look nice and how to do it and problems that can happen only comes from watching /climbing with other climbers . With climbing there is no law to stop you climbing on your own but best practice advises two . but we all can make a choice and each to there own . Good luck with your courses it will be the best thing you ever do All the best Littltree:thumbup:
  23. HI the tools are expensive if you are still employed then try to gradually build your tools before you do it so it may take you a year of grafting to get them but you will never look back doing it this way . I worked employed for a while with a company and crammed as many days overtime in as i could do so it enabled me to buy most of my tools before I said good by. There is different opions but mine is If you can say away from finance and hire contracts you will be glad you did as at least you don't have to worry when things go up or down, keep your direct debits to a min the more you have the bigger the money drain each month the more you have to earn to just stay in the black . To start with you don't need chippers or big trucks just a small van big enough for your tools is all you need . 99 percent of my customers are happy to burn or keep there brash only the odd smaller job i have to dispose of it for them. Keep all your receipts for any new tools you start to buy even if you are still employed at the time as you can use them later in your tax return as they are tools for your new business so they all count. Be perpaired to do all the little jobs that look rubbish these will earn you good money they ivy covered trees ,houses the cutting back ,the nettles and brambles do these jobs on a day rate so then you are on a winner as quite a lot of time these jobs look smaller then they really are so on a day rate you cannot loose out . The blower was one of the best bits of kit I ever brought it makes its money everyday . Got to go to work now All the best Littltree:thumbup:
  24. Well Well funny. I have just gone out and given a quote for a house just like that full of Ivy from roof to the floor all over . really looking forward to my ivy house got several days booked in to start with then when thats done its the garage thats completely covered in it they want completely off too. then the gates really nice people so more then happy to do the job for them . I find the best way to remove it with a flat tool to slide under it . the other day I did some on another house and it was so thick at the bottom I had to wedge things behind it to get it away from the wall then take the chainsaw to it in sections.
