HI there try not to be to hard on Izzy i am sure the morning after the night before will be good punishment in it self . when you were a lad I am sure you would of got up to all sorts of pranks similar to this . teens will be teens and they will do things like but I am sure a telling off and grounding for a couple of days is good enough is a fair punishment to fit the crime. 14 years old, young girls these days think they are 20 . Its hard being parents these days as kids try to grow up so fast they want to be adults before they are hardly out of kindergarten gone are the days were kids could just enjoy being kids and do kids stuff . Good luck with what ever you decide to do Littltree:

Hi there and welcome to the forum Go for it you are not to old to go into Arb my any means I am not far off 40 and female I love every minuet of it it was the best move i ever made. For years I was in working in the elderly care sector in nursing homes and hospitals . I now work outside everyday doing tree and garden care working for myself or for whoever needs a hand .O how I love it . More and more smaller company's are seeing the benefit of having a slightly older worker working for them as they tend to be very keen and reliable and really want to do the job . The courses you are doing will help you no end. Go for a job as a groundy to start with this will give you great exp you will use all the equipment and get to see how it all runs in commercial and domestic settings you will learn how to manage the traffic put out all the signs use the big chippers and stump grinders down to working in the private gardens for the elderly couple .After a little while if you get in with a nice company they will get you going up the trees and you can develop your new skills at your own pace . To get your foot in you will need to be very determined and don't give up it will take lots of phone calls to all your local tree company's and a determination not to be put off if you don't get in after the first 10 calls just keep on and use every opportunity Having said that don't let people take advantage of you . Remember you will have worked very hard to get your tickets in effort and ivestment , the graft you will be doing is worth a living wage it will not be amazing but a fair days work for a fair days wage. !! . In the mean time try to get as much practice in as you can on your saw do little jobs for friends the more hours handling time you can get on your saw the better. All the best Littletree:thumbup:

Well I wish you all the best with this one but as the others said it states suitable gloves so in effect they would have no grounds to sack you or anything else if you just refuse and say you are going to where gloves that are suitable for the job in hand . as there is nothing states they have to be Chainsaw gloves . Sometimes you just need to stand up for yourself but in a clam way and say no . I find that by standing my ground and not getting ruffled even if they start to rant works a treat All the best Littletree:thumbup:

Thanks Sam Wicked I loved working for you too, you were FUN to work for just a shame you are so far away . If I ever come down and stay for a week I will let you know well in advance . It was great to see you at the show thanks for cheering me on . My work is going well . My hard work and determination to make it is paying off and at the moment got a good stream of customers coming in and they are already asking me back for more as some of them have huge gardens so it can take several days bookings to complete each job . Love it Really hope you are doing ok too. Thanks Fi

Hi there and welcome to the world of Arb I am female too and not far off 40 years old and its the best choice I have ever made coming into Arb . If you are really determined and are willing to work hard you will do really well . I find now working for my self being a girl really gets more customers as I get lots of women ringing me to help them with there trees and gardens as they don't want a load of macho men and find it refreshing and an inspiration to them to have a female doing the work . I would suggest doing your CS38/39 as soon as you can this will help you and its the fun part of the job. most employers do like to see for grounding at least 30/31/ and 38 so you can assist the climber should the need arise. but if you get your 39 as well then you are off to a flying start . Go for a groundy job to get your exp and you will learn loads and if you have your 38/39 as a groundy then after a little while most company's will get you started on the climbing and you will slowly build your skills with them . You will meet some great fun people along the way . Go for it girl its the best fun you will ever have . Give it your all and don't give up even if you find it gets tough you will go through some ups and downs believe me you will but tough it out it will you as hard as nails . Work for different people it will give you a chance to exp different ways of working and doing things you will meet different people with so many different things to offer. All the best Littltree.

Hi Guys Thanks all so so much for your support i just got back today It was an amazing weekend .we all had had a wicked time . It was just really lovely to meet you all and get to all your faces on the fourm . Those poles were just excellent they were new to the show and were nice and smooth and quite soft.I liked pole 1 the best . Pole 2 was quite a bit fatter at the bottom making it thinner at the top and I had a good couple of slips on pole 2 I think most of us liked pole 1 better. Running up these poles is the best fun ever when you get to the top is the best feeling in the world . My mum was delighted when told her ,sadly she had to go into the Hospice a couple of weeks ago and cannot come with me anymore to the shows but she so wanted to me to do well so am just so happy to have made her day she use to love sitting in her wheelchair right up close to the poles to see all the action live. There was an excellent standard of climbing and all the other climbers were amazing and a really great bunch to climb with and really nice to get to know them. I am so looking forward to the start of the next pole climbing season . I think the next one is Pembroke then the Woodfest Big Thanks to Everyone Fi:thumbup:

I also have been looking into these payment machines as thought it would be an easy way to take payments rather then cheques .Well I was shocked by the cost of the rental of the thing ,it would work out OK for a shop owner but other then that i think they are a rip off . I found a better way for myself . Most of my customers have a computer and have Internet banking so I give them an option to pay me direct though there bank this works well as I can then check its gone in straight away . Other then that its just cash and the good old cheques . I would like one of those machines it would make life easier but at the cost they are wanting per month and you sign up for an 18 month contract for the pleaser of it . They can keep it Littltree:biggrin:

There seems to be loads of wasps this year . today I managed to disturbe one I was really lucky they did not all come out at once I was able to get away just in time . I was working up a steep slope doing some cutting. I knelt down for a second then I saw a couple of wasps bussing round me then I saw 10 and realized I was pritty much on top of a nest in the ground . I managed to get away just in time lucky they were to angry as I may well of been had by them. I am off to get the deadly can of Fome .. I have seen so many this year in the smallest and easy to step on places .I think I will keep a couple of the deadly cans of fome in my van for safe keeping . Littltree.

Hi I have a Marlow gecko rope and its nice to climb on. . I would say that you do have to treat it gently when pulling it though as the strands are not tightly woven .If it gets caught on snags it can pull the rope apart and sever the strands this happened on my first rope within a week it had done this . they did exchange it for me . my second gecko has faired a bit better but again the same problem is happening . When I buy another rope I will be going for a more expensive one as this one is not lasting very long. hope this helps Littletree:biggrin:

Hi I will be there Thurs /Frid and Sat Littltree:thumbup:

I have a long and shorter rope depending on tree hight . I climb on a purssic and have 2 crabs one on the prussic and the other on the eye. this way I cannot drop the rope . I tried the hitch climber set up and hated it . for me is purssic all the way I love it and it keeps it simple. Littltree:thumbup:

For me it depends on who and where I am working . for my Private clients its 8-5 on day rate I just work right through from stat to finish with 10 mins for a drink . If I compleat the job early then its still the flat day rate or agreed job price. For my sub work depends on what we agree as am quite flexible so the usual times are 8 till 5 or 5.30 ish based on a 9 hours day on a day rate some places its 7-4 on flat rate . For some of my other sub customers .I do a flat day rate between 8 -5 then I charge any hours before or after on an hourly rate as excess to day rate as one of my jobs that I do each week starts at 6am and always goes on for 13.5 hours with 10 mins for lunch so I make sure that day pays me well . Hi there the thing is did she sign a written contract with the date of your the next working visit for you to carry out the work and the price on the next years job . If it was just a verbal agreement and you just put it in your diry and just a verbal qote you may struggle as if she does not pay and you take her to small claims then unless there is anything written down as the work being done and future work booked in to do she may still go for the trespass and damages on a counter claim as she can say she know nothing about your second visit one year or the price Some years ago I took someone through small claims court myself I did win and it was well worth it but I had to work hard to dot all the i and cross all the Ts before I got to the table I really wish you all the best with this one All the best Littltree:001_smile:
