  1. Hi Alex a sponsor is a company that will put you forward to do the ticket and pay for the course this is the only way it can be done . but the way round it is either to go through a training company that find a sponsor for you and then you pay the company for it . or if you can find a sponsor ie the company you work for to put you forward then you can pay them back if they don't want to pay . Usually if you are lucky and are going to work for a company that want you to work on track side then they will pay for PTS for you no problems but if like myself want it to help yourself gain better chances of employment then you pay for it via sponsor. 3. Hi there the rules for a level 1 IRATA is that I have to work under the supervision a level 3 IRATA on site at all times so if a rescue was needed a level one could do it as there would be a level 3 on site . Thanks littletree
  4. Hi all I have just finished a great fun week doing my IRATA level one . it sure has been an action packed week . Its been an interesting week leaning whole new way of climbing with all those jammers and shunts . Really enjoyed the course hoping it may lead on to some interesting work climbing different structure's and places . Littletree
  5. Hi Billheath can you tell me anything about the goverment grant thing you mentioned above for the B+E car /trailer I did not know there was any grant avilable as I am also on a After 97 too Thanks Littletree
  6. I do climb alone as got some big Oak trees on the farm where I live so great for pratice on a sun aft. I allways let everyone know where I am and the down time and take my mobil phone up with me so it has never worried me . Littletree
  7. Any one putting in a good days work should get a fair days pay regardless of race ,sex or age. I hope this company gets found out and hauled up for it as there is at the very least the min wage he should be getting even with out tickets . I hope this poor chap gets a better company to work for soon. Littletree
  8. HI There I really hope you pass your 31 soon . Keep your determination and don't be put off you will get there in the end if you want it bad enough . I did my 31 a while ago and it was not easy I did 2 felling courses and worked my sox off practicing on logs and got loads of Small fells before I was ready to do my assessment . With these short courses its very hard to be ready for testing only after a few days of doing these cuts, for some the skills can come very quick but for others it can take a good while as with myself . I did my assessments in 2 parts so it was not to much all in one go on the day . My assesor was really nice and was happy if i needed to stop for any reason I just had to let him know . This job does require a good level of fitness if you are planning on doing this job full time as a groundy as if you are working for a company you will have to drag brash and stuff a chipper use there 460s and load heavy old logs on to the back of a 7.5 ton this cycle goes on all day long every day . I really wish you all the best and good luck . Littletree:biggrin:
  9. Sadly if you have given one customer a price for the job however long ago ,unless you have re agreed a new price after looking at all the new obstacles that you will have to deal with, then the first agreed price is the price they should pay . If you try to charge more without advising them first before you start on it then you are at a risk of making them really unhappy and refusing to pay the extra and also they may not put in good words for you when others ask them what company did your trees for you . If it were me in your situation and I new I had messed up the pricing I would just do the job really well with a smile for the first agreed price and say nothing . One Happy customer is 5 more one Unhappy customer is 10 less Hope this helps All the best Littletree.
  10. If you are doing small private jobs climbing at the weekend what would be the advice on having PL insurance to cover you ? There is no law on having it but whats the score say something should go wrong . my friends though they are not in this industry are telling me to get it at all costs What do you think ? Littletree:biggrin:
  11. Hi I did mine only a few weeks back . I have mild learning difficulties which affects my understanding of what is being asked /wanted sometimes its difficult for me to explain in words the answers or descriptions that I can see clearly in my head . My asses were told about it before hand and they were very good ,this was the same for all my assessments they were patient and they did everything they could to help get the best from me. don't worry your CS38 is the best assessment to do of them all you will find if you love climbing its not a difficult assessment just climb and enjoy it . There are a few questions but these happen as the assessment is going along so with each situation there is a few questions but its not hard as the situation itself gives you most of the answers as its all in context to what you are doing at each stage. Good luck and Enjoy Littletree:thumbup:
  12. Hi all I am one very happy girl . I passed my CS39 today it all went really well had a little problem with one of the felling cuts but it all came right in the end . I am just so happy to have got there its been an interesting path with many pot holes but with big determination and a will to keep going and not give in . I have finally got my cherry today. If there is anyone or company in the south west that might see this post I am looking for a chance to climb cut and climb my hart out . I have a passion and a love for my work and now need a little bit of help to get my feet off the ground as am new .I can work all a wide area all over Somerset ,Bristol , Taunton , down as far Longleat the other way . happy to do some trial days to see what you think . happy dragging and chipping and doing all the ground work as well as long as I get a chance to climb a bit each day . Thanks Littletree:thumbup:
  13. I am doing my Lantra chipper course on Mon I also did Lantra training /assessment for brushcutter too but did NPTC assessments for all my chainsaw and climbing tickets . I believe the training is exactly the same but with Lantra you do the assessment as you go in the one day . You could still do an NPTC assessment at a later date for the chipper with your lantra training should you ever want to but Lantra assessment is all you need for chipper burshcutter stump griding ect. 14. MS260 all the way its fast powerfull and the best saw I have ever owned . Littletree:thumbup:
  15. Wicked well done its the best feeling ever when you pass . when you get through 30/31 CS38 is the nicest one to do its fun to do the course and the assessment is not to hard as long as you just keep to the basic rules You did well to split up 30 and 31 I did this also, as its a big chunk to do them both together as there is alot to learn in both schedules . I did my 38 first week in Jan in the snow and it was fun from start to finish you will really enjoy it . I am on my CS39 course on Thursday . good luck and keep going you will never look back Littletree:thumbup:
  16. Working ouside ,chainsaws, and now climbing trees . I did my first high polard yesterday and it was amazing looking down on the street below from the top of the tree and working round it it was the best feeling ever. I am so pleased i decided to take this up I will never look back its the best job going . Littletree:thumbup:

  20. Hi all I have got myself a engraver to mark all my kit . I am looking at the carabinas and just want to check any do`s and don't`s with where on a carabina I can engrave /cannot engrave ? as I don't want it to affect the performance or the LOLER inspections . Any input on this would be helpful Thanks Littletree
  21. Thanks so much I will remember that. I think that part will be natural as if you don't feel right in your working position then you wont feel right to make the cut so it should work well making it not difficult . I think it was really good that NPTC added in the pole rescue it was great fun and it gives more to the employers with that added element . Thanks Littletree
  22. I started leaning my assessment schedule 4 weeks before the start of the course I went though it once every night . then as it got closer I got someone else to ask me the questions so I could give them the answers .its now 3 weeks to my next one so i will be starting on the next schedule tonight . Littletree
  23. Many thanks I will remember to keep my hands glued to the saw both of them . boy it took some many many hours to learn all the questions and answers .but it was so so worth it when it came today . I was so happy to pass with just the one course as felling and maintance took me a second course before I went for any assessments as it takes me longer with the learning side as have some learning disabilities so passing 38 was great a real achievement for me . I had a great assor he made me feel at ease and did not rush me so that really helped . I felt really sorry for him as he was standing in the snow all day long as he had another 2 before me and he was still smiling by the end of it . I may be lucky and get the same assor again for 39 now that would be nice . Thanks Littletree
  24. Cool many thanks I am going to need every bit of luck to be with me . but I am very determined so will get there I dont mind how hard I have to work the whole 100% goes into every day . Littletree
  25. Hi there Nno I am all Girl . I do pole climbbing for fun but have been working my way though my NPTC certs as I do ground work at the moment but would like to climb in the industry as well . Littletree
