  1. Just got back from a cracking week of climbing at the Royal welsh Those 100 footers are just excellent fun . I thought it would be really hard but its not much different to the 80 footers but you do notice it just a little bit as you are getting to the bell:biggrin: . There was some excellent climbing times on the 100 footers from the lads . I came home with 3 first places and 1 second place so was delighted and am still beaming ear to ear . . My best 2 climbs were 24 and 26 seconds to the top 100 feet my worst was a poor 33 on the 100 . my best time ever on an 80 was at Harrogot at 15.06 Looking forward to the APF I have got lots of training to do to bring my times down into the 14 range as I want to catch up with the really fast lads and be hot on there heals . See you all at the APF Newbury and maybe Pembroke. Littletree:thumbup:

I should of started doing tree work years ago . Its defiantly the best job going even when its raining ,snowing this job puts a very big smile on my face everyday I do it . The other day I did another job and it was ivey removal on a garage roof and walls and hedge trimming back . when done it was the most lovey prepared ploughmans lunch ever . Love it Littletree:thumbup:

  6. Hi my understanding of these terms are as follows . they are different . When you are subcontracted you are hired as self employed by the main contractor that took on the job in the first to provide your service to them Ie grounding or climbing for the day /week month. As a subby You might have to provide your own equipment depending on the agreement between you and the main contractor. Also as a subby you agree your own day rate and payment terms with the main contractor before you take on the job. Free lancer is just another term usually used by a individual offering there services to different company's to use there services ie grounding /climbing or what ever service they are offering . Hope this helps Littletree:thumbup:
  7. Hi Alex Have sent you a PM . I think it will be perfect for you . Littletree
  8. I find the Stihl chaps very effective for venting they have nothing over the bum but are type C so all round protection but then you have zips up the legs so you then can slip out of them easy when I am doing jobs that dont chainsaw protection and back on quick when you need them they are the coolist trousers I have warn so far. 9. Good luck with your new lad Steve ,hope one of them is what you are looking for and all will be good for the both of you . Did they responded too the add on here ? Littletree
  10. Yes I reckon you are right underneath all that. He probably a really decent chap to work with .when he finds a person he likes they would become a really good team . Littletree:thumbup:
  11. I would say go for it if you can offer extra services do it . Times are hard the more services you can offer the better off you will be .At the end of the day Don't worry what other people think that the last of your worries . Its what you want to offer for your business and your pocket. Go for it and good luck Littletree:thumbup:
  12. Definitely an a good job description very frank and to the point. I think he will get someone to do it as it seems there is a lot of desperate people wanting to get there foot in the door and will do it for nothing and work under any conditions to start with My personal view is on the employment of others is I would want to give them work conditions that I would be happy to work under myself. I would want someone that would work hard for me with with a cheerful face and happy to do whats needed with a passon for there work, working to the best of there ability. This is the way I work so would expect this in return . Some of the conditions in this add I would not expect anyone working for me to work under I believe people are human and should be treated accordingly. Littletree:thumbup:
  13. Wow that really is some qualls and exp . I reckon if you have some tools and a saw get yourself in the local paper and go it alone so then you can get paid what you want for the jobs you do . you could then add the day here and there with sub work at a bit lower rate to make up any short fall . Littletree:thumbup:
  14. I have seen less then 56. I worked with a chap on 50 pd and have heard about another lad getting 40 . I personaly feel these rates are to low . If I was ever to employee anyone I would never expect anyone to work for me for those rates as I would want to pay the person working for me a fair days pay for a fair days work that way I can expect the person to give me 100 effot in return for a fair days pay . Littletree.
  15. I must say these are prity hight rates for a supermarket they must be really having trouble getting people . Littletree:thumbup:
  16. I feel its a question of what you rather be doing If you enjoy the climbing more then say working for Tesco then If they are paying 11 ph for a night shift then its a choice you have to make as sadly the climbing is going to be less. If you cannot aford to work for 7 to 9ph then its off to Tesco . Littletree
  17. I reckon your best bet would be to take some work for middle avrage pay for the industry at the moment for a climber with good exp and then if they like you and your work after a while you could try to re neg your day rate with them .this way you would at least be working and doing the job you love doing . Littletree:thumbup:
  18. Hi there it is hard to find really well paid work at the moment . Over time the wages have been pushed down with the ecomomy . From my own exp working as an employee and self employed . These are the sort of wages I have come across in the industry For good fast climbers working as employed, council type work street trees i have seen 70 to 85 per day but I have also seen newer climbers climbing for 65 per day . I have seen a wage 100 for a climber that I worked with he was employed . He was good and quick he pulled in the company lots of money . For self employed climbers just subbing I have come across rates of around 100 per day . and for newer climbers I seen 70 to 80 Working for yourself on private jobs then the sky is the limit. Sadly times are hard but I do completely agree with you in one sense . I myself don't work for peanuts either, as by working for peanuts you push down everyones else's wages that come in after you . I set my day rate at a middle average rate for the job I do ,not top wack but not bottom either. I have come across people that will work for really really low silly amounts of money but feel that it does not benefit either the worker or employer as the employee working for peanuts could will feel underpaid and under valued and not want to do the work or want to pull there wait and the person employing them will feel that there employee is slacking and has no interest in the job and both will end up unhappy with each other as the result. Hope you find some work soon All the best Littletree:thumbup:
  19. I love the head cam it really gives a good view of what you see when you go up . excellent footage excellent time too. Littletree:thumbup:
  20. Hi High Scale thanks for post I will give them a go it will be nice to get it the right way up Thanks Littletree:thumbup:
  21. Hi Bob, yes its the best fun ever I am looking forward to the 100 feet ones . I have not done these yet so they will be an interesting climb for me .I think that last 20 foot extra pole is going to be fun . . You can do it on work spikes no problem all you need to enter the comp is a set of normal work side spikes a harness, and helmet, gloves . Then you need contact the organizer for the entry forms . For some of the comps you can do it on the morning but its best to check so you are not disappointed . Then when you arrive your kit will just be checked over to make sure its safe for use . If you Just want to have a go not as a competitor but as a member of the public then Newbury is the place to go in Sept . The general public can sign up to have a go and the kit is provided for them . You need to sign up in the morning to be able to do this as the places for the day go fast as there is set times in the day for the general public . Littletree:thumbup:
