    Am I unusual...

You ol' charmer We used to do ok on the private jobs for drinks and snacks and even doing street trees we were generally well catered for. But that was going back a bit . I wonder if having a woman on the crew made a difference? Even my dad, who I live with, can't understand why I'm bothering with the Highway blokes outside.

    Am I unusual...

You're not the first person who's said that
  6. ... In that I make tea for workmen??? We've got a lot of highways work taking place outside and in the general area at the moment, and they frequently do 10 hours plus a day. I can - just about! - remember back to doing street tree work and I know how much a cuppa is appreciated, so I'm quite happy to make a few teas or coffees for them if I'm in. It only takes a couple of minutes and costs a couple of pence, so why doesn't anyone else bother? I was chatting to one bloke and he said that in 12 weeks, only one other person had made them drinks. Am I the only one who does this? I can't be, surely? Or am I just wierd?
  7. A little knowledge and a good ident' book by the laptop is a mean combination I had to ID some N solanderi when I was surveying last year and they have a lot of similar characteristics.
  8. That second pic with eveyone's heads in the air is funny
  9. That must've been an amazing experience to walk amongst those giants. Have you got any more pics you can post?
  10. If I was interested in the vacancies I'd go directly to their 'site and do exactly that. But it doesn't look too professional posting links that don't work, does it? I know I occasionally do, but I'm not recruiting
  11. Jeez, that used to be part of the area I covered! It's horrendous and inexcusable but you do kind of get a bit blase about things like that in London. I once tried to break up a fight on a double decker when someone pulled a knife out. And the fight broke out over...? A free newspaper!
  12. That makes me so mad to hear things like that!!! The most vunerable members of our society should be taken care of, not victimised by some theiving scrote who will no doubt get sod all for this poor woman's jewellery. I bet it must have had lots of sentimental value for her as well, far more than it's monetary worth. I hope she recovers quickly and doesn't end up fearing and mistrustful of everyone.
  13. Leave it as wildlife habitat at the back of the garden?
  14. It's not the best of ads' for a company that the links supplied don't work
  15. Top choice, that man! Brian, cherries have somewhat similar bark to Rowans with lots of obvious lenticels (those raised bits on the bark), but they have clusters of buds in whirls around the twig that are typically burtsing into many garish shades of flower about now
  16. Hi Brian, it looks very much like a Sorbus from the aucuparia group - a Rowan / Mountain ash. The large lenticels on the bark and the retained stalks from the fruit umbels are good ident' keys in winter.
  17. If the £millions that they predict the new HS line will cost was invested in improving our existing infrastructure then we wouldn't NEED the new link It's nothing but legalised vandalism Thanks for posting the links T and TW.
  18. A little taster to whet the outing appatite from Kew today:
  19. I've never come across it before but it looks like a good system. I wish I'd thought of it I wonder how durable it is?
  20. Aha, you were doing that hyperthetical thing And there was me all concerned for your panicking selves! I used to be a right pain when I met my contractors on site and I always asked to see their SS RA with all the relevant contact details.
  21. ... And they didn't know where to find you after such a clear description as that ??? The fools.... Hope everything was ok in the end and nuthin too serious?

    Arb Talk

That's definately warranted for over use of emotion in a public forum
