  1. Couldnt agree more. Bring on the cold. I overheat even on cool days. All equipment fine.
  2. and that is one of the fastest routes to killing your turbo, and generally knackering an engine. If it wont start in the cold, you have aproblem which needs sorting.
  3. Those tdi landrover engines shouldnt need heater plugs anyway- i almost never use mine. The 200tdi was an awesome starter.
  4. If it started no bother with the lift pump given a helping hand it would suggest that the fuel is not staying pressurised in the injector pump. A non return valve wouldnt necessarily be man enough to maintain the high pressure your engine requires, which would suggest that your internal injector pump seals may be on the way out, remedied by a pump rebuild (not horrifically expensive BTW). It could be that the lift pump is getting worn too, but i see this as less likely as it worked manually. (unless there is wera to the operating arm making the action less effective, altough i doubt this)
  5. Is it a tdi engine steve? A tdi should always have a big puff of unburnt smoke when it starts darren. Thinking about this steve, you could take the injector pump off yourself and have it looked at by a diesel electric specialist- they would be able to tell you exactly what is wrong (if anything) and advise on a repair. It could be the stop solenoid not releasing in the pump (which could be a loose contact anywhere from the ignition key to the pump, or the solenoid itself). It could be the govenor in the pump playing up (these are usually a replaceable part in the top of the pump) or it could be the internal seals in the pump starting to go. The fact that you are getting it going at all would suggest to me that it isnt needing a new pump, as when the injector pump goes its usually a case of the thing not working at all. Have you looked at the lift poump? maybe thats getting weak. What does the car run like when its going-fine or down on power? what colour smoke comes out of the exhaust? what is the oil on the dipstick looking like? (outside chance of head gasket probs)
  6. Steve there is a fuse and a relay in the glow plug circuit- have the relay checked first before any expensive repairs........and dont ever go on about how crap landies are over jap stuff, i cab get a new fuel pump for £600:sneaky2:
  7. I only found out on friday, and i didnt have a card on me, so next week ill get some.
  8. Good news if you are after knives for vermeer chippers. Genuine knives have come alot down in price, and there is a further offer on at the moment:thumbup:: Vermeer UK
  9. Yeah its a good idea, but it is painfully slow.
  10. MAny happy returns mate- when did you reach that age:sneaky2:
  11. NOught wrong with old gear, its worn out gear that is the problem. My defender is 15 years old, and has left me in the lurch once in 8 years of ownership, my chipper is even older and the lift pump went the other day. I had a new one off deutz within 24 hours, fitted it, and it fell apart after about 10 minutes. I rented a greenmech to get me out of the proverbial, and deutz sorted me with another lift pump under warranty the next day. no loss of earnings, and it took me about 20 mins to fit the pump. Dont know if any of that is relevant, but there you are.
  12. BAD news mate. Very sorry to hear that. Any more details- where you are etc, what the kit was. Its a long shot but you never know who's looking.
  13. I had the auto oil filler for a while, and it was cool, except the oil did go through it pretty slowly. It got smashed in the woods and TBH i prefer the normal spout now.
  14. chip the lot, sell it as mulch, and invest in some decent timber. Lelandii is atrocious stuff, and elm doesnt burn brilliantly either. Sorry.
  15. Fair play to your dad- the colleague needed telling! Hope its better soon mate.
  16. Ranger matt, I am in no way trying to out do your injury or belittle it or anything like that, or even try to appear tough, but I worked on for about 40 minutes to finish what i was doing and then went home and dropped the trailer off before driving myself to casualty after I did this: I only posted this because i am AMAZED that an ambulance was called, and that an ambulance actually came. I think that whoever authorised it in the council should be re-educated. We are bombarded with stuff about not wasting time on 999 calls.
  17. RangerMatt, are you on the wind up about the 999 call? i mean- an ambulance for a finger injury?????????
  18. veg oil. New, old, whatever- not had any problems, even using it on a 4' bar. Doesnt get much cheaper or more eco friendly I reckon.
  19. I abhor apple products, but not due to reliability or anything, however I would actually recommend one if you arent that computer literate and dont want to go changing it all about....but they are quite pricey i think.
