  1. ooops! Well spotted Ade
  2. You must have deformed feet mate.
  3. They were known as the thinking mans defender when they first came out- a way of making farmer palmer feel a tiny bit better about himself, but they were also known as the poor mans range rover:001_tt2: Do you know anyone who has one then darren:confused1:
  4. Okay sean, you know what i was on about with the permanent 4x4 thing, and yes you are tecnically correct, but the set up on switchable 2 or 4 wheel drive vehicles means that those that arent permanent 4x4 are limited in their set up, and BTW are also designed primarily for ON road use. As far as engaging the second (front) prop, on defenders, toyota landcruisers and possibly others this is permanently engaged, and a centre diff and hi-lo range are controlled by the small lever (although i suspect you know this:sneaky2:) In response to you second hair splitting paragraph, you know perfectly well that when i say it has no ability to carry, i mean that for something the size and power of a hilux, its carrying capacity is woeful. Mine couldnt even legally carry a ton, and as for towing, you are in agreement anyway- they cannot tow very much. I am sorry you think that i am slating toyotas for the sake of it. You couldnt be further from the truth. This is a forum where people can express their views. A question was asked, and I expressed my views, that are formed from experience not opinion by the way. I still disagree that the hilux is the best all round. However i look at it, I faiul to agree with you. It isnt endowed with any more seting than any other 4x4s, and less than some. It doesnt have ability to tow as much as others, it cant carry as much as others, it wont last as long as others, it wont keep its value as long as others, and it isnt any more comfortable (IMO) than others, including a defender IMO (although i accept that many people find defenders very uncomfortable.) I would have a toyota landcruiser based pick up over a defender any day, but i would never touch another Hilux again. I bent mine, it rusted like hell, had endless electrical problems, and the delaers/ customer service worse than atrocious. You say no pick up can tow as much as a 4x4 with permanent drive to both axles.....what is a truck cab defender if not a pick up, or a high capacity pick up land rover. Once again I repeat- i was expressing an opinion based on my experience (which is not limited to one vehicle btw) in response to a question.
  5. To a point you are correct, but not with these sorts of figures....that is simply devaluing the industry.
  6. Whats RIGHT with a hilux:lol:.....as a 4x4 they are a compromise- in the wet they slide around for a past time unladen. They are 2wd half the time too!! The old ones, although quite agricultural, were useless for carrying, useless for towing, uneconomical and rusted faster than a rusty thing. I had one, I know. They arent any more reliable than any other 4x4, unless you only use them well within their capabilities. The new ones seem better on paper- however, they are fitting them with massive engines, yet they still have no real ability to tow or carry to speak of, and from what i have been told, they are having reliability issues- at least the old ones kept going. They were designed in a country where there is no mud!! And dont start me on the ridiculous styling:001_rolleyes:. They are little more than a car IMO. You did ask.
  7. I agree. Excersise is the key:thumbup1:
  8. HOw big are the greenhouse and other shed? If they are small it would be cheaper to trash/ remove and replace them then drop the crown off into the neighbours garden than it would cost in wages/ equipment to dismantle it saving the targets.
  9. That is an atrocious towing capacity. An ifor tipping trailer weighs 1 of those 2.5 tons empty!! They really need to beef up the chassis on those Jap motors, then they might be worth a thought for serious work.
  10. Your metabolism is slowing Dave, so to compensate you will need to not only cut out parts of your diet, as you are, but also increase your exercise too.
  11. THUD! You look justifiably chuffed mate:biggrin:

    Pine Hell

    Top stuff Matt!
  13. I put up with this for years and years, and seem to have finally cured it! (it'lll probably start leaking now i have said that!!) I made sure that the doors made a good seal with the rubbers, I had to bend that top in ever so slightly, and shape the front edge inwars to make sure, and then I siliconed along the top of the windscreen frame where it meets the roof, bringing it round the first 6 inches or the door seal too. Having holes in the gutter drilled for the roofrack has meant endless leaks- in the morning about a cupful of water would run out of the channel behind the headlining above the dor an soak me. So i got some "Plumbers Gold" sealent/ adhesive, and put a hefty coating along the outside gutter- as has been mentioned above the meagre sealant applied at the factory soon wears out and leaks like hell! So far so good- no leaks yet!
  14. Thats more than my 300tdi defender!! 6k ought to get you a pretty decent crewcab landy, or any 4x4 TBH. Going on the fuel returns of your vitara, I would be fairly confident that most of the trucks mentioned above would be perfectly fine, and all would have the capability to do what you need, so long as they are well shod that is! I personally favour land rovers. My hilux was okay, but not really man enough for extensive heavy work (i bent that one), but i would say I havent really been that impressed with troopers or L200s. The Ford ranger is worth considering for certain.
  15. Paddy met Mick in the street and Mick said: 'Paddy will you draw your bedroom curtains before making love to your wife in the future?' "Why?" Paddy asked. 'Because,' said Mick 'all the street was laughing when they saw you making love yesterday' Paddy replied 'Silly buggers! - the laugh's on them. I wasn't home yesterday!!'
  16. Thats a bit crap mate.
  17. I got to 40k earlier..gonna try again.
  18. What i said isnt true anyway- I would NEVER admit to knowing anyone with a townhouse in Bath!
  19. I didnt think i would hook anyone.
  20. Lovely part of the country. I grew up in Dorset, nr wimborne.
  21. Moi??
  22. Never mind how they got it Lee- the 'they' that earned the wealth did so by usually being what would nowadays be seen as unacceptable or underhand or inhuman practices. Some gained their wealth through purely humanitarian or inventive methods. At the end of the day, the old money nowadays inherited their wealth (those that still have any that is!), so to bang the drum of social injustice and ill-gotten gains has really worn a bit thin. Besides, it is also worth noting that practices seen as wrong nowadays, were acceptable in the past, eg when we had an empire. It is also worth noting that alot of the gentry in this country were also the captains of industry and war that made this country what it is and allowed the systems we have in place nowadays to come into fruition in the first place. Anyway, talking about money is a bit vulgar isnt it?
  23. I think thats a real shame......it ought to be alot more. Many of my good friends have had to sell loads of land to pay death duties, and now are forced to scratch a living on much smaller holdings, some as small as 10,000 hectares, and I have 3 friends who have had to sell one of their estates altogether, in one case only leaving them with one estate in the highlands, and a small townhouse in Bath. I think its bang out of order that the great unwashed should be allowed to force this state of affairs in the name of liberalism.
