  1. hama- i have just been reading the very same article!!!
  2. Heard about this on radio4 yesterday. The worst bit was the grower in this country who basically said he couldnt see what all the fuss was about, and how hard it was to grow xmas trees!!!!!!!
  3. Never touched one until last week when a ms361 was [playing up. Changed it over and it was sorted. I have to say i was pretty surprised!
  4. My post was a bit more general than my mates particular case. It is the principal of it that I was commenting on TBH. When it comes to small print etc Paul is the king.
  5. yawn.
  6. HOw come you cant get BFGs?
  7. A friend of mine has just renewed his PL insurance. He asked me for some pointers and i basically gave him links to Trust, Arbinsure, Your insurance group, and the banner on Arbtalk advertising 'insurance for tree surgeons'(or whatever it is). Well he has been trading for 25+ years, and has only ever done 30/31. So trust have said they will put a 5m height restriction on his policy, although a letter from a training provider stating that he IS competent would suffice without 38/39. Bit weird but there you go. The other companies said they didnt care if he had the tickets, and one company said they had never heard of cs30, 32, 38 or 39, and what was this cs business. I mean WTF???? They all also told him that he didnt need EL if his employee had their own. One company said they would beat trusts quote by £100 straight off, and still didnt require proof of training, and that trust made it up as they went along. WTF are we supposed to believe? With all this differing information and copanies slagging each other off, and all having different criteria etc, I wonder if any of them would actually ever pay out, and furthermore, why should we all bother paying for training and insurance, esp given that in 25 years my mate has never had an accident. In 14 years i have never had one either. HSE and best practice aside (as these are the obvious reasons for training and insurance), WHY?? i mean without proof of training to the insurer, any tom dick and harry or ne'erdowell can buy insurance and when asked can produce it, thus giving the impression that they are bona-fide etc etc. Views?

  9. Welcome to AT Dan- excellent carvings there. thanks for posting the pics.
  10. Nice one Ace. Been on larch alot myself recently. It makes a nice change to section out timber for me, as alot of my hardwood I cut through and through.
  11. MASSIVE thanks to Timber Cutter Dartmoor. He has really got things back on track for me this week after my beloved old friend ms361 chainsaw went AWOL. TCD you know what you have done, im not going into it here, but suffice to say it was WAY beyond the call of duty mate, and i am seriously indebted to you for you kindness. Thank you:001_smile:
  12. My beloved 361 has just been taken from the side of the road.
  13. 5.5 or 5.2 are ok. After half the chains life you can switch to a 4.8mm file.
  14. Get some BFGs ade.
  15. Yes- perfect. It wont rot, itll look gorgeous, and as it is being used outside, and has had some drying (6 months is enough to air dry a 1" softwood board) it wont move to much, if at all.
  16. ME too. Used to run a 130 with a 200, and that was on the button even in snow etc too, and it was high mileage ex utility.
  17. Ive said it before, and i say it again- BFG muds are the best out there for utility vehicles- all of what dean has said, plus they last for ages, as they have a very hard compound (as do all michelins; BFG being a division of michelin).
  18. I hate bungees. The £4 nylon things are great. i have one of each.
  19. Take some pics of it without the side plate on so we can see mate.
  20. But you really really dont need glow plugs on 200 or 300tdi engines. Even if you take them out the engine will still start under a foot of snow.
  21. Is it seated properly on the sprocket?
  22. Haha yeah those buggers smoke loads!
  23. What do you want to do with it?
  24. It does work, and is a very old way of treating wood. You are essentially tarring it using the resin from the wood. Why bother with larch though- it doesnt rot!!
