  1. There are better 4x4s out there steve. I havent heard alot of relly good stuff about l200s when put to heavy work. A ranger would prob be better, and cheaper i believe too. They tow really well, and have a good payload. As you now i dont really rate anything other than the green oval for work ability (payloads, towing abilitty etc etc) but having used most of them at some point I would recommend the ranger (or mazda b2500) in its place. Well worth looking at. Parts for mitzis are expensive. Worth taking into account.

    4x4?

Interesting thread. I would have one of those toyota pick ups over a defender if they were availabl over here. The jap offerings in Gb are just not man enough for the job in my opinion. For some reason al the jap pick ups seem to be made on chassis that are a joke- the rear aend of hiluxes are made from pissy little channel, and IIRC the back of an isuzu trooper is paper thin 4x2 box section. Yet they build the Landcruiser like a battle ship and fill it with seats. Although they have a reputation for ultra reliability, I dont find this to be the case. Once these jap things are put to HARD work day in day out they fail in spectacularly expensive ways, and on the sterength issue again, I bent my hilux in the middle. I have to say that i believe landrovers have an excellent engine and drivetrain, but is a victimof its own ruggedness- the attitude being that they will take anything you throw at them , and therefore do so, resulting in abuse and subsequent necessary repair. How i see it is that in the UK if you want what is basically a glorified tractor you get a landrover, if you want a glorified car that has 4x4 you get a hilux. If you want a cheap 4x4 you buy a ranger or l200 etc. Where landrover fall down is all the crap they bolt onto it- rubbish electrics, poor quality interior fittings and bodywork fabrication. I am thiking about replacing the chassis of my defender in the next 12-24 months with a galvy one. The garage said it would be better built, as LandRover build with a 1/2 " tolerance!!!! In a car (and jap 4x4 etc etc)these tolerances are fractions of millimetres, thus with landrovers you get the famous leaks and draughts etc etc. I went wading with my bro in his landcruiser and the water was over the windows, yet none came in. WTF are LR playing at. This is the point- with a defender you are buying a glorified tractor, end of- refinements havent been discovered at Lode lane yet!
  3. existence itself:blushing:
  4. association of professional foresters. Allegedly.
  5. I did mine before it was nicked recently, and i dont remember 2 springs. Besides, if a spring isnt snapped you dont really need to replace them, unlike the rubbers which get worse over time.

    46 Today!

    Happy birthday pete!!
  7. water or squash, and in the summer a couple of bottles of lucozade.
  8. Where are you melvyn? Thats some snow!!!
  9. Its all total nionsense, the only winners being the insurance company. They happily ask for cs units, but never for copies of (for example) a valid driving licence (you have to drive to the job) valid licence to work on a road if necessary, etc etc. In 13 years i have never come close to claiming, a mate who has been trading for 27 years has blown over 14k on insurance- never ckaimed. I dont know anyone personally who has EVER used their insurance. And it IS NOT a legal requirement.
  10. Good luck finding your way through the bull and nonsense that goes with it. TBH i am almostof the belief that it is a TOTAL waste of money, after recent experiences of a mate who changed companies. The law on it is diferent acording to each company, their pricing structure has no structure, and they are all so desperate for your business they will go to almost any lengths- eg categorically ststing one thing, then renaging onthat statement and changing totally what they will or wont cover, with or without proof of qualifications, and for varying prices. Total nightmare. Good luck.
  11. The return is far higher than firewood. If you mill to an inch you ont have to wait much longer to get the return either, and you will still get firewood from the milling waste!
  12. UPm tilhill, Euroforest, anglo-welsh timber, and there should be a load in the forest of dean too.
  13. Yuck!! Makes a lovely sarnie though!
  14. 73/ cube? I know you say its seasoned, but unless you have had it stored for a very long time in very careful environment, then it wont be seasoned, as timber just doesnt dry out in big logs in my experience, and you can get softwood pulp for £17/ metre over here. But best of luck anyway.
  15. neither do it for me TBH. Nigella needs braces on those nashers, and like ady says- that isnt a flatering pic of allsop.(who is she anyway:blushing:?)
  16. Its stamped in the housing just by the exhaust on most if nt all stihl rear handled saws, and there is a riveted plate near the oil tank on huskies. If your stihl number is obscured by exhaust carbon dont worry, that wipes off.

  19. Is it not just held on with four bolts through the rear x-member?
  20. i really like that. No good to me at the mo, but an excellent truck.
  21. haha yeah!
  22. No need- we all have a brilliant mental picture of freelander mayhem!

    Hand cream

dairy uddercream. Beats EVERY hand cream out there. It is designed to stop cows udders cracking whilst out in the cold and wet 24/7. Believe you me it works brilliantly, even on my hand which cracks after about 10 minutes in muddy water any time of year(dermatitis from mechanics) and makes the likes of neutrgena and e45 etc seem like you arent doing anything.
