  1. There are many sizes of bags available - at a cost (BAG Supplies Ltd :: Packaging Suppliers covering the UK and Europe) We use barrow bags for our logs but have also used them for general rubbish including hedge clippings etc. Other options could include using dust bins (I could imagine wheelie bins being useful ) or some old tarpaulins (lay out on ground, throw waste on, gather corners up and carry off)

  11. Eucalyptus is planted extensively in some warmer countries (especially madagascar) to produce firewood and charcoal (their primary fuel for cooking). However the plantations contain absolutely no wildlife value what so ever!!

  13. Get some of your regular happy customers to write some reviews of your services and products and get them printed in the next publication in response to the one already printed. This guy, as pointed out already doesn't understand the whole firewood business and he has already admitted that himself. He has pointed out issues that a lot of face on a daily basis any way - competing with the "cowboys", and by writing the way he has makes him a "journalist cowboy" in my books.
  14. some basic figures to consider Expenditure p.a. 200T timber @ £50/T = £10,000 Running costs vehicle machines fuels rent insurances repairs/renewals etc etc £7,000 Total £17,000 Income 200T = 300 cubic metres @ £100 = £30,000 Profit = £13,000 That's a lot of work for £13k a year

  21. We have a Rayburn 345W, which will only take wood as fuel - no coal or smokeless fuels - and is connected to a thermal store (same as accumulator). No probs keeping it in over night providing we put some decent lumps of hardwood in (oak or beech works best). The thermal store is also heated by a log burner. We can manage to run up to 12 rads and it provides mains pressure hot water. I think they are brilliant!
  22. We have had a Rayburn and log burner for 3 years now, averages out at about 15 cube for the whole year. Rayburn is on 24/7 for the winter and then just afternoon/evening rest of year. Just had 14 solar pv panels fitted so electricity bill should come down by half - and that's our only fuel bill!
  23. No employees, just me. My yard is on a field 500 yards up a track (with two locked gates) behind remote farm with cctv coverage all over the farm as buildings rented out to various other small businesses. Get on fine with everyone on site. Machines locked away in container from now on, will have to look in to lockable caps or making cages to fit over engines, and some kind of remote cctv set-up Either it was pure mindless vandalism or some body has really gone out of their way to cause problems! As far as competitors go I buy timber off afew local tree surgeons and off the local estate and have never had any cause to think I may have upset anybody Oh well one of life's little mysteries.............. Thanks for all the replies guys, hopefully no damage caused any way
  24. No run-ins with any one what so ever. Get on fine with other local firewood guys and not under cutting any one - in fact prob the most expensive firewood around!
