  1. How much weight is there likely to be in 3 x tonne bags full of logs? Just make sure you dont go over your weight limits! You may also want to consider, if you havent already, the need for covering the tops of the bags with something like a cargo net otherwise you are more likely to get pulled over! Even if you arent legally overloaded, driving around with what looks like larger loads with tail gate down is more likely to look dodgy to the authorities
  2. take some photos of your log pile and advertise it on here or ebay etc at say £500 for the lot, buyer takes all
  3. What size is the timber, how much is there and where is it? Somebody should take it for firewood. Would make excellent kindling too!
  4. If I wanted to keep it a secret do you really think I would have started a thread on here
  5. No not at all! My retailer told me that having them re-soled wasnt an option so found out the UK company that acts for meindl. This is Bramwell International. I emailed them and described what the issue was. They asked me to post the boots to them for assessment. I was warned there may be a cost for repairs. The boots were then sent to Meindl in Germany and then returned to me repaired. This is how i contacted them Contact | Meindl UK and Ireland
  6. Big thank you to Meindl for repairing my Woodwalker Boots. After about 14 months the soles split open (in the heel end) and the rubber compound disintegrated. The rest of the boots (tread, leather etc) were still in good condition. Eventually returned them to Meindl and they came back with brand new soles (different to original ones), new rubber rands, new inners and new laces! All sorted for no charge! Good service under warranty
  7. I have a Thor 13T road tow splitter with 4way knife and hire it with me as operator for £30 per hour with a minimum charge of 4 hours, providing i can drive right up to the timber. Thats all inclusive within 10 miles of my yard, further than that mileage of £1/mile

  9. Technical difference hard v soft woods What is the difference between a hardwood and a softwood? - HowStuffWorks
  10. Not sure if these are any good. 3-4ft diameter 7-8ft long Lime
  11. TCD, just wondering how many of these comments were useful in relation to your original post
  12. What size are you looking for, height and diameter?
  13. I use barrow bags all the time. They are relatively easy to use for shifting large volumes of logs in to awkward places. Lots of customers like the fact I can get them through gates, up and down steps etc and tip straight in to a shed or garage. I tend to do minimum order of 3 barrow bags at £25 each and the cost goes down a bit the more you order (hardwood). Lots of customers dont have space to store several cubic metres of logs and are quite happy to buy in smaller quantities. Still cheaper and more convenient than buying nets from a forecourt. BAG Supplies Ltd :: Packaging Suppliers covering the UK and Europe barrow bags are 0.18 cubic metre MCA-Kingstone barrow bags are taller and are 0.2 cubic metre and also have a loop underneath which is useful when emptying The key is having a good sack truck!
  14. I have Meindl Woodwalkers for groundwork/firewood and find them very comfy for wearing all day
  15. you may be better off including your location
  16. need to replace piston and cylinder on my 42 special which i believe to be ported. Does anyone know where the best place to get one from is? I have read it is the same as the 246 but dont know for certain. thanks
  17. I once read a MET Office paper saying that they can be about 95% accurate for a 24hour forecast, 75% accurate for a further 24 hours and about 50-60% accurate for afurther 24 hours after that unless there are specific well known weather patterns in play etc. So forecasting after 3 days is likely to be no more than 50% accurate ! Predicting 3-6 months in advance - forget it!
  18. There is a map here Pests and diseases - Ash dieback (Chalara fraxinea)
  19. Thanks Craig. What sort of money are we looking at for tractor and forwarder for a day? Dont think I would have enough at the moment but that may change! How much could be shifted in a day (in and around a 12 acre block of woodland)?
  20. looking to borrow/hire (or poss buy 2nd hand) largeish logging arch or similar. Only needed for a few days near Ruthin, North Wales, to shift some 3m lengths of cherry/beech/douglas fir. Just want to avoid dragging them over the stone track. Can drive up to them with L200 pick-up cheers Dave
