  5. We have a mixed woodland in north wales with an area of Douglas Fir. There are about 60 trees with an average dbh of 60-80cm. Access is good with forest track close by. I was wondering if any body could give me an idea what it might be worth as standing timber? Or should I get contractors in just to fell and then try sell it straight to a saw mill? Open to all suggestions at the moment! Cheers, Dave

  7. might be worth adding what quantity you are looking for and what your location is
  8. If you have the space in a field, get a small poly tunnel erected and store logs in there. Seasoned in less than 6 months.
  9. Free delivery up to 5 miles (min 1 cube) and then add on extra charges depending how far it is and how long it will take. If some one wants a price for a cube to be delivered 20 miles away I explain it is £30 more due to transport costs and an hour of my time for the round trip. They usually don't call back to place an order, which is fine as we always sell out. Longer delivery trips are a pain and the extra charges should probably be even more. We do have one customer 22 miles away but they buy 4 cube a year at £110/cube plus £15 for the delivery - they struggle to get dry seasoned 18" logs from anywhere else
  10. Or pay somebody with the kit to come and do it for you, or just provide a good splitter and operator
  11. I have done a bit of lettering/sign writing with a router. Just takes a bit of practice. This is in elm, later sanded and lettering painted
  12. When using a moisture meter, I select a number of logs at random (when first split), take readings on each one (both ends) and write down the date and MC on the end of the log and then put them back on the pile/stack. I check them every few weeks and write note the MC levels on the log. This gives a good indication how well they are seasoning. Every now and then split one in half and take readings from the centre - it can be surprising how long it takes for lumps of hardwood to get down to 25% MC in the middle!
  13. Ours goes out with operator for £25/hour plus travel if further than 10 miles (road towable with petrol engine 13T) Had it about 3 years and it has been out about 15 times More often than not the jobs are only for a half day and usually dealing with a pile of half rotten willow or poplar!
