  1. Just glanced in prior to re-fuelling and noticed a white sludge in bottom of tank (black plastic tank so easy to notice). Removed the tank and took it to a friends work shop, removed the fuel and it left about a cup full of grains in bottom of tank. Washed it and tasted it- sugar!
  2. If some body was having a pop or trying to disrupt business why not do something more drastic than sugar in fuel tank? They could have quite easily cut hydraulic pipes or drive belts or any number of things....but that would have required a level of thought that these people don't possess
  3. Both tanks have fuel filters so hopefully no grains have got in any where. The sugar has remained in granular form so am guessing it doesn't dissolve particularly well in petrol. Bit of a pain having to clean both the tanks out though!
  4. Just discovered a quantity of sugar in two fuel tanks - one is on the Thor log splitter the other is the HP Eagle bench saw! Any one else ever had this done to them? Has it likely to have caused any long term damage? I am hoping I found it without having run the engines with it in the fuel!
  5. What sort of quantities are you looking for and where abouts in Cheshire are you? Dave
  6. thanks for the replies, will give them a call
  7. How much do you pay for cubic metre vented bags, where from and what is minimum order? I have to move yards soon and was thinking about splitting a load of rings straight in to vented bags so they can be moved with tele-handler and left to one side til next Autumn Cheers Dave
  8. A friend of mine has asked if I know any one who can do stump grinding. So I said I'd put a request on here! His mother-in-law has about 5 stumps to "get rid of" and would like a quote for grinding them down - think they are about 12" across just above ground level. Any one interested please PM me Job is in Nantwich, Cheshire Thank you Dave
  9. Thor self powered towable vertical 3' splitter, 13T from firewood processors Hakki Pilke, logsplitters, sawmills, woodchippers
  10. Be careful as the oak is likely to stain what ever it stands on
  11. just been quoted £55/T +VAT delivered, some of it 20"+ diameter and a lot of Horse Chestnut in it
  12. has any body seen a copy of this Living Woods Magazine - Complete Guide to Woodfuel interested to hear what you all think of it?
  13. any body looking at buying a business would be more interested in your accounts and books first with assets a close second you would need to show how much work needs to be put in for the level of turnover and profits you make
  14. these type of blocks are often used by green wood workers and bodgers when using a side axe for trimming down pieces of wood, with three legs they can be put on uneven ground and still be quite stable. They are usually quite tall as well so work is done at a better height fo rthe old back!
  15. 48x48x87 barrow bags are 0.2 cubic metres. 3 of these will fill a standard builders bulk bag (80x80x80). All my logs are delivered in barrow bags and sometimes get tipped out in to a bulk bag in customers garage. 3 barrow bags just "over-fills" a bulk bag. We sell a BB of hardwood for £22 and softwood for £20 - minimum order 4 bags. Smaller orders are £25/bag. Have sold 270 bags since August
  16. Use the search button at the top and type in "log store" and search for it in post titles, it will give you plenty to look at
  17. take a look at this thread, some pics on it http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/firewood-forum/32656-log-store-supplliers.html
  18. Currently trying to convert some of my customers over to pine. Have 3 people now quite happy to pay £20 for a barrow bag of dry seasoned pine logs. This equates to £100 per cubic metre
  19. Interesting, we just charge more for smaller orders. We can deliver 2 barrow bags each to 3 different customers in one trip and charge £25 for each one. Total is £150 for 1.2 cubic metres!
  20. I have many customers that only want small loads due to lack of space - in the same way as they get small deliveries of coal every few weeks. Some people have 4 barrow bags every 4 or 5 weeks, some have one barrow bag every 2-3 weeks. Just charge accordingly, delivering to several people in same area on certain fixed days. I also have customers that will order 3-4 cube in one go. People only wanting one or two barrow bags are quite happy to pay up to £30/bag (bags are approx 0.2 cube each)
  21. NFU should, they insure a certaim amount of mine
  22. 40cm x 60cm net of 9" dry seasoned hardwood logs, 8-10 logs per net depending on size, retail mine at £4.50 each or 5 nets for £20. Although I have seen them at other outlets for anything up to £7.99 I find kindling goes out just as quick as logs, same size net with 7" softwood kindling for same price.
  23. Ozric Tentacles !!!!!!!!!!!
  24. Work out the volume in cubic metres and sell it for £100 per cubic metre. Looks like 3 cube to me in total = £300
  25. At 8m long and average diameter of 0.9m, volume is 5 cubic metres Density about 0.65T/cube = 3.3T
