  1. Thanks Stephen, thanks for input am very new to mog approach to things so am very open to input from guys who know the business. Can you follow up on a few points. 1. Why £1000 plus per day 2. The idea is not to operate within my specific area but can see the temptation. 3. The idea of buying mog is that I have two solid days a week operating on my own business, but can use it more at less than optimum efficiency. 4. One man within 30 miles and is not a competitor and to my knowledge does not hire mog out. 5. I have personally had no experience with this machinery but my father is very competent in driving mogs but not wning mogs and for first year I will almost be his apprentice in this. 6. For personal works I have access to tractor and trailers but for hire side there is no contingencies for work over 50 miles from my base. 7. I have a full time agricultal engineer at disposal who will travel to wherever I am working, has extensive knowledge of older jogs but not newest models. Appreciate anymore information you may offer.

  3. Im currently running a business plan into getting a mog, actual model to be decided further down the line. A part of this plan is to offer it out for hire, again a bit sketchy but plan to hire it out with chipper, chip taken away, timber trailer with grab and operator (again can take wood away or deliver to site) with basic tickets and rescue. I am thinking about £400 per day plus £1 per mile traveling. I will be aiming to attract customers unable to take on larger jobs due to resources and will provide mog un sign written and theoretically to most of uk but want to base it locally if possible. Can anyone let me know if this is A of interest and B financially acceptable. Cheers

  5. I would like to extend a huge thankyou to Mark at SKYLAND for excellent service. Last week after moaning all day about lack of silky's visibility in leylandi and the need for a finer tooth saw I decided to scroll Silkyfox's website and discovered they infact make a saw which meets my requirements. After finding a few unknown suppliers I decided to drop Mark a pm (on Sunday night). Being something he didn't stock he was quick with a price on Monday, took time to specially put it on web site for me and dispatch as soon as he could. It arrived well packaged today and included some husky sweets. Thanks again Mark for excellent service will be using you again. For anyone interested the saw is Gomtaro Pro Sentei.
  6. Hi Paul, hitch climber will get better in time, you may find that you are mistrusting of the system (which I was at the start), which may be causing most your problems. I personally found distel good at start as feels lot like prussik. But when you move on to VT and remember to check dressing then you'll never go back.
  7. It seemed liked a generic post from some site advertising their wares. If not tell me more, am interested in family histories.
  8. Sorry cant recommend courses but can recommending reading 'sports turf & amenity grassland management' and 'the lawn expert' gives a lot of information and education.
  9. Well done for winning, think of the new shiny kit.
  10. Check sherrill website they show some nice designs.
  11. Personal preference is to use larch, I tends to last better.
  12. My equipment list, sharp pick mattock (forget boarer), square, level, small level, hammer, nails, iron bar, sharp shovel, small shovel, 4x2 batton, screws, battery drill, wheel barrow, lump hammer, plum line and pencil, ballest, cement, water, handsaw, if making yourself then lots of larch. Tried, tested & proven. Any questions feel free to ask. Samarb
  13. I was waiting or this to pop up. It seems to be that some time everything that can go against you, will. Other times it all seems to slot into place and your home by lunchtime. Other week macrocarpa ran over two days, today finish a weeks fencing just in time to see the rain come in. It seems to average it's self out over the year, just enjoy it for now.
  14. Thanks, I'll get it eventually. Ask me one on trees and Tony can lend me the book, in six weeks I'll have a definitive answer.
  15. I think, over the profit making scheme it will have to be a deposit based scheme but then you run into paperwork issues with tax and credibility to hold customers money with fsa. I personally think this is a great idea, it opens people up to new books and helps those who are starting out gain better understanding of different subjects. Like so many things in life, soon as you add money to situation there are always trouble, yes you may get some bad apples that have no intention of returning books but you will get this if a £50 book only costs them a fiver. I personally think that maybe some people will genuinely forget to return and maybe have to be reminded but some will have other agendas, if this is the case the leaning they get from a cheap book may not be worth the risk of black listing on such sites as arb talk uktc and etc which overall the leaning will be much greater. I hope this issue doesn't put you of the such good work your doing for every one and dont change a thing as simple is always better and apologise for lack of grammar as weren't to good at school.
  16. I have a client that has a Macrocarpa stump which is a diameter of 5 foot and height of 6 foot. They want it carved and have ideas of a bench and table but are open to other ideas, the stump is in Dunster, West Somerset and have been asked to find some names and portfolio of works for them to personally contact. If anyone is interested in this can you send me an email to [email protected] or pm me on here. Thanks
  17. Hi, I'm after a decent one handed or 1 third splitting axe prefably with a loop on end so can carry on harness, any ideas or suppliers are greatly appreciated. Sam
  18. Got 1.9, hdi will get you cheaper tax, mine does between 60-100 miles pg and will tow with ease up to a ton can't reccomend them enough, only thing don't lean on body work as you will leave an outline.
  19. Maybe it's a case of not having any work done to it but suffering the work case of wind throw I have ever seen.
  20. Btw have had most fun working on euc and all the dead I have worked on is fine if not a little brittle.
  21. I personally think that you are competing with your boss, never bite the hand that feeds you. If one of my guys went toting for work whilst on my pay roll it would mean end of job but please correct me if I have wrong end of stick, cheers Sam
  22. 5 mins a night and reckon there's another 4 years left in them so time well spent instead of money wasted. I sharpen my saws every night as well don't think that is time wasted.
