  1. Ahh i see you were meaning where silvanus are based , yeah they are based in both grampound and launceston mate . the offices are in launceston .
  2. have a look on pro climber for an assisted fell kit , this system is used for assisted felling when working in proximity to powerlines , it is verry effective , quick to set up and simple to use - should cost you roughly £260 ish . if you cant find anythin pm me and i can post some pics of the system we use . hope this is of use to you
  3. yes you can make money from it but you need to have plenty of experience on a saw and be able to work at industry pace , there are guys that have been doing this for years and robably one man coud do what three of you do a day because he has the experience and knows just how to make his life easyer in most situations . Im not saying that you dont know what your doing at all , just that you need to keep at it and things will get quicker as you gain experience. just a thought but is that the cheapest you can get the timber forwarded for ? i know its not alot of money but still its money your not getting
  4. what you on about tommer ?
  5. try giving jas p wilson a call , im pretty sure he has a couple valtra valmet's for sale at the moment
  6. :thumbup:good man !!! i look forward to the finnished product
  7. come on then whos gonna be the first to fit a set to an ms200 lmao
  8. i think this year is going to be tougher than the last , last year the recession was still being played down to some extent , the goverment were trying to get more people spending to "boost" the economy and all in all i can see people haveing a real eye opener this year . however it poses a time to Re think your buisnes module and see how and where you can tweek it . The bigest importance is keeping you head up think productivley and do not settle for second best . im sure there are many guys here that saw their way through the thatcher years and lets be honest it was far far worse than this recession . Any way i wish you all a prosperous and enjoyable working new year .
  9. we had a similar problem with out 288xp , it turned out that one of the spade conectors on a wire going to the coil had broken - roughly 16 pence and 20 mins in out workshop and it was fixed !
  10. without trying to sound rude or make light of what has been said , i think that at the grand old age of 21 i was still making mistakes and i think if we all loked back most of us could remember doing something silly that could - hurt, offend, put someone down , infact i would expect that some of us can think of a more recent occasion too ! . yes i agree that a public forum is possibly not the best of places to comment on a work situation or a work mate. but we do all live and learn , well most of us , im sure matt will not make the same error of judgment again . but if he does then im pretty sure he will end up learning the hard way
  11. totally agree Jon , it was only meant as tomething to take into consideration , bri has been uing his without changing it but it would be something that could do with being bigger , but totally agree that for the price your paying then its nowt that cant be fixed for a couple quid and a welding rod or two .
  12. again i agree huck , i know a couple guys who have bought timber from a certain timber merchant - one paid for timber by the ton the other by the cube - the chap buying by the ton got a load of wet timber that was covered in mud and crap , the other guy buying by the cube got a load of "Hardwood" that the majority of it was either that small you could chip it with a bosh garden shredder or if it was of decent size it was half rotten ! both guys paid the same price and both guys could ended up with a load of timber that ended up costing more to proces thus making it pointles . so yes either way you buy timber is pretty much gamble in some ways , personally i think if i was to be buying timber i would want to go and see what i was buying before hand .
  13. Dangerous Brian has one of these splitters , it has split near on 400 tons of timber over the last two years and is still going strong , the only problem is the size of the bed , if you are splitting large rings it can be a pita but other than that its faultles .
  14. i agree totally with what your saying huck , but the big problem with buying by the ton is that a load of wet oak , pine , is going to weigh far more than a load of larch , ash ir sycamore that has been harvested and left at road side for a while. however i guess that the other problem is that buying by volume as oppased to weight your going to be more likely to bet smaller diamiter timber to make up the load .
  15. i use and ART positioner and swear by it , i have only been using it few weeks and previously was using a distel and micro pulley , i found that it got in the way some times and not as accurate as i can be with the positioner , some may knock modern mechanicle devices but untill you use them and see just how much of an improvment they can make i would not knock them .
  16. as already stated Kernow training are as good as it gets - here is the number for them - 07774951739 the lady you will be speaking to is Nicky Carlyon . good luck old chap
  17. i would not pay any more than £50 for them , the gaffs look like they have seen a bit of use , to replace the pads you will be looking to spend at least £60 - so all in all after getting some new pads, sharpening the gaffs and time waisted in doing this then your not far of having waited enough money to but a new set of ally bashlins !! , personally unless you need them for a job on tuesday then i would contact ebay and raise i dispute . Oh and happy new year bud !!!
  18. hmmm looks like a nice saw , i wonder how similar in price this will be to the ms200 !!
  19. haha , i dont blame you .
  20. ha ha , na not planning anything mate but in the middle of reviewing our RA's etc . as for the lorry its no probs . hows tricks with you ?
  21. cool cheers Rupe , that solved that for me
  22. was thinking today whilst climbing using my ART rope guide what the guidelines are for rescuing a casualty from the tree on one system that is funning from a rope guide . does anyone have any info on this regarding the use of ny kind of friction saver or rope guide for rescue . Thanks in advance guys
  23. now you have clarified the position i would be even more keen to buy the chipper my self if i was you , alto your going halves on the chipper its already clear that he will get 70% use of the chipper but only have to pay for half of the machine!!!! why not buy the machine your self and save all the grief , lets be honest you will only get 30% usage of the machine for your self !!
  24. Personally i would not bother - if you need a new trailed chipper then buy one on your own terms , As you have said things are working well at the moment so why complicate the situation by going into a partnership ? im pretty sure that if it was me that was working with you i would be hapy to hire you in with your chipper just the same as you would still hire me in to do the climbing work . i really would not spoil wat is currently a good working relationship
  25. hiya , your pup is a good looking lad . Thought i might share a pic of my two (Bramble and Bracken) out playing in the garden with my other half.
