  1. fair play, he should learn how to drive before trying that again.
  2. My mate is a painter, he gets £50 a day, and he'srecently had a raise! But they do typically work 9 till about 4 with more tea breaks than can be productive...from my arb tainted point of view anyway:001_tt2:
  3. Seems, like your agreeing with my proposition in one paragraph and disagreeing in the other, which is it? Granted some saws would need more attention than others...My 200 needs a sprocket and new threads in the pull start side of case ( a strap fixed that) and a piston wouldn't hurt. Piston Kit fit STIHL 020, 020 T, MS 200 T (40mm) Kolben | eBay UK pistons are cheap by the looks of thnigs, however mine looked fine when i took it apart 6 months ago. Genuine Stihl 020T & MS200T Chain Sprocket 6 Tooth 050 | eBay UK Stihl MS200,MS200T Sprocket base cover set | eBay UK less than £100 on parts there, doesn't need much more, a bit of jif on the plastics maybe a fresh pull cord and I think most would be happy, i don't care about the broken chain brake handle:001_tt2:
  4. After a bit of a think I think i've come over a bit harshly in this thread and misrepresented my position. I have one trusted guy who i have known for most of my years, he's not very qualified but i'd happily leave him alone on site doing any job on the ground without worrying. ifhe grounds for me i want for nothing, everythings ready ahead of time and he's where he needs to be, any little accidents are dealt with swiftly and made good, we can communicate most thing without speaking etc etc. I pay him as much as i can within reason and worth every penny, and if anyone has the pleasure of similar services day to day they should too!

Old school cool, nice work! I can imagine the guy in your avatar saying that:laugh1:
  6. LOL its a bit of a drive but i'm busy tomoorow could have fille dinf or a princley sum:001_tt2:
  7. makes me think after recommending a light reduction on an ash that had the whole sub-terrainian portion of a main buttress ripped off by groundworkers...Maybe i'll pollard it. ...That said i'm a great believer in tree's generally not falling down, i've seen some savagely decayed tree's stay up through storms and all sorts and ones that seem completely fine tear out big time.
  8. Well, its ordered, hopefully it'll get the job done!
  9. Wouldn't mind a go, someone else being in control is a bit of a scary thought though!
  10. Yeah I pay groundies £60 a day...Like almost every other company out there, and i expect to make alot more from a day than them or all the extra hassle of running things would be for nothing. do you split everyting down the middle with your groundy?
  11. So lets say yuour running a business with a truck, chipper, various saws, climbing gear, lowering gear,PPE,fuel, insurance and so on to pay along with the above...How are are you meant to pay an employed groundy £100 a day and stay in business...and live a decent quality of life...Whch is why we set up in business, to earn more than you do at Tesco's and buy nice things. Its hard times and everyones taken a hit with their earnings, just th way it is imo.
  12. This is why there ae various benefits and schems to help low earners, surely?
  13. Have you seen how heavy they are?
  14. not a great deal as i can do it all myself, but if it was cheap enough to make me not bother....Maybe an exchange program, we give you a knackered 200t and £200 inr eturn for refurb new piston and pot brake etc, could that work?

    Fuel can

Looks like the stihl is winning, or possibly oregon with stihl no spills. Jonsie, whats your best price on Stihl with no spills both ends inc, vat. and Oregon with same set up. Also do you have the stein GTX boots in size 12 ?

    Fuel can

All saws are Stihl bar a 154 non runner project, so thats not too much of a conern. the stihl i sa pricey combination at about £55 with anti spill both ends, i'm just wondering if its worth the difference. anyone tried the budget husky copes that ar eon ebay then?
  17. if someone coudl turn out good re cons for a substnatially lower price i'd buy em

    Fuel can

About time i got one of these posh combi cans, i've ha da go on the stihl and the husky...I like the stihl, mainly because its stihl, and no spill is available for the oil and fuel. which is better, are there any quality issues with either? also has nayone tried the £20 ones off ebay that look exactly the same as the jusky fuel can? I noticed Oregon do a simple, no frills can, does anyone know if the stihl no spill bits work with that thread, would be a nice cheap comination.... ..What do you say then?
  19. No one uses a second high anchor for a branch walk unless its a doddle to set up on your way to the branch and will make things MUCH easier, or it would be absolutely nuts/not doable without a second high anchor, or the tree is just huge and it makes sense to spwitch between a pair to move fast...So its good that your learning not to reply on 2 as 99% of the time it's just a waste of time.
  20. old vermeer 620i and 625i, I just got one, quite a few guys on here have used them as first chippers on a low budget and i've read no real complaints, also now i own one i see that there realy isn't anything on them to go wrong, and what can is an easy fix with simple tools. They runa single roller, some are ptrol some are diesel. my petrol uses a reasonable amount of fuel, its cheap enough to run and chips at a reasonable pace. they can be had for £1500 upwards.
  21. I don't expect an employee to work as hard as me, they're earning alot less. Just expect an honest days work. as the last few posts say though the factors involved are almost infinite, if you have someone you can trust to do everything right never take the piss and be left alone and can fix the truck, chipper and any saw with zip ties and tape alone. As well as dealing with the customer effectivley and so on then they're worth upwards of £60, if the current pricing trends allow, otherwise no.
  22. I take it thats made of ally sheet, looks awesome! What thickness is it and what did you pay for an x4 if you don't mind me asking, Also How does it take logs against it? Are you going to paint it? 'm currently looking into making ally sides for my truck from plain ally sheet or chequer plate and havn't seen any done like this until now, seems like a good material for it.
  23. I've not been so lucky....Yet:001_cool: unless you count my blatant disregard for uni work in favour of tree surgery, leading to me needing to complete 4 1500 word assingments and a scale model of a 2 storey house by Thursday
  24. Employed, no more than £60 you can get good qualified subby groundies for that. I think they're worth more but at the moment for most of my jobs its not viable to pay any more than that.
  25. Slighty realistic- what i have now but tipping and a big legal payload... Otherwise, a mog like Huck's, awesome bit of kit, that.
