  1. No but did see plenty of Juniper. And just to keep the thread on track - sort of - caught a distant view of a Golden Eagle
  2. Not Britain at all so a bit of a cheat: these are the local 'crows' in the High Atlas in Morocco - they're choughs. Way nicer than crows and they sound brilliant; very talkative amongst themselves and quiet about it too
  3. Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (especially the Guinness version); Bridge of Spies; another vote for Apocalypse Now; Pale Rider; Outlaw Josie Wales
  4. In the south? Like hen's teeth since my source near Dartford went bust
  5. Do you mean rebar sheets? Yes, I did it once and it worked really well. Remember that access to the logs isn't easy unless you want them all in one go; then you just untie one end or side and let them collapse in a heap. I went the awkward route and made a removeable end so the cage became walk-in. That needed a lot of cross ties to allow for an end being removed without the whole thing collapsing
  6. Won't load properly unfortunately ☹️ I've tried twice and while it shows 'uploaded' the preview pane remains black. We have an old water barrel hand pump standing on the ground as an ornament; Blue Tits are nesting in it using the slot for the piston as entry and exit.
  7. What is it with Tits and hand pumps?! Last year Great Tits were at it (see page 83 of this thread), now it's Blue Tits PXL_20220525_143850794.mp4
  8. A guy on The Repair Shop has just straightened a decades old hammer handle with an hour's steaming in a box via a wallpaper stripper

  15. My daughter uses Strava a lot for her ultra marathon training as well as hiking: if it wasn't good she'd be the first to bin it being of the savvy tech generation
  16. Also known Stateside as Rainbow Poplar due to the occasional rainbow array of colours of the timber in a mature specimen Rainbow Poplar | Woodworking plans, Woodworking, Wood WWW.PINTEREST.CO.UK Nov 9, 2019 - This Pin was discovered by Gail Valleau. 20. I think the insect shortage is the bigger issue. Every other house around here has a Sussex barn for parking the Chelsea tractors so there's no shortage of nesting opportunity; very few swallows though. Interference with migration routes will be a major player also I'd guess
  21. I've seen half a dozen over Jevington, near Eastbourne, and the same again half a mile from here. That's about it. Hopefully there will be more but numbers seem to be decreasing yearly
  22. Sorry, they arrived in Wick last week!
  23. Very striking. It looks just someone's dirty arm
  24. To put it another way imagine the tree in the future twice its current size (and likely more): that's what will happen if you leave it. A stitch in time saves nine 🙂
  25. £3k a day isn't huge pay in the circles in which he moves. A family member (by marriage) was charging £5k a day in the 80s
