  1. Not my experience at all Egger. Police don't even suggest the charges - CPS do that so it's certainly not the case of the latter simply going along with what the former want. Any cosiness between the two is PR: the CPS are seen as a pain in the butt largely. 'Throwing charges around in the hope of catching folk' hardly applied when it came to prosecuting Asian groomers did it!

  4. Short-term is a problem I agree. And those who most need to insulate their properties are undoubtedly those least able to do so, either because they're in rented or they simply can't afford it. There are some who could simply put on more clothes and move around a bit!
  5. Surely not - that's more fossil fuel. The less of that we use the better

  7. Needing to do everything BIG in the US a class action has just been taken out against John Deere over just this matter, the gist of the argument being that the current lack of one is an abuse of the virtual monopoly that JD have in the States

  11. Morning Alec; hope you're well. It is awkward but by no means a unique situation. In your shoes I think I'd determine what I could myself re the probate position but you may have done that already. Given the value of the watch - it's not a vintage Swatch is it! - I don't think anyone would have a problem with you putting the matter in the hands of solicitors but you'd need to keep an eye on them too of course! Nothing new there but another vote for the solicitor avenue which does afford you the benefit of being seen to be doing things with full propriety Jon
  12. My vote is for beech but I'm only worth half a vote 🙂
  13. To redeem myself a bit; it looks like Rob above is out of 10" bars too
  14. A 2511 might struggle a bit with a 10 foot bar; try a ported 880! Sorry; crawling back under my rock now
  15. Without defending one little bit Putin, a horrible little psycopath with serious Little Man's Disease, Russia has always been paranoid about expansion across Europe; the North European Plain extends from Moscow to Ostend and gives all Russian leaders sleepless nights. The paranoia results from being invaded twice via the Plain when both invaders all but reached the gates of Moscow. In Putin's shoes I would feel uncomfortable about the US presence in Germany, Ukraine etc. Also, and I don't know if this is relevant, the independence of Ukraine cost Russia its free bread basket; Ukraine grew most of Russia's wheat, now Russia has to buy it
  16. 1984... 'challenging texts...' FFS; they'll be warning the tender little darlings about Family Guy next
  17. Can't help with any issue I'm afraid. When I click on the link it transfers to the bottom left of my screen and downloads: I either wait for it to download and select 'open' from the menu or immediately select 'open when done' Jon (Mr Nepia 😂)
  18. That's more likely isn't it; nicked then not wanted so killed and dumped assuming it wasn't done by a lazy owner wanting rid of cull animals Cheers
  19. So well behaved enough not to bury them and keep shtum but bad enough to tip them. Still odd!
  20. True but flytipping? Is there any chance they're escaped and then roadkill perhaps? Not disbelieving you but it is odd
  21. If you think that twice that pile will see you through a winter you need to think again I'm afraid! Very, very rough estimate - a decent evening's burning can easily see off a wheelbarrow of logs. But well done for going to softwood: I've burnt nothing else for 15 years or more and never had a problem. If you can grab Leyland Cypress it's lovely stuff to burn when properly dried but it's not the only one, it's just easily available I hope. Loads of good advice in previous posts; pay heed to it and you'll enjoy yourself. Good luck!
  22. At the time of my writing I wasn't aware of the - ahem - discrepancy in Djokovic's visa application. If an honest application would have resulted in refusal to enter Australia then I have to recant my earlier position: Oz needs to allow in contestants if it wants to host the tournament but not to the extent of allowing false visa applications. I did say there are many angles to this story and everyone seems to have a different one!
  23. And the population seem so happy to be prisoners. Weird
  24. There are so many angles to this story. It's a bit surprising so many Aussies seem to have rolled over to their government's policies and support the stance against Djokovic. Then again it's election year isn't it. Then again Djokovic himself has proved not beyond reproach with his award giving whilst allegedly isolating: he's not the most popular player on the circuit in the first place. But overall yes, a political decision supported, perhaps a bit worryingly, by the courts. My own view is that if, as a country, you want to host a major international tournament you need to let the contestants into the country. If you want to exclude the contestants you can't host the tournament. The Oz government seem to be wanting to have their cake and eat it. My view but like I say there are many views
  25. @openspaceman Sorry, no idea. I don't even know what town/city the guy's alluding to. I know he has knowledge of Croydon (= tramland) but then his anecdotes seem to cover all corners of England
