  1. A pot and a half of tea and two scones, jam and cream - JAM FIRST OF COURSE 😋
  2. Taken on Friday. The season's first swallows for me were a bit out of shot, honest 😊

    Jokes???

  4. Another vote for the Magnolia bud/branch but I thought 'don't make a fool of yourself again' so I kept shtum! There are many Magnolias so I can't say the stem isn't one. What other leaves were in the litter?

    OK, who is it..?

No problem there; he's fully insured
  6. A doubt of mine also. We moved into this house a year ago. It's 100 years old and timber framed. The floors of the under eave storage spaces all have insulation but you can see daylight under the edges of the roof. Isn't that the way it should be for such a house? The need to insulate is great of course but sometimes the need to ventilate is also great - I think.
  7. The state of that dining table says otherwise 😂
  8. Wot u mean 'only' conifer? Wash your marf aat 😄

    Jokes???

Cycling seems to be a dangerous pastime in Northumberland Heath. I got by in London with cycling jackets - never needed body armour
  10. Yeah, best of luck. Out of interest what do you do with tractors? Maintain them or contract drive them?
  11. You mean your calves ache. Stretch them, along with as much else as you can be bothered with. Any tightness in the legs can give knee and hip problems so it's good to keep the whole lot in trim. A good combined calf muscle/achilles tendon stretch is to raise your foot against a skirting board while facing the wall. For more stretch push your hips forward rather than lean forward. Another possible cause of your issue could be your choice of footwear; worth a look and perhaps try something different; see if it helps in which case there's your answer. You're only a bit over 8 years ahead of me so I do speak from the position of someone whose own body has seen better days - oh yes! Certainly don't give up - that's for girls 😂
  12. Not that bloody old - I'm the same!
  13. Doesn't mean the wood's soft, just that your chain is sharp. Even sharper than it always was that is 😋
  14. Awful. I feel for you 😄
  15. Usually! But there are many exceptions; compare willow to a mature yew for example. But that will have been fairly hard, yes. Luvverly firewood
  16. Many years ago on here a guy put up a pic of him holding his thumb in his opposite hand that he'd beheaded that morning 😬
  17. What a work site 👍
  18. Thor thought of that! At least some models - I had a Mignon - have a foot pedal that brings the blade down until it touches something, e.g. a hand; then it stops. To effect splitting you need both hands on the handle. In practice you use the pedal to get the blade to hold the log in place before using both hands to effect splitting but I found it painfully slow
  19. Bossy little buggers but intriguing; could watch them for hours
  20. Fair comment and I wouldn't employ someone to use my machine the way it is. It doesn't have auto return. If it had that I'd probably go the whole 'they're my hands, mind your own business' hog and rig up a foot pedal. At least I could have both hands on the log. Oh I wish...
  21. It's a bit eye level but I haven't poked one out yet 🙄
  22. And you haven't even altered the wobbly operating lever on the splitter. I know why it's like that but I couldn't change mine fast enough; doesn't it do your head in?!
  23. One major reason that more reuse - as opposed to recycling - doesn't happen is that it often doesn't make economic or ergonomic sense to move 'stuff' from the man whose rubbish it is to the man whose gold it could become; cheaper in all respects for the gold digger to buy new
