  1. My missus has just seen that; thank God it was already sold! She says that in Surrey that would fetch £150 but it would need the right marketing, i.e. shop sold in a display. Same applies to other areas of course. Jon
  2. I'll def have that thanks. Saturday morning OK again?
  3. Is that robinia at the bottom right of the last pic Kev? If it's as good as it looks from here I'll see you right for that. I saw it first, I saw it first! Jon
  4. Sadly true and I won't argue with the logic.
  5. I doubt it's that simple Beau, unfortunately! Holly cracks easily and gains its green hue almost as it comes off the tree. I've got some hefty lumps if you want to play sometime; I don't mind waking up the sheep on your drive! Jon
  6. If you're reticent about showing too gory pics how about showing pics and films of saws vs PPE? 'If it does this to 5 layers of ballistic nylon think what it'll do to the only pair of legs you're going to get' sort of thing.
  7. Seems a shame though I'm in no position to criticise, having put much of a 16"dbh tree on the firewood pile recently as I couldn't home it either. Isn't holly used by furniture makers? Unless they import big stuff from the States I'd have thought yours was big enough to be of interest.
  8. Spycatcher - again. Proof that truth is stranger than fiction.
  9. I was told the other day that these engines are supposed to go back to Stihl for valve resetting at ~1 year old. Can anyone confirm/deny? It certainly seems that such word is not widely known.
  10. As far as Caithness is concerned much of the locally grown timber is contract-bound for biomass. My mate in Wick bought a lorryload of softwood that had to come from down the road at Helmsdale.
  11. Peter, if shifting the timber becomes an issue I'm told Helmdon will take almost anything tree trunk-sized. But you'd probably thought of that before starting the thread!
  12. Depends on the stickers; they don't have to look tacky. Their main purpose is to raise awareness in those ignorant of the product; that's what needs doing surely.
  13. Sure does, even small stuff if you look carefully. Apologies Peter - not trying to get in your way; good luck with it.
  14. Aspen for a clean, mean, working machine.
  15. Aspen for a cleaner tool.
  16. I think Step 1 then is a phone call to the LA to ask them. You never know they may say 'leave it to us' and deal with it. Actually I'd say the chances of that are quite high given that something's already dropped off the tree, i.e. the risk is more than perceived, it's actual.
  17. Perhaps I've missed the point here but if bits are dropping off the tree and damaging cars there is plainly a risk to people. If there is evidence that all reasonable efforts have been made to trace an owner without success then go ahead and make the tree safe. Who's going to complain about removing a risk to life and limb? Let's put it in reverse: leave the tree because an owner can't be found. A lump drops off and injures someone badly. It would transpire that enquiry had been made to find an owner but having failed everybody did nothing. Great. 'Preventing risk to life' is a very valuable escape card. Jon
  18. I've never seen a group of youngsters shaken more than by the bone galleries at Verdun; piles of bones on full view, many broken. Yes, visits to such places would give them a sharp history lesson.
  19. You're welcome. Cheers for the wasps Dave loves 'em; he said so!
  20. Here's the next model up Dean! Expand the pic with the little arrow bottom dead centre. http://library.semo.edu:2008/cdm/singleitem/collection/LRDD/id/458/rec/1

    Worcester Boiler

    All that for £250? Bargain.
  22. Looking very nice John and ain't that board flat; well done.
  23. Ha ha - the memory of an elephant there Alec. I did look at that but it had numerous deep indentations that would have meant turning a colander, not a bowl. The owner's an interesting guy though and will probably be a teastop again next year - yep, I was so good at lambing I've been asked back! Are you in need of any small plum to finish the boudoir? I have a few chunks, i.e. there's thickness but no length. Jon
  24. I think it was a brill idea, even if only to do it the once 'because we can'. A big consideration for BTS though would be insurance cover. I'd be up for it re the final leg of the journey but I only have 3rd party cover on anything trailed. Could it be possible though for the owner to arrange a one off premium giving him the cover he needs at a cost that still made the endeavour worthwhile? But in principle...
  25. That's for sure. Found 33 Large Elephant Hawk 'pillars when I was a kid on a patch of willowherb due destruction. Reared them in a cage and ended up releasing 16 moths.
